  • thx, great exercise tutorial!

  • were you in marching band you play like a marcher

  • @ThatKidFromClevland theres not a "marching style" its just traditional grip

  • Thanks!!!@

  • Did you ever march snare?

  • dallas!!!! i live in waco tx!!!!

  • I'll give it try. :D

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He said a month but 2 weeks for me and still playn with the video....Mexiboii THANK YOU TOO!!!!!!!!

  • that nigga is stright out of da bronks

  • one poatoe two potaoe three potoe more i can count like that very good drummen bro

  • is there a reason your holding the left hand different than the right....or is it just a habit

  • @MrBALLIN99

    It's traditional grip.

  • c'mon dude play some brutal blast beats! im sure u'll own 'em all

  • do you use the moeller technique? what technique do you use?

  • Quick tip for everybody!! if u want to increase your hand speed even faster, play these exercises on a pillow or fold up a towel on ur laps. Trust me, first day, you'll see results.

  • @mexiboii001 how does that help? not being a dick just wondering? :)

  • @h1bB0ilzZ The pillow or towel doesn't have any rebound like a drum or pad does, so it makes you work harder. So, when you do it on an actual drum, you don't have to do so much work, and its easier. Hope that helped! :)

  • @mexiboii001 or drumseat (;

  • @mexiboii001 Jojo said not to overdo that, 'cause it's making you play through the drum, not out of the drum, y'know.. But when it's done in moderation with practicing on a real snare, it helps a lot. Now I have no problems in playing singles and rudiments on floor toms, stacks, etc.

  • he lied! he said i would see improvment in a month, but ive been doin it twice a day for a about a week and a half and ive already seen improvements :)...great video

  • he talks strange? is that right?....sry, im german....

  • @Hensomat Nah he jus has a country accent lol

  • I was

  • An actual STARGATE/PORTAL-THING was caught on film in New Mexico. The footage can be found within the short-film entitled "SUDDEN PORTHOLE", which is parked at the PROJECT CAMELOT YouTube page (it's under the George Noory video).

I'm not selling anything…I'm just trying to spread the word about the unseen-dimensions we find ourselves embedded in.

My BLOG contains peripheral data regarding the movie and is where I reply to the "debunkers" (use search words "SAM ZURICK" & "BLOG"). THANKS!!

  • awesome.

  • you using mainly fingers or wrists?

  • Xcelnt, props 2 any man with energy 2 share with the masses!!

  • more tutorial

  • sweeet!

  • question. I noticed your left wrist is barely moving. Do you propel the stick with your thumb or forefinger or both? Thanks.

  • kevin hart

  • Nice . . . but . . . . sleepy . . .

  • The most important thing to remember with this and any speed exercise is RELAX! The tendency is to increase finger tension with an increase in speed. This is totally counterproductive. Accept the rebound and return the impulse tho the stick with as little effort as you can manage. This is a great video to help you practice. Look at his fingers and how little tension/effort he is making. This is not magic, it is mastery of micromuscle movements not spastic muscle tension. Again great video.

  • nice!

  • great!!

  • i watched this vid 2 years ago and i couldnt keep up with 180. now i can keep up at least :D

  • Good exercise, you really know what you are doing, in practice, new stuff and experimentation count aloud is need. Ty.

  • trust ima do this isssh thats homie

  • Still wana do a live arrangement bro

  • I've been doing this for an hour a day for a month now and I've seen very little results if none at all.... what could I be doing wrong =\

  • @xlhotlx a month isnt long enough..try 3.u should see more

  • thanks man this has helped me so much :P

  • thanks you man thank you

  • That's bad ass! :o)

  • this is intense kenneth :D i'm astonished at the fact that you are drummer. I'm not trying to be racist but i havn't seen 1 black drummer in London who plays as well as you do. This just shows that the attitude in America is so much better than in England.

  • great exercise...should do sumthin on back sticking for marching snare if you can, i could you some tips on that.

  • just to piggyback----stretch first and after too.

  • Nice basic excercise Kenneth to increase your single stroke roll speed.

I do the same but I use a towel on my practice pad to increase resistance.

  • see man i needed this becuz i've been drumming for only a year and im in a group and we go to different place to play and i see so many other drummers and they all r so much better than me and its like every time i see them play its like i dont want to play no more becuz i dont feel like im getting any better but this might enhance me alot

  • god stuff bro!

  • Sweet

  • Good technique with both hands too. I can see that was all finger and wrist. You hardly moved your arms at all. Very good and thanks again

  • The secret to increased hand speed: Singles and doubles.

  • Thanks man, you rock!

  • Nice, thanks

  • great video...

  • wat does he say at 1:00? a wat?

  • @703390 metronome

  • @703390 Metronome. Adjustable electronic click track is what it is basically.

  • Your pretty fast bro.

  • Kobe!

  • black people got groove. That's what you should have said to those kids.

  • Excellent Kenneth. GOD bless you!

  • Dude thank you so much for this video!! :)

    Btw I have gotten better

But how long should I do the exercise for??

  • oh and another thing, wen i do those fast non stop rolls, i tend to get really tight and it makes me stop. anything u no to help me change that?

  • @Chase911007 The better your control on your technique gets the less tight your arms will get.

  • @Chase911007 slow down the tempo

  • this helps thanks bro. and wat kind of sticks are those?

  • il like your video , tks bro

  • First of all good video, and great exercise, will definately start doing that every day. Do you work with your wrists or do you use fingers? Talking about the first exercise. I notice you have that "pumping" motion with your wrists.

  • I use an online metronome at 160, and its weird because I can do the single handed ones fine, but when I try it with both hands, I get like the first 5 correctly and then I lose my rythm and get out of synch with the metronome.

  • @xlhotlx gotta get even strokes mang.. Dont fluctuate pulse.

  • @jimmyjeff88 that didn't help at all thanks....

  • @xlhotlx no problem cunt.

  • @jimmyjeff88 jeez chill out...

  • Thanks for putting this vid on i'm going to start this from tomorrow!

  • but how many hours you gotta do that a day????????????

  • @dashingjavi you dont, I'm pretty sure you just do exactly what he does in the video; 3 sets of 10 on each hand, then 3 sets of 10 with both hands at the same time.

  • @xlhotlx ok dude, thanks, i'll do that :)

  • Texas drummin' baby. . . nice man. good routine. . . Imma gonna make myself start with that everyday , and see what happens. Do you switch from left to right at count ten on the single stroke roll ?

  • Really good variation on this exercize: switch between sets of 10 like he did but start with 10 sets of singles on the right, then 10 sets of alternating (so twice the notes) with both hands, then 10 sets of singles with the left, then again 10 sets of alternating with both hands. Just repeat that overall 2-5 times per practice and u will have some fast fucking hands.

  • omg those are giant sticks

  • @LondonDeserted Black people tend to have larger ones.

  • @LondonDeserted they're marching sticks. like for drumline

  • Great clip Kenneth, it's helped with my hand speed and control heaps. All the best mate.

  • Nice vid, man! How much time do you spend everyday on this stuff? Thanks!

  • thank you man!

  • 2 people dont saw a dark-skinned guy who's attitude is good. :)

  • Why do you talk so uneducated ?

  • @09poolcleaner What did he say that sounded uneducated ?

  • @jordanjcm every word

  • @09poolcleaner At least be honest and say you do not like the way some niggers talk.

  • @jordanjcm Hey, chill out with the N word man... This 2011 not 1864 yo.

  • Comment removed

  • @jordanjcm I should hav never said that. I said that because that guy said you talked uneducated and I though that he was being a racist jerk. I thought your comment was from him. It was a backfired, huge FAILED attempt to show him. I am sorry.

  • Great Video man. I really appreciate its apparent simplicity and effectiveness. Are you using moeler technique, or just playing each "note" individually? It's hard to tell online.

  • good lesson, good attitude, long breath

  • What's the best practice pad to get?

  • thanks for this video my way of increasing handspeed being a gospel drummer and all was to play fast songs at least once a day, I would generally play tye tribbetts no way just playing it as fast as i could throughout the whole song without stopping, I was worn out afterwards but it helped. i dont do it anymore but im gonna get back to it. This video really actually helped though, as far as handspeed goes everyone else just says to keep practicing, but they dont tell how. Thanks again.

  • thanks, this is really helpful actually

  • thanks for the video. i actually play along with this one a lot....good warm up

  • can't imagine ever getting that fast and accurate with my left hand

  • how long do we do them each day?

  • These are 8th notes right? So two hits for each beat on the metronome?

  • @icame2dance1 yea and the ending is 16th notes 4 hits per click

  • @hellnoob11 Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • What are the 3 different groupings with hands together, thanks

  • omg !! i can't even remember the counting numbers..!! u r awesome dude...

  • GOD BLEESED YOU WITH A TRULY AWESOME TALENT!! THAT'S HOW YOU CAN EXPLAIN TO THOSE KIDS. LOL!! OH YEAH IM SURE THE EXERCISE'S HELP!! LOL. THANKS AGAIN!! I KNOW I WAS BLESSED I NEVER TOOK ANY MUSIC CLASSES. AND WAS PLAYING CCR PROUD MARY IN MY KINDERGARDEN SHOW AND TELL. LOL. YOU HAVE TRULY BEEN BLESSED KENNETH!!

  • @JSTUNNA420 STOP WRITING IN CAPS, IT'S ANNOYING AS FUCK!! THANK YOU!!!

  • THANKS FOR SHOWIN' THAT! IVE BEEN PLAYIN' FOR 24 YEARS. IM 28 YEARS OLD AND IM STILL LEARNING THINGS LIKE THIS FROM NATURALLY TALENTED DRUMMERS AS YOURSELF!! I CANT COMMENT ON ALL OF THEM BUT I LOVE ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS AND THATS WHY I SUBSCRIBED. THANKS KENNETH!!

  • any tips on how to play with traditional grip cuz i suck at it! ive been playin matched so for so long it aint funny!

  • Not just any percussion instrument, ANY instrument you play, you need a metronome! So very helpful.

  • Your super cool dude.

Get yo ass 'down under' and do sum lessons here.

    thanks

  • Do you think you'd be able to play blast beats using this excercise eventually?

    (around 210 bpm)

I don't know if you're into that kind of music, judging from your hand technique you seem more like a jazz player, but still.

  • @ilikezelda64 ya basicly it will help u wit that too

  • i hope this helps cuz when i start getting fast my both hands get messed up like doing flams and stuff...

  • great!!! thnx m8

  • i'm gonna start out at 20

  • Humble spirit!... you got my respect bro...

  • how long do you practice hands exercises every day, how many minutes usually? i'm trying to get faster it's hard

  • hey thats's the best tip i ever seen before, and you have a great way to practice and improve speed to your weaker hand, thanks, that will help me a lot!!!

  • why r u giving your sticks a handjob.

  • NIce one

  • GRacias por los ejercicios... me han servido bastante.....

  • How long do you recomend doing the excersies for each day?

  • @4321Tucker a good bit but not enough to injure your arm cause its a pain in the ass and you have to wait for it to heal or else you'll aggravate it.

  • that's cool man you have naturally developed the superior hand positioning just from doing this so much ... I think it's interesting to see how our muscles adjust even if we don't make a conscious effort to make them ...

  • thx alot dude... you Rule ;O)

  • Unless if the blurriness in the video quality is fooling me, you seem to be using a Moeller 2-stroke without realizing it. It looks like your wrist goes slightly down on the down beat and up on the upbeat ... well mostly but not every time because you're doing it intuitively.

  • Hey thats great advice! check out my video, its about speed also =)

  • i started counting finally thanks to you

  • this is gonna help loads, thanks man :D

  • what about to increase control, so ud b able to do dynamics almost wherever u want or to place accents whereever u want. do u have any good excercies for that?

  • thanx does this also help with your control?

  • KB...thanx for the tips. I'm gonna definitely add this to my practice routine. Peace & Blessings.

  • That´s the kind of video I´m glad to see on youtube... Plain and simple. Congrats and thanks for sharinng!

  • This is great advice

  • This video really increase my drumming spead and the spead in which I can beat my wife. Thank man!

  • What kind of practice pad set up do you have? I have a pad, but where do you find a stand for one like that? Or is it connected?

  • fam practice these on a pillow. you'll be mad faster.

    God bless

  • He hits it with his left hand differently, are you supposed to hit it that way?

  • @PineappleJaguar If you're referring to the way he holds the stick, that's called traditional grip and it is optional, not required. If you're talking about the way his right hand accents notes and then comes down on the "and" count, that's most likely just from playing the cymbals with the right hand more than the left. :)

  • @PineappleJaguar he uses traditional grip

  • I want to thank you for making the video bro, you da man!

  • thanks man!

  • Very nice dude. God bless you man! I'm subbed :)

  • this exercise is the perfect example of "simplicity is not stupidity"

  • Thanks for this....good hand speed and this taught me things for me to build up my improvisation.

  • Good little post this one. It is so true that this is one of the best ways to get your hands moving nice and fast, but with the control you need.

And i have the same Metronome!!!

And Kenneth has a great Dallas accent!!

  • Kenneth, great exercises. Grab a copy of George Lawrence Stone's "Stick Control: For the Snare Drummer" & "Accents & Rebounds: For the Snare Drummer."

Both books R advanced. SC starts intermediate for those level of players. But quickly gets difficult & by the time U'r 1/2 way in your chops are SHREDDED! No exaggeration. Start A&R once you're 1/2 into SC. If U finish both books (most can't) you'll have WICKED speed, control, & dynamic range.

These R 2 of the best drum books ever written.

  • wow, so simple, so effektive thanks a lot

    greetings from germany

  • another tip for building up speed and strength in your forearms is to practice this same exercise on a pillow......more resistance.

  • What kind of sticks are those? And what size are they?

  • That's very helpful. Awesome job. May GOD bless

  • is it better to do these exercises on a pillow

  • The singles here are sixteenths (4 per click). Alan Dawson had his stick control method where it was 8 taps per click. In other words, here Kenneth is playing at 90 BPM if you look at it that way. Most of Dawsons students were doing 8 taps per click at 120 or 126 (which is 240 or 252 as done here) I saw Dawson himself do 152, which is 304 as done here. Advantage of doing it Dawson's way is that more things were accomplished doing it with Stone's Stick control. Start with left hand also.

  • 3:43 let's go.

  • Just masturbate everyday, it gets the job done :)

  • thanks men im not a marching snare im a drumset player you know... rock hip hop and all that stuff... imma try this xcrsise to improve my speed thanks for real!

  • do i have to turn my left hand side ways like that to learn the right way?

  • @BIGSABMUSIC LOL do it however u want, turning ur hand sideways is the traditional grip, but u can also use the match grip

  • ima tyr this out young hope it works

  • Thanks a lot, definitely helped! :D

  • u play rudimental snare 2

  • no get rid of the pads use pillows thats what buddy rich and dennis chambers use

  • 0_0

  • on the second excersise.. what kinda notes are u playing.. are you playing 16th notes.. cause it sounds faster

  • thank you, this helped.. God bless :)

  • when u first started, did your left hand seem slower than your right? cuz it feels easy wit my right but it harder on my left!

  • yes good technique but can u garantee results!!!???

  • fak, i cant play tradition grip, like at all - it just feels weird to me

  • I liked the video, good advice for me even after almost 5 years of drumming... i just wanted to ask you, was the second exercise a single stroke roll or a double stroke roll

  • Kool vid man not many people understand the importance of a metronome thanks for the tips

  • fingers no wrist

  • I'm a righty and I have so much difficulty with my left hand speed. I don't know how to control my left hand. I've been playing for 3 years and my left hand is stubborn as hell. I want to chop it off. any advice?

  • @ChicDrummerChic just slow it down and keep practicing at a slow tempo until the muscles build up, it sucks and it takes a long time i know my left hand was stubborn as well at first but just dont give up and practice every day with a metronome. also concentrate on having the same stroke with your left hand as your right hand:same placement, same grip (unless you use a traditional grip like this video) and also the same height above the drum for each hit. just keep practicing you'll get it! :)
