Plants (And their enzymes) Work at optimum levels in which they have evolved and adapted, increasing the CO2 so drastically in such a short time will not have an large effect on O2 production, they are studying this. Most plants just mitigate it, just like they don't release more O2 under more sunlight.

The uncertainty in data for H2O greenhouse effect is large, between 50% and 90%. But the fact is that there is so much water vapor that all the EM wave length's (Heat) that could be absorbed by H2O IS absorbed by H2O.

There is a time lapse film on youtube of the northern pole which shows the pole shrinking in the summer and expanding in the winter (as is the norm) over many years. it does not show it getting smaller year on year. the shape changes but the mass stays relatively the same....

Turns out that burning dirty coal (That produces acid rain) releases Sulfides which has an extremely high albedo, temporarily weakening the greenhouse effect by reflecting sunlight. But this chemical only stays in the atmosphere for about two weeks, before acid rain is formed, making the effect useless and dangerous.

If you look at all the EVIDENCE and mountains of PROOF, you will see that we ARE in fact - for the next 100 or 200 years or so - going to get not only warming, but have more acidic oceans, more extreme weather events (both droughts and floods - but not in the same place at the same time, of course), and largely due to man. But elevated levels of CO2 does NOT mean elevated O2 levels. Plants (And their enzymes) Work at optimum levels in which they have evolved and adapted, increasing the CO2 so drastically in such a short time will not have an large effect on O2 production, they are studying this. Most plants just mitigate it, just like they don't release more O2 under more sunlight.

The uncertainty in data for H2O greenhouse effect is large, between 50% and 90%. But the fact is that there is so much water vapor that all the EM wave length's (Heat) that could be absorbed by H2O IS absorbed by H2O.
CO2 on the other hand, absorbs a different spectrum of EM waves that should leave earth, making it dangerous.

There is a time lapse film on youtube of the northern pole which shows the pole shrinking in the summer and expanding in the winter (as is the norm) over many years. it does not show it getting smaller year on year. the shape changes but the mass stays relatively the same....

O. And in the 60's / 70's there was a period of cooling, but stopped after the clean air bill was passed in Europe. One explanation. Turns out that burning dirty coal (That produces acid rain) releases Sulfides which has an extremely high albedo, temporarily weakening the greenhouse effect by reflecting sunlight. But this chemical only stays in the atmosphere for about two weeks, before acid rain is formed, making the effect useless and dangerous.
At this moment china is burning dirty coal...

I am not sure if 350 is a realistic target. Perhaps more realistic is something like 400 or 420. Why? Because people still need jobs, and we still need economic growth. So I guess the ocean's gonna have to get larger and we'll have to develop more shady porches and mangrove areas.

Using numbers from the US DOE, China alone will be emitting ~25Gt CO2 by yr 2050, in a 'bus. as usual' scenario, or ~19Gt in an 'extreme austerity' scenario. This ignores The other 2 economies which will have passed the US in CO2 emissions by then. Compare that with ENTIRE WORLD CO2 emissions of a mere 8Gt for the yr 2005 from CDIAC. Given the reality of the above numbers, which are NOT disputed, what kind of fool could possibly believe that it's possible to trim CO2 emissions by ANY amount?

Plants, and our own primate ancestors evolved when the levels of atmospheric CO2 were about 1000 ppm, a level that we will probably not reach by burning fossil fuels, and far above our current level of about 380 ppm.Now, no matter how much CO2 we pump into the atmosphere each year, the biosphere takes out an average of 50 percent of that extra amount. Even after we triple the amount of CO2 we produce, nature still takes out 50 percent of the extra amount.

@captainwess There have been recent studies on whether or not global warming has effected hurricanes. It effects over half of them with the increased temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Katrina would not have been nearly as bad. Well I got to go, today is 10/10/10 and I'm gonna try to save our planet.

Over the past ten years there has been no global warming, and in fact a slight cooling. CO2 is not a pollutant and it is not a poison and we should not corrupt the English language by depriving ‘pollutant’ and ‘poison’ of their original meaning. Our exhaled breath contains about 4% CO2. That is 40,000 parts per million, or about 100 times the current atmospheric concentration. CO2 is absolutely essential for life on earth. (continued)

@captainwess We only get these two combination of things very few times in Earth's history, which causes the ice ages. We currently should have drops in temperatures, but instead we are increasing. This weekend in Minnesota we have had record high temperatures, and it is fall. NASA did a study on the world’s hottest years for the past 100 years, and we have found that 2005 tied with 1998 for the hottest year on record which is now being challenged by 2010.

No, the current warming period began about 1800 at the end of the little ice age, long before there was an appreciable increase of CO2. There have been similar and even larger warmings several times in the 10,000 years since the end of the last ice age. @captainwess Which means when the sun is in a circular orbit the Earth may receive (relatively) the same amount of radiation all orbit around. When the world has an elliptical orbit we get a greater change in radiation over the course of the orbit. Now currently, the world is at the low peak in the Solar Cycle, and we are getting farther away on from the sun because our orbit is becoming more elliptical.

Almost never has CO2 levels been as low as it has been in the Holocene (geologic epoch) – 280 (parts per million - ppm) – that’s unheard of. Most of the time [CO2 levels] have been at least 1000 (ppm) and it’s been quite higher than that.the increase of CO2 is not a cause for alarm and will be good for mankind.At least 90% of greenhouse warming is due to water vapor and clouds.....(continued)

@captainwess The world has actually been warming, you can tell one way by the sun and our orbit. The Sun goes in a Solar Cycle, which means every 10.7 years the world has more or less solar radiation coming to Earth. Right now in the cycle we are decreasing in the solar radiation coming to Earth. We don't always have a elliptical orbit, but it changes and becomes almost circular every few 1,000 years.

@captainwess - CO2 is well buffered in our natural system, the majority which is absorbed into the oceans. On the surface your arguments sound convincing, and factually I agree with much of what you have said, however, you conveniently ignore that these warming and cooling events occurred on a geologic time scale, where the drivers were not anthropogenic in origin. Also, was the 1000ppm CO2 world one that humans thrived in? Do you mind paying to relocate my coastal cities?

@Georgerocker - I see that your knowledge of climate science has not progressed beyond the 2nd grade. OK, here is a simple 2nd grade question for you. If the O2/CO2 cycle is so linked - why would atmospheric [CO2] ever change at all? Also, given your vast scientific knowledge, how does a change in CO2 affect pH levels in the oceans? Please turn off Fox news, pick up a science book (hopefully a high school text or higher) and read.

350 ppm isn't low enough of a goal. For 10,000 years its been around 280. The last time it was over 300 was 130,000 years ago, before that, 320,000 years ago. The last time it was where it is now at 380 plus was 14 million years ago and the oceans were 75-100 feet deeper. Source: NOAA Read both sides. Look up the facts. Watch lectures. Dig deep and it's easy to see the overwhelming truth. Besides, isn't pollution just wrong.
