  • 81,505 people are now inspired during a survival situation

  • capi wiwi

  • Just wondering, given the fact that the water seen at 1:24 was found underground, how likely is one to get a disease from drinking it? It's brown.

  • @ilackofcreativity its brown because of the soil sediment. getting disease from water found in the australian outback is very very unlikely.

  • These are some real og's.

  • 0:53 Oh how cool she can speak Ewok!

  • @unvun oh how cool you can speak out of your arse

  • If I have to see that retarded, "make your own MRI machine" at the end again, I'm gonna kill! Stupidest ad ever! Keep forgetting to close it soon enough.

  • This show, rather than a survival show, is more like a presentation of those native to an area and their abilities. It just turns out that these abilities are what actual survival skills are essentially based on.

  • yeah and it was passed down from generation to generation. these are what you call the pioneers of survival.

  • @ 2:55....look at all those damn bugs in her eyes! GROSS!

  • Um...

You mean with guns that came along with the Industrial Age?

Please learn before you speak about this so called coincidence.

  • ...what brought about OUR industrial age...why us? climate, natural resources, social struggle?? im not convinced

  • I don't think you are stating your thoughts too clearly on this Internet paper. I was referring to your comment of how "caucasions create first world societies around the world where ever they go."

    Guns.

And "first world societies" is laughable. Enslavement for economic opportunities more like it.

  • your right i should have stated "caucasians create first world societies wherever they stay"

  • And...Caucasians is a rather broad term.

Try to look at things in a state sense such as nations. Ex) Great Britain, France, Germany

  • ...you know exactly what im talking about, your just grasping at straws now lol

  • fire arms originated long before the industrial age, perhaps you should learn before you speak.

  • I said "guns that came along with the Industrial Age". Note that I said "came along with".

Please don't try to imply that I said guns didn't exist before hand. Look at the nature of guns and how they changed, especially with the Industrial Age.

Perhaps you shouldn't be so retarded.

  • You idiot, the industrial age has NOTHING to do with the engineering of fire arms. Unless you mean that the first automatic rifle was steam-powered?

lol, your mother probably shouldn't have been drinking as much as she did, before you were born.

  • You do know the Industrial Age includes the 18th centrury right.

Once again, please stop being retarded.

  • Of course, you idot. Can you tell me what the FUCK windmills and railroads have to do with automatic rifles?

  • Automatic rifles? YOU FUCKING MORON

    18th CENTURY 1701 -> 1800

  • That's it, you don't know anything about fire arms. Done talking to you, bitch.

  • LOL

You're so fucking stupid. No wonder you're done talking. AUTOMATIC RIFLES IN THE 18TH CENTURY! LMAO

ROFL, you're a joke. Get on my level.

  • O BTW

Not just the 18th, but automatic rifles in the 19th?

    ROFL, get out son.

  • Oh yeah. Because I know you'll still be reading this because you got some deep seated butt hurt.

Read up on the wars between the Zulu and the British Empire.

Now look at the rifle the British used. The nature of loading a rifle CHANGED.

  • dang I wouldnt mind going out to a survival jorney

  • why does he keep drinking up all their damn water?!

  • @hisboo911 LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To PROVE that he's fearless or "bad-ass" for his viewers...

  • @hisboo911 Mabye gave them like 20 cases of bottled water for them to show them how they find water

  • @hisboo911 he dug the hole so he drinks the water

  • did you really think only white women could be naturally blonde?

  • @ashthegreat wow ur soo late.

dark skin, some have straight fine blond or light brown hair and green or blue eyes. I know a few solom islanders who have beautiful nappy/curly blond hair. These features arent distinctly white...they just dont tell u that in ur history books *shakes head* LOTS to learn my dear.

  • great, absolutely great. this technique could save my or someone elses life someday.

  • there was McDonald's nearby! LOL

  • how many flies are too many flies! A new study may surprise you. More tonight at 10

  • Wow.....so many flies on their faces.....

  • wouldnt you sweat more water off then you get from the root?

  • its only an emergency source. learn how to listen.

  • only if your american.. The american diet is bad

  • Well, I remember a study done (not sure how recently it was done, but I only heard of it recently) into the differences among different ethnicities. Aborigional people's (and morphologicaly similar ones) sweat far less than other ethnicities. They also tend to cope with heat better.

Plus, he didn't grate that much of the root to get a good amount of water; I suppose it depends on the length and breadth (sp?) of the root.

  • Hmmmm Chewy :)

  • i lerend more in these vids than in schol

  • @canadaplease hahah!

yeah dude, school is designed to make you reliant on the supermarket, not to get you free. these are cool aye.

  • learned ;9 yeah but your right....

  • @canadaplease sure you do.... school doesn't teach it >.<

  • @canadaplease Like how to spell?

  • @canadaplease too bad you didnt learn how to spell

  • @canadaplease obviously! you spelt school wrong

  • @zePippin And learned...you miss that too?

  • Sorry Ray but yes you can get water cleaner than that.

  • lol.

  • Dude cunt is spelled with a 'c'

  • Yea I am sure he is aware of that!!

  • nice username lmao

  • that little water dirty water is the line between life and death in the desert... just imagine you are lost in the desert and you don't know this things and no river or lake around and in extreme temperature ,,, for sure you will die from thirst and hanger with food and water under your feet

  • Lol digging for that root, all that hard work for such little water.

  • Yeah but if your in the desert that little bit of water counts for a lot.

  • But I think you would lose more water digging for that root then what it will replace.

Basically what I'm saying is you would probably reserve more water in your body if you didn't dig at all.

  • u wouldnt mind if u wouldnt survive

  • I actually believe you would survive even less if you were to work hard for water. I mean you would most likely die from thirst already digging for that root, and if you weren't dead by the time you got that root, you would end up dying a few hours later anyway because that 1 meter root looked like it only had enough water in it to let you survive another hour.

  • kinda good point

  • You have a point there. They would probably be better served digging for it during the twilight when it would be cooler. They also mention though that the root can also be eaten, so it would be a source of food and water.

  • Fascinating and resourceful, for sure. I wonder how, after working so hard in that heat, that they could get enough water even to replace their perspiration. Here in an Arizona summer of 115 degrees, you work that hard digging up a root and it had better have the gallon you perspired or you'll dehydrate. Amazing that they can make this work.

  • I'm not too sure about this but i would think that form thousands of years of them digging up that root and using different technices of getting water, that there bodies would teach themselves to not perpire as much or not at all while doing hard work in extreme tempratures, its just like there skin, its darker colored because dark colored skin acts like sun tan lotion, so they wouldnt get sun burned like someone else would if they had lighter colored skin

  • Yes i know that but the reason they have dark colored skin is because of a special chemical thats in there skin that they have generated from years of being in that kind of heat, that special chemical acts as a sort of sun-tan lotion so its much harder for some one if darker-colored skin to get sunburned, but still i said in the beinging " Im not too sure about this..."

  • That's not how evolution works. It is not about what is smart for the sub-population, but random acts that prove to keep the individual alive longer. The bodies will not "teach" themselves to have a different DNA structures. Yes, it is possible that the individuals who perspired too profusely could die due to water loss, but all mutations and advantages are random.

That tribe, and many others in the same climate, probably do sweat less. They are still, however, humans. Not a different species.

  • Thats true. they believe one reason white skin developed was to gain Vit D from the sun as alot of the time the skin was covered. There are many reasons, and as human we have DNA that if triggered right can result in many different forms. for example 8 nipples LOL its true

  • and this water is clean! the soil cleans the water from germs and that weed from soil. i wish i could say that for my land...

  • where are they in Austalia i live in newcastle Austalia it look like they are in Alice springs

  • And we complain our volvic water bottle is too expensive ? huh

  • well at least their water is free :P plus volvic water isnt collected the same way, so i still think its expensive...although delicious... (yes, there are huge differences in the taste of minderal water! if u havent noticed, then ur tast buds arent trained...:D im just sayin this, cos some people will complain, that all water taste the same...THEY DONT! :D)

  • doesnt that aboriginal tribe speak any english?

does ray mears know their language?

    such a fascinatingly versatile person

  • There is a translator behind the scenes. Aboriginals living outside of 'society' mostly prefer to live the traditional way. Aboriginal dialects are hard to learn, different tribes speak a wholy different language. Unlike in England where people 10kms apart sound totally different, to Aboriginals, it can be a totally different language altogether. Sadly no-one wants to learn Aboriginal dialects now, there's no reason to, their dialects are dying now, which is sad, as their dialect is so musical.

  • Hardy people, indeed! All that labor for such a little amount of water, it makes one appreciate the Division of Labor modern societies enjoy. For that amount of labor (getting the root out) you get very little returns. No wonder they have time for little else, i.e. they cannot progress beyond subsistence. Interestingly enough, Australian peoples used to have fish farms and basic agriculture before being ran out by European settlers, so it is not like they LIKE that life.

  • Thank you! Thumbs up! Pisses me off to see/hear people speak in broken English.

  • I love water, this makes me appreciate how easy i can just drink water any time. We i-world countries are very lucky.

  • gosh how many flys r in that place? 0.-?

  • so many flys

  • lol

  • I bet it is tastier than what we, in the so called civilized world, have to drink most of the time.

  • You got that right.

  • He really believes himself: "you cant get any cleaner water then this." haha:D

  • he means there.

  • he means its been cleaned by the rock and the sand

    its better than city water

  • and its probably the truth, it hasnt been sat still in some mucky man made lake and been topped up with chlorine and flouride before coming through some shitty old pipes made with god knows what to end up at your house.

  • Where i live, in Sweden we have some really fine premium water, wich i strongly doubt that water can surpass in quality.

  • How is that, what makes your water so fine and premium?

  • LSD.

  • No pollution, good water cleaning center etc.

  • For some closure, let me just say. The water itself is not "man made" it's an natural product, H20, Wich we humans refine and try to filter, cleanse, rid of pollution and numerous dangerous chemcials and/or toxins. Water that has been cleansed trough a water filtering facility is far more tastier then the water that you can drink from creeks and water spots around in the nature. Water tastes more water the cleaner it is, therefore I say that water that has been cleansed by man is the tastiest.

  • for more tastier? How do you know, have you actually tried some of the wild resources? And don't go overboard with the cleansing thought, as the most cleansed water possible, is actually not healthy to us.(Destilled water)since it has no minireals or what so ever for us.many drink it though, like you, but it lacks the minireals, read it on wiki if you dont beleave me.

  • "Clean" water is filled with chlorine which is a poison to the human body. I live in the mountains, and the runoff from the snow in upper elevations through the pumice and granite in spring is the tastiest water around. It's actually sweet!

  • Chlorine in water is not poison, you moron.

  • Uh, yes, you moron, Chlorine IS a poison to most organic living things.

It steals oxygen molecules as it oxidises which destroys cells in the Human body. ...Or trust giant corporations and your government. Idiot.

This is what is wrong with the world.

  • and + cssfiend lol we know what the pipes that lead the water is made of. Learn your facts dude.

  • Can you do this to any kind of tree?

  • yeah..... go ir u backyard and dug up a nice pine tree rout and then try it.... it works great lmao... haha bud i have no idea. just wanted to say that, lmao

  • dude thers like 2 much flys..

  • The aboriginals never strayed to far from rivers ponds or lakes or rainfall. if they did they usually knew aprox, where the next water sourse was. They were Nomads not idiots. But Mears is better than Grylls and Straud

  • hes not giving any1 advice in this video hes being shown by the women how they find water when needed ,maybe if you paid attention when some1 else is talking instead of talking shit you would have got that point you ignorant cunt

  • oh yeah wiru.. capi wiru.. legend

  • the hole fills back up

  • Here's what I don't get... it looks like they dig a whole lot for a very small amount of water.. and it's hard work in warm temps. Wouldn't this just dehydrate you and cause you to need more water then what you find?

  • dig your roots in cooler days late afternoon; plan to take root on journey

  • You have a good point Njubish, but I think the concept they are trying to demonstrate is if there are no other option; work very hard so there is some water or faint from dehydration. But your point does indecate that other methods may be more practical.

    fwy.

  • i think the soil there is relatively loose, so digging for water isn't as difficult as in other areas.

  • Oo, sweet, go auzzie :)

  • these guys are awesome the only rlike this is reason they are able to survive like this is because they were born into it i mean if an english wentlive with with them they would be screwed

  • and they love diggn' too..

  • I have used the first method they showed when I was in Australia. But I used fabric to strain the water.

  • this is incredible how these people live and survive in these desperate majors. im thinking to myself where do they get the strength from. its like wow i complain so much about my life and these people have to get water out the ground to drink and there still happy. god bless them im learnin to appreciate life more cuz of this video.

  • I know and we take bottle water for granted.

  • thats alot of bugs...lol flying insects

  • What do the men do?

This is kind of different from the gender roles we have in the western society. At least for most of history.

  • It's been theorised that the hunter-gatherer idea may have been more split than we think. The men hunted. The women gathered, that would explain the roles displayed here, the women search out foods they can gather to bring back, while the men go kill stuff.

I've hard this theory applied to the way we shop these days too. And it makes a lot of sense! Men go get one thing that they know they need and return, women go and search out many options returning with the best of what they've found.

  • ok, that means that it isn't what the feminists like to claim - society, patriarchy and stereotypes. They have a firm cause in the way the different genders think.

But I feel a little odd, because I am male but shop more like the way women shop.

  • thats because your gay.

  • what nonsense. It just means I may be a little metrosexual.

You don't think. You are an airhead and it's self-evident because you just proved it.

  • or it may mean that you are gay and you dont know it

  • Interesting. No one who actually knows me calls me gay.

why are we talking about homos on a survival video?

  • I agree with pepper on the origins of the hunter/gatherer society and the split in roles between the genders.

The position of men and women in society differs greatly from region to region and culture to culture. I think the restrictions on women started to develop as hunter/gatherers were replaced with farming, agriculture and social development and a different set of gender roles were being formed to conform.
