@luzifugum actually I hope that Cameron (or any other) make no movie based on the GUNNM/B.A. Alita Series. This just would turn a nice niche community into a trendy one and everything you'll find online will be merchandising crap and wannabe fans. See what happened to "The lord of the rings", before and after the year 2001, when the first part of the trilogy was released. No, i'm not trolling, I'm an avid reader of this Manga and a humble fan of Yukito Kishiro.
o quien sabe no? quizas pueda darse el caso que yugo reviva, me parece seria un buen guion imaginense: Ido en ese pueblo lejano encuentra por error los restos de yugo y...solo espero que la peli valga la pena.
Figure Four may be a cool character, but I don't think anybody could take Hugo's place... But sure characters that live in Managomy (however you spell it) eventually move on and find someone new, otherwise some people get bored with the plot....But not me, Zatoichi, & Kenshiro are good examples
I agree. As for me i'm just happy that they've acknowledged it so far as to even make a movie, possibly a trilogy. This is such a good series but it seems to get overlooked a lot on the bookshelves.
I barely got into the series, but I am just curious, are the later volumes Battle Angel Alita: Last Order just as good, or can I exclude the second half of the series?
By the way its great to see so many fans of this, none of my friends know of this, but I am sure to recommend it to them.
If you could notify me on that fact of whether or not to get into the second set, I would really appreciate it.
Absolutely they are, I highly recomend the Last Order series. Basically it's a continuation of the original if the last chapter and epilogue of the final book were removed. The original had a quick, makeshift ending due to illness/deadlines and Last Order is the author picking up where he left off, taking the story forward as he wanted to originally. You can go without it but you'll be missing out a whole lot. Don't worry it manages to keep the same overall 'spirit' the original had, just deeper

No. It's not just an OVA! There are (as of Oct 2008) 2 published series. The first one was published between 1990 and 1995, 9 bands (the last 100 pages of band 9 are not recognized to be the official version).
The second part was started in year 2000 and is still in work: In December 2008 is coming a new release of "battle angel alita: last order, part 10".
More infos in wikipedia. just search for "alita" there :)
The manga, particularly because they limited Zapan's role and cut Makaku's back story though this is still very good and in a couple of parts an improvement on the manga.
I love this movie/OVA... It's exciting but it's also so emotional and so pretty. All 3 versions of the voiceovers I've heard were great too (Japanese, original British Manga UK English dub, American ADV English dub). I can't believe so much brilliance could be in a movie which is under an hour/two OVA episodes under half an hour.
What're you talking about? Cameron makes amazing movies and recieves awards. It's naturally going to be an epic masterpiece which more than does it justice.
Well, I was talking about Kurosawa Akira, legendary and unfortunately deceased japanese film director. Ever seen one of his films? I promise you will very much enjoy them. I adore Terminator I/II, but I'm concerned when I think of true Lies and Titanic. This is just my opinion. (I failed to express it in a witty way before)
The Anime adaptation of Akira was terrible, the manga however was excellent. As to which is better, between Battle Angel Gunnm and Akira... thats a toughy, but since I haven't read ALL of the manga for Gunnm (and none of the anime), I personally will have to hold my vote... not that my opinion matters, or that anyone gives a damn what I think.
I wouldn't say it was "terrible". It's one of the most popular Japanese animated films ever, so it can't be terrible.
As for Alita, since it only ever had two episodes (or one hour long episode if you're in Europe) telling only the first two volumes of the comic, and never finished, it can't really be called a better adaptation when Akira told the whole story (even if it had to miss some stuff out) and made sense.
Well... the reason I couldn't stand the anime for Akira was because they butchered the story almost as much as Fullmetal Alchemist did with it's anime. They completely redid the whole ending, and cut out a bunch of characters, such as Akira (he was in the manga). And the terrible English dubs (I dislike both) didn't help my opinion much either.
I agree. Akira has great moments imo, but following its run through the years I got the feeling, that Otomo couldn't handle the different arcs anymore. The american scientist f.e. made me scratch my head more than once. GUNNM I see among the ten or see best comics ever! Among classics like Krazy Kat, Little Nemo, Tintin, The Hermetic Garage or stuff Kirby did together with Lee back then in the sixties ... just my ten pence ...
I'm sure he'll make an amazing movie out of it. It'd be hard to go wrong with this source material. Naturally there'll be some people who don't like it, though, there always are.

When Cameron does his Alita movie what would you think of Sophia Boutella (Nike Girl) for the motion capturing?
