Brilliant; I love Chic Corea with Gambale and Patitucci, Gambale is one of my all time favourites but I love Jimmy Earles rawness and driving basslines. I also love Mike Miller too; he's one of the most musically aware guitarists out there, and his Tyler strat tones are amazing (I have all his solo albums too).
I don't think one line up is better than the other. I'd say, just enjoy some of the best musicians this planest has ever created. Full stop!
Chick Corea, Eric Marienthal and a completely new band? It is classic now, but at the time fans just didn't buy it without Weckl, Patitucci and Gambale.
@robertnobody Yep. He just shoulda called it something else and it woulda been fine. Corea and Marienthal alone just do not Elektric make. You could have Elektric with one guy replaced but not 3!
i agree. back then, i attended a concert in my city and i was like "oh well, it sure is great to see all these superb musicians on stage together, but i'd rather have the "real" electric band". now, in hindsight, "paint the world" ranks as one of my top "electric band"-albums ever. it's just different, and sometimes, people need time to adjust to the fact.

This line up didn't go over so well in 1993/1994.
