Happy BLACK History month to me, I had no idea MR. Buddy Miles was black...I just saw a video wiht him and Jimi Hendrix....I know all the words to this song from the radio but I guess because it was played on the rock stations I assumed he was white...who knew...This is fabulous.
i was in southeast asia in the military when i first heard this, we played this album and band of gypsies the whole time i was there, good and bad times
i may be young, but i knew buddy miles in person before he passed in 08, and i have the honor of being his students student. Easily one of the most under rated blues artist ever.
between Neil and Buddy Version, This was the best version. just so damn funky!! so glad my aunt gave me her record collection 25yrs ago, this was one of the records in the creates she had. i was born in the mid 70s
Right now...this second...nobobody but me know what time it is and this makes me special! Do you feel special? This time was special...my time comming up in san diego! Neil Young version can't do no wrong niether yet this one was the TIME! : )
Buddy was a great musician who constantly changed his band members. Seems he forgot to pay them! Good music. The "Them Changes" album was my favorite for many years. "Classic Rock" was brand new when I first heard them...
@Sk8Chula93 Thank God for good recordings - you can still enjoy it now. I WAS born in this era - and was fortunate to see Buddy in his waning years - still as good as ever though!!
I am not knocking the young at the discovery of good music. Down By The River in the day of the Blue Light Basement Parties was the song you waited for to be played so that you slow dance with the finest girl in the house. We use to call it "grinding" then and some guys would even dip and back bend the girls. It was a beautiful holding her tight at a blue light party with Buddy and Down By the River. A song good at the beginning in the middle and the end..
The SPIRIT of this song and the music of that time will forever live. It was's just one kind of music or even about race. The SPIRIT of the time was felt in all the music and song of that time. I for one, thank the GODS that I was raised by that SPIRIT.
Santant, Rush, Yes, Marvin Gay, Buddy Miles, Hendrix and the list goes on and on. That SPIRIT is alive and well in many of us. Pass it on.
Good soul moving music is more about culture and experience, not exclusively about race. As our wrld becomes smaller, we are going to continue to white cats or non=black cats who can play, write and sing with conviction and super skill. I agree that there will not be another Buddy Miles EVER! But that is the way God designed it to be. Just like I feel the same way about a host of legendary artist, Hendrix, SRV, Clampton, James Brown.......
Oh boy do I remember this song. Smoking BoBo and drinking Boones Farm or Ripple., and Mad Dog 20/20. I know I replaced this LP 3 times. I simply wore it out everytime.
I live in Los Angeles, but in the late 60's we use to drive up to San Francisco for a 4 day weekend- and our first stop was a club in Chinatown called the Rickshaw and on Ladies night there were "fine" women. Those trips were well worth the drive up north.
This recording will always remind me of driving over the Tappan Zee Bridge late at night from JFK back to my house after flying in from Europe in abpit 1970. Hearing this ethereal groove while simultaneously seeing the beautiful lights of the bridge on a foggy New York summer night will always be etched in my mind. This version is much better than Neil Young's original in my opinion. Another great title from this LP is the song Paul Be Allen Omaha Nebraska.
WOOOH!!! SOOOO many Memories!! Me, my Big Brother Rick, MUSIC & Latenight Brownies!! :-) A little Buddy Miles, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Santana, and most definitly Hendrix~

Some music has no time frame. If it came out 20, 30, 40 years ago or tomorrow, it would still be untouchable.
