Yesterday on 30 towards Arifjan right at KPC....3 vehicle Wreck...1. SUV middle of road-from driver side to back seat left SMASHED everything FLAT to tire level(firefighters just put out fire) 2. Dodge RAM-minor rear wheel turned 90 degree 3. Bus ahead right shoulder on its side. Witness-early morning(little traffic) SUV flying on emergency lane zig zagged hit bus destroyed. Main way these accidents happen is car moving very fast and driver tries to turn the car suddenly boom!!

Also, when you say "work" you mean entirely stop an accident. If you hit a kid who ran onto the road at 5-10 km/h instead of 40, you'd be grateful. And as to the general safety comment, there is a lot more to volvos than "City Safety" and no car without a roll cage could maintain structural integrity at the speed this car crashed.

The safety systems in your car will do as much as they can to help, but you must do your part by driving safely and defensively. Don't put your vehicle in a situation where you exceed its limits to protect you.

Guys, look at the line break; it's obviously too clean of a break. Quite possibly, the only logical thing that makes sense is that either a complete front half, or a complete front clip (ending at the engine firewall.) was rewelded back to the other half. If the rocker panels that go from the inside front wheel base to the inside rear wheel base on each side had not been cut, this probably wounldn't have happened.

I THINK I know this car, the scene looks VERY familiar. It this was one of only 5 Volvo S60 T5 Sport models that came into Kuwait. Fantastic car. The car was wrecked opposite the Scientific Center. The driver died two days after the accident, he was young and his father's only son. The tyre marks stretched for more than 80 meters. The wreck was later pulled behind the white corrugated wall you see in the background. Speed killed. I was closely associated with the Volvo in Kuwait.

It's a volvo. A Volvo doesn't have to be going 200km/h to look like that. A telephone poll, tree, etc. would turn a car like that at one third the speed especially if the vehicle hits the stationary object in areas that aren't as reinforced such as the side just behind the firewall, etc.

What went wrong in the crash between the Volvo and the T3 is that the T3 got launched on the Volvo and didn't even hit the crumple zone; it just hit the A pillar directly...

Not exactly, it crumpled the entire driver's side front end, the T3's bumper sits higher than the Volvo's bumper thus the Volvo doesn't stand a chance. The same thing would happen if the T3 was head-on with a vehicle that sat higher such as a full-size truck. I'm not saying larger is always better but under head-on situations the larger vehicle almost always wins. I'd say the Volvo here hit a stationary object such as a tree or poll, which early all vehicles will split in half at 40mph plus.
