im so grateful to have had the childhood that i had. they were the final years of wonder, pure enjoyment and imagination. when i have children they will watch these cartoons and will know nothing of ED, EDD AND EDDIE.
OMG Nostalgia! Watching this reminded me of my childhood! I almost remember all the theme songs! I can't believe some of this stuff was in children's programming back in the day. You wont find segments about acupuncture and surgery in children's programming today.
what a fuckin blast from the past. i just watched the chip n dale rescue ranger episode of the fizz of cooka cola cult and it hit me.....david the freakin gnome! i used to love this show. that song broke me down man what a fuckin classic. this has to be hands down the best cartoons ever made. if i still smoked weed i'd be blowin to this
Man that is a breath of fresh air!!! Haven't seen that in 15 years. I never realized how influential that program was to me. I could swear I'v turned into david himself!!!!!!
Weird how programs physiologically stay with you...... It really should be put back on the air do.... Lets start a petition!! Slitz vitz
*sniffles* I'm so glad to know i'm not the only weird-o that gets teary eyed seeing this. That dancing bunnies in the intro really got my waterworks going, lol
Aside from the fact that David's wife acts ashamed of her weight, this appears to be an excellent show to set forth positivity and education for the youth.
I totally agree with you BobbieJane. I remember waking up in the morning, my mom having made pancakes for my sister and I. We would sit and watch these cartoons. I even had the old troll dollies, Mine had orange hair. lol These cartoons do make me want to cry. Does anyone know where I can purchase these on dvd? I would greatly appreciate any help. ^_^
here is a site for all the old school nickelodeon cartoons. if you think watching this one is crazy, go see if you remember any other ones. now i know how my parents feel when they talk about old school stuff. lol.
does anybody remember the cartoon with the talking koala bears from another planet/demension/world and they visted a little red headed girl, and these 2 dudes (one big one skinny) were always trying to get ahold of the koalas??? what was that show???
yes i do cause the koala would always show up outside her window and they would go on adventures or something. Wow. I miss 80's cartoons. Now Im curious too.
What was that show with one man thats going bald who always played acoustic guitar, with two older woman and a guy in an elephant suit...they always sang somethin like....Skinnamarinki Dinki Dink...Skinamarinki..Do... I love you!!!....WTF was it called?
@minigini613 : Yeah, this show, plus "Belle and Sebastian" (or was that "Sebastian and Belle"?) were two of the greatest kids' shows EVER. I think those were the only two where I actually saw the ENTIRE series from beginning to end (yeah, both those shows actually had a final episode!)
This was from the 80s? I had no idea. I was born in 1990 and I remember watching this as a little kid. Very few memories, though. Not even enough to remember the name of this. I'm so glad someone mentioned it.

Love It- Chock Full of Awesome Rhetoric......but it's backwards Logic-Glorifying Nature and the Country Side will just make people wanna live there, and destroy it even faster. I imagine a David the Gnome in the City, so we keep packing the populations in there...............
@DrinkOfTheCloud you inspired me to realize this show, like captain planet actually had an environmental altruistic agenda to it. That makes it even that much more endearing. I loved David the Gnome when I was a kid, and I can see some things about me have never changed.
"Nisser" - which are elves (or gnomes) are old figures which existed long before the birth of Christ.
The "Fjøsnisse" is very short and often bearded and lives in a barn or a stable. The "Fjøsnisse" often plays tricks on people. I loved this series as a kid! They should put more shows like this back on. They really do need to start showing other old cartoon shows besides crap like Scooby Doo.
This is the best! Pretty animation, respect for animals and the planet, lots of humorous touches, and a vocabulary that isn't dumbed down for kids. Can't parents revolt against screamy Dora n' Boots and that new assinine quartet that sings "Go Bananas" every ten minutes? Nickelodeon Jr. should remember its original quality programming. I love the kingdom of the gnome!
When I was growing up, I thought the same it taught you to care about nature and how to treat people. And i was there everyday after school on Nickolodeon watching and growing.
Why can't there be wholesome shows like this that teach kids to care about the environment and nature? Most kids shows now are nothing but garbage. This show taught me to care about others and that animals deserve respect. I also learned to respect nature. If I had children I wouldn't let them watch other shows, they'd be watching good upbuilding stuff like this show.
Agreed. What happened to the days when a show could be like this? If you look now and analyze the show as a whole, you'll see it's really very Buddhist-themed. Of course, teaching kids how to live and find happiness in the world around them won't help in the SATs right? And of course, now everything is huge marketing today (ironically I say that and I was a huge fan of Star Wars and Batman- the most commercialized stuff out there!)
OMG I used to love this show when it was first on! This brings back memories of when things were so much simpler in my life... I miss these old shows, most of the cartoons today are just... stupid as hell...
