"Effectiveness of Acyclovir on Meniere's Syndrome III Observation of Clinical Symptoms in 301 cases," Mitsuo Shichinohe, M.D., Ph.D., The Sapporo Medical Journal, Vol. 68, No. 4-6, Cases of 301 MD patients treated with antiviral meds The results were: In 82.5% of cases diagnosed as Meniere's Disease, 85% of cases diagnosed as Meniere's Syndrome, and 89.1% of cases diagnosed as vestibular dysfunction, vertigo disappeared, and tinnitus and hearing were improved.
Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University of Massachusetts Medical School,
Morphological and clinical evidence supports a viral neuropathy in Ménière's disease (MD). Quantitative examination with transmission electron microscopy of vestibular ganglion cells excised from a patient with MD revealed viral particles enclosed in transport vesicles. Antiviral treatment controlled vertigo in 32 of 35 patients with MD (91%). PMID: 19142031 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]
It's becoming common knowledge that Meniere's is caused by a viral infection and can be cured in 85%~90% of cases by taking Valtrex 1000mg three times a day or Zovirex 800mg five times a day for 4~6 weeks. These drugs are not even mentioned by most ENTs could lead many a reader to consider drastic, ineffective and irreversible surgical management which is still being pushed by many lagging doctors. sources above:
Just like Ive said I am 50 now and its been 38 years since I have suffered it I have always lived in Mexico City but now I am living in Canada as last Christmas I got married for the very first time ! so as you can see there is always hope no matter how hard this disease may be!
I've had meniere's for about 1 year + and I've just had a gentamycin injection. I'm waiting to see if it does anything. I've had to leave my job because of it!!!
Not sure what I have. Sometimes I wake up with this dizziness that gets better with movement and worse when I lie down or sit still. And it lasts for hours.
you might have meniere's disease..did you have rining in your hears? hearing loss? if so try a low sodium diet. no more then 1500 to 2000 mg a day. no caffiene,no alcohol and no chocalate.
I have to ask you a question. I have been having vertigo attacks, but they only last a few seconds followed by around 30 seconds of dizziness. I get these vertigo attacks about every other week. It is not caused by the position of my head, but it seems to be triggered by stress. The length of the vertigo attacks falls in line with bppv, but because it is not positionally triggered, it cant be bppv. I know symptoms widely range, but out of your experience does it sound like menieres?
I was admitted to the emergency room in 2001 and every doctor at the hosp. thought I had a brain tumor (Barnes in St.Louis). After 3 days I was discharged (head still spinning) with no diagnosis and bound to a wheelchair. At home I self-diagnosed thanks to the internet with Meneiere's and found a homoepathic remedy called cocculus compostium and after taking it and watching my diet, 6 years later I am 80% recovered but still have bad bad headaches, ear fullness and occ. dizziness when arising
James i have had menieres for 10 years and tinnitus most of my life, the ent specialist at my hospital doesnt want to see me anymore, i get the feeling he doesnt believe me, not even my family do any more they say i have to keep going, any advice?
James, very good video that I just discovered....you made it sound like there is light at the end of this tunnel. Where can I post messages to you, other than here???

Etiology = Viral Infection - Vestibular Ganglionitis. Recurrent vertigo attacks similar in pattern to Herpes outbreaks - hence viral etiology also.
Soln = Treatment with anti-viral drugs. Proposes following Regimen with 90% success
Acyclovir 800mg 3 times daily for 3 weeks, then
800mg 2 times daily for 30 days - then
800mg 1 time daily for 30 days.
Please do ur due diligence
