  • WE REALLY NEED TO GET A REAL THROWBACK RADIO STATION. WHY IS THE LATIN RASCALS NOT ON A RADIO STATION MIXING? ARE YOU GUYS STREAMING ON THE INTERNET.... WE ARE LOSING OUR GREAT DJ'S & RADIO HOSTS... TODAY'S MUSIC IS DOWN THE TOILET... I'M NOT GOING TO MENTION "HIP HOP MUSIC"...... WHAT'S REALLY GOIN' ON ?

  • @albertcabreraful 1983 1984 & 1985 Are probably my 3 favorite years of music from the 80's.

The Latin Rascals had a knack for selecting the best songs of the day, and then made them sound better in their mixes.

  • thanks to heads like yourself who keep the Rascals alive ,thanks a million !!!

  • @albertcabreraful <-- I'm glad to see Albert Cabrera is activly contributing replys to all the posts.

I'm sure he never realized thet thier mixes would become so highly coveted,

and the fact that they are as rare as platinum.

I'm in the process of trying to assemble all the KISS FM mixes that I can account for.

Does anyone know exactly HOW MANY TIMES they appeared on KISS FM?

It's like trying to put a jigsaw puzzle together with all the pieces upside down.

  • Ten after four is the time .............time for Paco's Super Mix.................twentyfive minutes of uninturrupeted dance music for you to enjoy.

The Latin Rascals ..............if you know what I'm talk'n about, about, abouuut..........

  • Oh, hell yes! Bringing back the real KTU!!! :-D

  • Latin Rascals baby!

  • MAN I REMEMBER DIS EXACT MIX TAPE >>BACK IN DA 80'S!! 156 TH ST. & CORTLAND AVE. IN DA BRONX!! BY ALFRED SMITH H.S!!! HOLY SHIT!!!!

  • Albert have you ever digitized these old mixes. Are they still around or have been lost? I know you were a wizard with the old reel to reel. I tried myself back in the day and was VERY unsuccessful.

  • @kuma1720 Because we had deadlines to submit masters,we never had a chance to make copies, also we didn't think that fans would be talking about us 20 years layer.

Thanks to youtube I get to hear the magic!best Albert

  • Its always great to hear the great mixes of the 80's! That was when music was listenable, no cussing and degrading women or races....great stuff keep it up!

  • Georgie chk this out! talk about take me back..... dammmmmmmmnnn

  • This was one of my brother Leo's Favorites.....

  • awesome post! dont say sorry when you post such a treat like this! got more?

  • WOW!!! THAT WAS FUNNNNNNNNNNNN

  • These were the days!!!!!!!!!!

    This is talent, great work.

    GCJ

  • OMG.. This is my fourth post today after learning that Tony and Albert's mixes were online... The Latin Rascal name was born on KTU after Paco introduced them with the statement " the Latin Rascals if you know what I'm talking about..." before one of the mixes came on and the name just stuck after. To hear it now when it was so cutting edge at the time. I'm so glad that all the efforts they put in back in the day is still paying off today with fans still looking for more.

  • ;) now you see, they have also a name here in Germany..... no better, I think these mixes are known worldwide. Back in the days, these mixes are aired here in Berlin few days later after aired on KTU.

Also two years later, they aired one more time in a special KTU/KISS-Show here on a local radiostation, after a announce by the Fans at the station.

  • really? is that how they got there name? nice story. i think they were the biggest influential dj's ever! hip hop or r&b hasn't been the same since! wish they were back!

  • @theraylix Right, before Paco called us The Latin Rascals,he called us the young Rascals and before that, the Young Latin Lovers,we had respect for Paco to not say anything but when he said Latin Rascals that was it,Thank you for the kind words, this is Albert Cabrera of Latin Rascals.

  • Hey Bassmentbomber, I remember the Diamond 2 Crew Show, The Awesome 2 , Hanl love, etc...that mixed at night from WNWK Newark! I had a small collection of about 100 + tapes of the mixes heard on New York stations of the times. I lost them all to Hurricane Andrew when I moved from Hoboken New Jersey to the pits here in Miami Florida.

  • Man, that hurts.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who remembers those mixes from the DIAMOND ll SHOW WITH CHARLIE DEE DIAZ.

I AM an unmotivated lazy, EASILY distractable, procrastinating music enthusiast & DJ.

But one of the days, I'm gonna upload some of the amazing stuff I've compiled over the years.

    One of these days....

  • god i love this stuff!!- fuck the sound quality-thats what makes this stuff great -passion not polish!! Take me back to the 80s again,my bags are packed!!

  • TAKE ME WITH UUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lets go babe!

  • @bluesfunk77 Hello, thanks for those amazing words, this Albert Cabrera from the Latin Rascals,I appreciate your words "passion not polish!

  • @albertcabreraful al when you get this message pat yourself on your back n tell tony to do the same you guys were the one's that change the world with remixing.... i use to dj in the 80's in the bx i know all about u guys...met alot of freestyle singers except u guys but yah still the greatest dj's still to me then came little louie vega...keep in contact.. god bless....

  • @bluesfunk77 iam comming with ya brother!!!!! i cant of say it enough!!!

  • hey anybody remember a station medger evers college in NY , where you would send your mix tape and they would play it? it was a half hour show @ 4:00 pm and the station was 91.5 or somethinhg like that.

  • Yep. The Ken Jackson Show on 91.5. Wow you took it back

  • In a point to prove what inspiration does, the inpact of The Latin Rascals can best be proven with a vibrant history coming from myself, Omar Santana and Carlos Berrios. Omar & Carlos are the only other two living people who could edit tape better then Tony & Albert. The three of us spent our teen years learning the trade and it was because of The Latin Rascals mixes. Sitting for entire weekends trying to emulate what we heard. By 1990 we all had found success on our own merits. TLR - THANKS!

  • MR FRANKIE BONES...SEE IF YOU CAN TRACK DOWN ONE OF THE MOST OVER LOOKED EDITORS 'CHARLIE "D" DIAZ" OMAR'S PARTNER IN CRIME ON THE DIAMOND 2 SHOW WNWK 106 FM in Newark NJ. I LOST A TAPE THAT CONTAINED A 22 MINUTE MEGAMIX THAT HE DID THAT WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE. ANYONE OUT THERE WHO REMEMBER THAT SHYT HIT ME BACK...

  • wasnt the hank love n charlie d show....aka the dna show????

  • yah, used to listen back @83-92

  • u were writin with ss at the time...no

  • Comment removed

  • I have to add Chep Nunez R.I.P. as one of the best at edits!!!

  • @DonDeeBoogie Thank you for the kind words, this is Albert Cabrera of Latin Rascals.

    I miss Chep Nunez

  • @albertcabreraful Al I couldn't wait to pick up a track with u or Chep doing a remix and hearing the edits..LOVED IT!! Made me go buy an Akai Reel to Reel and splice the hell out of everything, just watching a tape full of white made me smile lol!

  • @DonDeeBoogie I miss Chep,we used to work in the same studio with 2 rooms,he would be in one room editing,I'll be in the other, the funny thing is that we both were snooping on each other to see what we were doing, yes watching all the white is a work of art,Albert

  • Jose the animal diaz came years before the latin rascals came on the scene. back when paco had the battle of the disco djs .The animal was good but so was Jellybean. the kid from brazil .The dynamic dual. When the latin rascals came on they were the best and none of these great djs could even tried to battle them.

  • Charlie Chase (Boricua)

  • i remember it well the animal won

  • this is my rip...use to sell at apollojams...

    Johnnie Freeze

  • I remember when the Animal used to spin at the Underground on West 17th & Broadway.. he was SEVERE!! Those were the days, back in the 80's.. the ORIGINAL KTU. Paco, Rosco, Al Bandero, Joe Causi, Diane Prior.. The list goes on.......

  • Yup, I was there. Since no one answered my question as to what happened to him. I searched DJ Animal and found he lives in New Mexico Now. Seems like he's mostly spining and remixing the newer Rap type stuff. wish I still had his Planet patrol& IOU remixes from back then.

  • original 92 ktu was great. don't forget to include charlie allen in that list of ktu personalities.

different topic...if anyone has a sweeper of Hot 103.5 " from top of the world trade center" please post that.

  • I'll say this about Jose "animal" diaz, he had the illist mix of planet rock on 92ktu. that was the first time i ever heard " the jive" soundtrack. where i lived in CT, we could only pick up 98.7 so we listened to the kiss mastermix of planet rock to death. which was dope. but animal's version was very very good.

  • As much as i like DJ Animal, he was not on the same level of the Latin Rascals. matter of fact, no one was was. Just a side note...LR did all the editing and mixing on " breaker's revenge" and Arthur Baker got all the credit.

  • yep

  • Jose "Animal" Diaz has a shining moment though...It came on the 12" of "Clear" by Cybotron. He mixed the 12" single. Juan Atkins clearly states he made "Clear" without hearing "Planet Rock". When you listen to the original "Clear" on the LP, it's obvious that "Animal" gave it the "Planet Rock" treatment. Without that it would have never had an impact.

  • Any idea what happened to him, is he still with us?

    Thanks

  • And just think..Tony Moran and Albert Cabrera were about 16 or 17 yrs old when they did these WKTU and KISS FM mastermixes. and probably 18 or 19 when they kicked off the whole freestyle era.

  • ayeah, are you sure they were really that young- that would make 50 years ahead of their time

  • @mysterymediacorp: Yes, the "Rascals" were very young when they got their start... 16 or 17 would be right on target.

  • @DiscMogul Close,we had graduated,we were like 19 maybe, you made me think,Thank you for the kind words, this is Albert Cabrera of Latin Rascals.

  • That is 100% true when you said this is a mix show lol this are the best fuking master mega mix in the hole fucking yotube. Great Job A+ This are the original mixes.

  • The Latin Rascals are by far the pioneers of mixing/editting. I have a few of their mastermixes which are simply masterpieces.

  • Bori you got some copys me tienen bomitando aqui, I need some of this to complete my personal colection.

  • LOVE THIS, reminds me of my clubbing days in NYC where the city never sleeps...I was one of them...LOL, always clubbing here & there. thanks 4 posting miller!!!

  • The impact of the Latin Rascals was instrumental in many upcoming DJ's of that era. I know as a 16 year old hearing this mix, I made a pact with myself that I would dedicate my life to electronic music. And I never looked back to be honest. I'm 41 now.

  • Hey Frankie Bones. Are you the same Frankie Bones that did the "bonesbrakes" "mental mayhem" " and the break goes on" and Dj at Metro 700 in long island?

  • A couple of clicks to my youtube home page and maybe a Google search of images would have answered that question for you. I'm just saying though...If I was not me and told you I was...you would still believe me, right? Yeah, though, Metro House on Saturday, Dome on Monday Nights both in Franklin Square.

  • I used to rush home from school to catch Paco's Supermix @ i think 4:00 weekdays. Who remembers the differen't Dj's who had mixes played there? Latin Rascals, Aldo Marin, Jose "The Animal" Diaz, The Dynamic Duo are some that come to mind.

  • I remember another dj crew similiar to the latin rascals called The Crazy Cousins

  • I've been trying to find anything from Jose"the animal" Diaz anywhere on the net(NO Luck) I thought he was the best. I'm pretty sure he won that KTU DJ Battle they had.

  • fuddcar, no disrespect to you or anyone else, but talent wise there is a huge gap between the Latin Rascals & Jose, both in the studio and mixing live.

  • Umm, maybe so. I love the Rascals, alway's have. Have most of their mixes saved on my youtube page.

But it's been over 20 Years since I've heard something from The Animal and was wondering what happenend to him There's only one mention of him on all of Google. I remember he was in the Ktu Battle of the Dj's and I think I remember him winning, not sure who he was up against. I think some of the mixes are a little too quick i would love to hear a little more of each song from sometimes.

  • Seriously... please post more... these bring back so many memories. Paco's Panties, anyone?

  • I remeber Paco SuperMix on KTU! The Latin rascals were truley great MixMasters. thanx for the memories Miller.
