luigi requires more control than mario because he slides when he lands. however he also jumps higher than mario and has more hang time which is good for levels with large gaps.

mario has more control than luigi but doesn't jump as high. mario however, is smaller so he is affected by ceiling obstacles less than luigi and he also runs faster than luigi does which is important for those "ceiling falling hurry and run through" levels

He wasnt in the old unbeatable classics but he has been in a lot of the really good new ones like Mario & Luigi Bowsers Inside Story that game got rated by different sources between 8.5 and 9.5. Luigi does not take away from how good Mario games are.Luigi's Mansion was not one of the best all time Mario games but it was still pretty good. If you want to say ANY Mario game has EVER sucked, look at the Mario Teaches Tying games.
