@DarthFanta 9Gs, 50deg aoa, how can you say it can't turn?
Plus 360 deg engagement capability with the DAS/helmet. Equally effective day and night.
Moreover the F-135 has been tested at 20% more thrust than the specs. It is likely that in the near future the F-135 will have a wartime setting with 10% more thrust, giving the F-35A/C a decent supercruise speed.
@DarthFanta I know that is only part of the picture but to me i wouldn't have even bothered building this without vectored thrust and i'd prefer 2 engines. I think with vectored thrust they could have made the plane bigger for more range without giving up being nimble. Sad they couldn't do better than this its like they didn't really try.
@pilotboy8532 Well, not according to the guy who designed the F-16. The guys were complaining about how the wings are too small etc, and that it would probably be a jack of all trades and master of none.
What I really want to know is what the pilots flying the Russian fighters think of this plane. Pit the F-35s againts the Su-30s MiG29s in an actual dogfight, weapons hot.
@GeneralRushHour They don't run the F22's because there's no demand for an air superiority role in Afghanistan, and the F35 is still undergoing testing and isn't deployed anywhere.
@GeneralRushHour The F35 is not deployed, so that can't be in use in Libya. There's no need for an air superiority fighter in the middle east right now. The F15 can take pretty much any threat they pose.
@eyeAMtwinkEE I KNOW.... But Europe has placed orders on alot of them and it´s a shit-plane that can´t do anything great just everything ok and borderline shit.
F22´s is not used in Libya or Afghanistan due to the fragileness of it.
@GeneralRushHour It's not used because there is no worthy middle-easter adversary. Why use a $155 million F22 when a much cheaper alternative (F15,16,18) exists, and can beat anything Libya or Afghanistan have.
@GeneralRushHour no planes except for dedicated ground attack planes like the A-10 have any kid of ballistics protection, an F-22 or F-35 would fare just as well against small arms fire as an F-15 or F-16. also read my previous comment in regards to the F-35 being a "shit" plane...because it isnt by any stretch of the imagination.
Europe has not placed any orders at all. Europe is still THINKING about the JSF. The thing is not even flying, all they have confirmed are a couple of test planes, nothing else. All we know so far is that the total number of possible planes keeps going down and the last idea was that 3 nations would order an X amount of planes and share them !!! This to be able to afford them due to the spiraling cost.
In the end the thing will get axed, simply unaffordable.
I love it! Everybody keeps hating the F-35 because it's not an F-22. Even some professionals hate it too. That's cool. You will all be silenced when the F-35 goes to war and has massive success. People once complained about the F-16 because it wasn't an F-15 as well. Now no one compares the two planes and they are legends. I see this happening all over again with the F-22/F-35 combo. I see it as a good trend.
You ever actually going to get these past the test phase. FFS Lockheed Martin, get your shit in order. All the issues: Oxygen system, valve issues, hydraulics... you guys would of been fired after in the private sector. You are worthless company sucking up our tax payers money.
@TheProjektcc Thats the point. F-35 is more than likely going to be used as an A2G combat platform. How many of the countries that are our enemies have 5th Gen fighter capabilities? F-22 is more than likely going to still be used for A2A combat.
In the best case you get what you ordered with 10 year delay and 3 times the cost. If you start redifining requirements, stretching financing, reduce numbers etc. you get unfunctional trainwrecks like the Eurofighter. With literally dozens of test aircraft and Uncle Sam paying the bills, the F-35 will finally do what it was supposed to do: precision airstrikes and returning home safely, while keeping lots of defence jobs in the US, and most of the allies dependant on the US.
The F-35 is a product of future design requirements! You cant plan for todays needs but 20-30 years out. While the Eurofighter, Rafale, and MIG-35 have their place, they are hopelessly out of date compared to the F-35. The F-35 is not made for air superiority it's a bomb truck with a substantialy superior air-to-air capability over any and all 4th gen fighter platforms. Dont underestimate the F-35. When it's ready, it will be spectacular!...
The roll rate looks kinda sluggish, I don't think this plane is made to do some hardcore dogfighting. I hope I'm wrong but the eurofighters, griffen and the mig 35 could easily outperform the pricey F-35.
@Bomyster3000 The planes you mention are airshow planes. When it comes to real combat. They are inferior due to the sensors they have. The f35 will pick the time and the place of the fight and the enemy wont even know what hit them. The planes you mention can only do this kind of maneuvering with very little fuel and no weapons loaded. There is to much drag. The f35 has no drag penalty and can perform as pilots say it, as a clean F16 and F18.
sensors, sensors, sensors we get it! It has great sensors, all new planes have excellent sensors but can it maneuver?? That is something a fighter jet is supposed to be able to do.
This thing may be in big trouble if it gets into combat with other fighter jets.
@TheProjektcc this plane incorporates the best sensors on earth.there is no other plane out their(besides the F-22)that can engage the F-35before the F-35engages it(the EODAS system is BY FAR the best in the world),its not like in video games, missiles can pull up to35G turns(a human cant survive even 15Gs and planes only pull 10Gs),maneuverability WONT save you.i would much rather be in a stealthy plane with the best sensors, missiles and targeting computers, rather than a plane that can maneuver.
You have no clue what you are talking about. Do yourself a favor do some real research on air combat and stop believing the press hype generated by lockheed that this planes technology is so good it won't need to manuever. That is a silly notion said by aircraft engineers for every plane they have released in the last 50 years. And time and time again they have been proven wrong in air to air combat. All planes no matter how stealthy should be able to manueiver.
@TheProjektcc just look up EODAS here on youtube.and what?do you think this plane just takes off and flies in a straight line?no.this plane can still maneuver,it may not be the most maneuverable plane but it can still maneuvers very well.(combine that with its advanced avionics and you have one of the most deadly aircraft in the world).and you seem to have over looked the fact that in modern air combat, countermeasures are more important than maneuverability, because missiles are more maneuverable
Even if the EODAS was run using a super nintendo, they would tell you it was the most deadly in the world. The mission and concept that led to the creation of this plane was for cheaper 5th generation ground attack plane designed to deal with late 90s ground threats. This plane is not an air superiority fighter nor was it originally designed to be. But because they project ran over the budget and behind schedule lockheed very dishonestly redignated it a multirole fighter. But this is not true.
