Yo i remember riding past there(not knowing it was closed)to look for parking to do some shopping @ one of my favorite places in the WORLD to be and seeing it closed down....it made my eyes start watering,I had to catch myself!! It truly was an extremely sad day in my life
went there in 92' and bought 'two foam backed embroidered logo slipmats and they looked at me like what do you want two for!? ha ha was funny. would have asked for 3 s I mix 3 decks sometimes but hey, 2's fine. I bought some greats like trax records double album and some originals. love it. And will miss. Thanks.
Man, Manny used to hook me up way way back! Pal Joey was dope in there!! All the imports were in my hand until they got too pricey! Sheesh. But I loved it! Adios Vinyl Mania, Dance Trax, Dub Spot, Rock n Soul and all the ones I forgot to mention. Record shopping was so fun to do!
I got so many records from there starting from the early 80s. I loved that place. Charlie helped with getting me lots of records I had on my list - still have the list, but now its not so many thanks to Charlie. I miss going to the store checking out the records before they were released on radio and being able to play them first in the clubs ! That store was ALWAYS PACKED ! Whether it was spring summer winter or fall !
Tunnel, Vinyl, Twilo, Centrofly, record shopping @ VinylMania..............leaving New York soon...........it will sadly never be the same again..................such sweet memories!!!
OH SHIT!!! VINYL, VINYL, VINYL, Last time I was in here was bck in summer of 1990. I use to order records from here and a short but real cool guy named Jay (mailman) use to mail my records to me via UPS, then years after i would shop at Rock n Soul, a little more uptown, where they have the bootlegs and DJ mastercuts of all the greates breakbeats and classic DJ cuts
@jemiee Yes, the store owner founded the label. The store was small, but they had a back room for storage of all the classics. I would hand the guy a list and he would come out with them all : ) The D.J. at the front would play all the new vinyl that came in and take requests from the customer. Great times!
@hart70 I remember my first time ordering vinyl over the phone from here, and Jay (mail man) shipped to me ALL the records I asked for,,, Al-Naafiysh,,,Boogie Down Bronx,,, See The Light- Feel The Heat,,,, King Of The Beat,,,,and Wikki Wikki Jam On Revenge,,, I interrogated every UPS truck on my street if they had any packages for me, a few days after ordering!! And when they finally delivered the package to my house it felt like years later,, this was about November 1988
I was still in PA at that time. I bought my last 3 records there a year before that. I always hoped that I could make it there one more time and get my vinyl fix. Guess that'll never happen again.
Damn shame.
What sucks is that I got my very first set of vinyls from them and Sattelite Records back in 2000. I was hooked since.
Gonna miss that place as much as I do Twilo and Vinyl...the good ol' days...heh.
OMG, I thought this store was still open! Guess it HAS been awhile..

Those were the days -- Pal Joey, Manny and the crew - picking up those imports. Only a true New Yorker understands ... what a great moment in time!
