The amazing thing of this song is it is based upon her ancestry and her great+ father had written letters and they came across her path to make this incredible song! Powerful indeed........
Thanks for posting this great song. I too am the descendant of a Valley Forge survivor, Christopher Ware Long, who ended up carrying the American flag at the surrender of the British at Yorktown. To me this song is a reminder that these were ordinary folks with ordinary concerns making an extraordinary sacrifice, and it behooves me to use well the freedom that they won for me.
Hey, anybody got a video of Eliza doing "Calling All Angels???" I NEEEEED that song, I can't find it anywhere on YouTube!! That is the song that brought Eliza to my attention. Gimme that song. Especially the not-live studio version.
Why couldn't my dad have played at the Philly Folk Fest in '06? We were there YEARS ago...like '97 and '99. So unfair! I would love like mad to see Eliza. This song makes me tear up every single time I hear it.
I had the pleasure of seeing Eliza perform this song live at The Bugle Boy. I found myself in awe of her ability. I could listen to her for hours. I have heard that she will be coming to LaGrange again and I plan on being there, I couldn't miss it. Wonderfull songwriter and singer. Thanks for the clip.
nicefrog45. Can I amend the above that I posted as I should in fact have said that Eliza'a ancestor, General Jedediah Huntington participated in the American War Of Independence NOT the Civil War. With apologies!
This clip reminds me of when I saw her recently here in Bristol.Eliza is a very articulate and witty performer and also an excellent singer/songwriter. She tells anecdotes about her late father,Terry Gilkyson, who wrote hit songs for Disney. This song tells of an ancestor of hers who rose to the rank of General during the American Civil War. I recommend you go to see Eliza if you can as she puts on an excellent show. I also recommend you buy her album 'Paradise Hotel' which this song is from.
anyone know the chords for this song?

It's hard to really explain how much I love this song. Probably the best lyricist out there right now.
