The fact that his career was cut so short and he had so many injuries within his career is just tragic. He is not only one of the most talented players in recent memory, but also may be the most exciting player the NHL has ever had. Easily the fastest skater I've ever seen, and it's not even close.
i've seen many greate players play in real live but when you saw Bure explode on skates when you actually see it you understand tjat he was in he's own class
Every time the Canucks make the finals they have a moment 1982 Roger Nielson and the white flag. 1994 Bure in overtime and 2011 burrows finally beats chicago
if this guy was born in Ontario, played OHL and then the Leafs, he would have been crowned the best ever! But because he is Russian, Canadian Hockey fans won't even acknowledge his greatness.
I think Pavel will forever be my favorite hockey player. Best player in the league in my opinion when he played and better then every player in the league now.
If a healthy Bure played in this era, even at his age now he would still score 40-50 goals ala Selanne. But unfortunetly his knee went on several occasions but nobody brought the fans out of their seats like the Russian Rocket.
damn bure is to good he won a caulder trophy and still holds the record for most points in a season by a rookie and he was a rookie with lidstrom n sackic
Any Canuck fan will tell you that Pavel was the greatest player of all time. Yes the Sedins are amazing and Naslund and Trevor Linden also, but once he got the puck in his own end and started dazzling through players like they were standing still it got your heart racing so much because you knew something magical was about to happen. Its just a shame his knees went and had a few problems with Canuck management.
@DustyDinkleman26 that play couldn't be a two line it could be offside but a two line involves your own blueline not your opponents or that'd place you offside. he looked offside when i looked at it, nowadays refs would've called offside but hey still a nice goal whatever call may have been missed
@JeremySwass it wasnt offside if was a 2 line pass...the puck traveled over 2 lines before his teammate touched the puck therefore they missed the call
@predpis92 It's Selanne. You're list is so short it's not even funny, you've missed Stan Mikita, Peter Stastny, Jari Kurri, Borje Salming, Peter Forsberg, Lidstrom, Hasek... not to mention all the Russians from the 70's and 80's who never played in the NHL like Valeri Kharlamov, Vladislav Tretiak or Viacheslav Fetisov who also played for the Devils and is considered one of the best, if not THE BEST defenseman of all time.... Though I'd still take Bobby Orr!
@botter66 My list was built only from attackers. I dont want to argue with you, but everyone knows that Jaromir Jagr is the best European player of all time. Like the Canada has Wayne Gretzky, Europe has BIG J, J. J. or Mighty 68.
I watch this video almost everyday and my daughter is at the ranger game tonight wearing my #9 Bure Ranger Jersey, probably the only one at the Garden with that jersey on. My favorite of all time and to me the best player to lace them up, if he stayed healthy, nobody brought you out of your seat like the Russian Rocket.
Best Russian of all time, but now alex the great has to prove me wrong, nobody was faster with the puck, and made the best defensemen in the league look human. Scott Stevens, Ray Borque, Nick Lidstrom and Brian Leetch just to name a few. But the Great 8 can top this as long as he is fortunate to stay healthy, but Pavel belongs in the Hall of Fame
What made Bure so amazing was that he was able to put 50+ goals on Panthers team during the trap era. This guy knew how to adjust to the game and still put up numbers. Some ppl say he has no heart, but the 94 run said otherwise. Sure he's a selfish player, but his heart was there. When Greg Adams scored the winner, the expression on Bure's face was genuine. Bure gets too much of a bad rep here in Van, but as time passes, it seems ppl are forgiving him and remembering how good he was
@GSBELKA then why didnt other players have such high points. Only one player has even come close to his top seasons and that is Lemieux with 199 points in a season after that there is like a 50 point gap. Gretzky and Lemieux are just the best of the best no questions asked.
i remember back in the day people used to debate jagr vs. bure for being the best player. 10 years later, new penguin, new russian, and hockey is good again :-)
Bure opened the door for russian players like AO and Alex Semin, A little of Bure is in both of those young guns, one day a little of AO and Semin will be left for the next generation of Russian Player. Evolution is a bitch.
I remember seeing the 1st game he played. It was against the Winipeg Jets. He took the puck at his own blueline, skated through every Jet on the ice and went one on one with the goalie. That play he did everything except score
Injuries ruined his career, but Bure was the most exciting player ever to play hockey. He's the reason I got into the sport in the first place. I was a member of his fan club and my parents still have all of my memorabilia boxed away somewhere. I miss him.
@spewintothis thats true about the injuries but neely got into the hall but the problem with bure is he moved around alot and i thought his best years were in florida. i dont think the all time panther greats and the well known hockey lovers of south beach are enough for him to get in. hopefully he does though at times he was unstoppable no matter who was on his line or what team he was on
if bure wasnt injured he would be amazing, he is the fastest skater and the best stick handler, even tho he doesnt have datsyuk moves, his speed and stick control 10 times more then any1 else
Such is life, eh? The team management played more than a few games with him, too.
Still an incredible one-way player in the NHL. I think his most impressive year was his first healthy season with florida, scoring 58 goals in the middle of what was basically the lowest scoring year, all time. He was the goal leader by 14 goals that season which was flat out unbelievable. Next year he got 59, but scoring was up markedly.
Shame for the knee injuries, he lost too many years, or we'd see 700.
Canucks fans are retarded. You people thought you had an all star goalie. haha. go burn down your city. AGAIN.
