Escaflowne is one of the anime series that drew my attention to new anime in the 90's. I then watched Record of Lodoss War after getting the english dubbed tapes of Escaflowne! Even though the Fox presentation was edited and dummed down some from the uncut version it was still superior to the usual kiddie junk on U.S. tv! It is too bad that the smarter anime series often take a back seat to commercial Pokemon, Yugi-Oh merchandise shows! I went from watching Escaflowne to watching Miyazaki!

The ending ALWAYS gets me...it's so romantically awesome that I cry EVERY time! I loved this anime because the plot was SO good. Everyone always says that the main character is ugly--so what? Since when do anime characters have to be pretty? In my opinion she is VERY pretty, both inside and out. But anyway, in the end, this is one of my favorite animes every, and I highly respect the maker for being so realistic. The ending is sad but also happy because their love transcends dimensions and time.

I think this is also one of the things that makes this story so special...plus, hitomi isn't a brainwashed booby stupid girl with tons of fanservicing. She's fleshed out, realistic and wery strong. I am really happy that the anime ended up being just like it is.
