Quick tip for everybody!! if u want to increase your hand speed even faster, play these exercises on a pillow or fold up a towel on ur laps. Trust me, first day, you'll see results.
@h1bB0ilzZ The pillow or towel doesn't have any rebound like a drum or pad does, so it makes you work harder. So, when you do it on an actual drum, you don't have to do so much work, and its easier. Hope that helped! :)
@mexiboii001 Jojo said not to overdo that, 'cause it's making you play through the drum, not out of the drum, y'know.. But when it's done in moderation with practicing on a real snare, it helps a lot. Now I have no problems in playing singles and rudiments on floor toms, stacks, etc.
he lied! he said i would see improvment in a month, but ive been doin it twice a day for a about a week and a half and ive already seen improvements :)...great video
An actual STARGATE/PORTAL-THING was caught on film in New Mexico. The footage can be found within the short-film entitled "SUDDEN PORTHOLE", which is parked at the PROJECT CAMELOT YouTube page (it's under the George Noory video).
I'm not selling anything…I'm just trying to spread the word about the unseen-dimensions we find ourselves embedded in.
My BLOG contains peripheral data regarding the movie and is where I reply to the "debunkers" (use search words "SAM ZURICK" & "BLOG"). THANKS!!
The most important thing to remember with this and any speed exercise is RELAX! The tendency is to increase finger tension with an increase in speed. This is totally counterproductive. Accept the rebound and return the impulse tho the stick with as little effort as you can manage. This is a great video to help you practice. Look at his fingers and how little tension/effort he is making. This is not magic, it is mastery of micromuscle movements not spastic muscle tension. Again great video.
this is intense kenneth :D i'm astonished at the fact that you are drummer. I'm not trying to be racist but i havn't seen 1 black drummer in London who plays as well as you do. This just shows that the attitude in America is so much better than in England.
see man i needed this becuz i've been drumming for only a year and im in a group and we go to different place to play and i see so many other drummers and they all r so much better than me and its like every time i see them play its like i dont want to play no more becuz i dont feel like im getting any better but this might enhance me alot
First of all good video, and great exercise, will definately start doing that every day. Do you work with your wrists or do you use fingers? Talking about the first exercise. I notice you have that "pumping" motion with your wrists.
I use an online metronome at 160, and its weird because I can do the single handed ones fine, but when I try it with both hands, I get like the first 5 correctly and then I lose my rythm and get out of synch with the metronome.
@dashingjavi you dont, I'm pretty sure you just do exactly what he does in the video; 3 sets of 10 on each hand, then 3 sets of 10 with both hands at the same time.
Texas drummin' baby. . . nice man. good routine. . . Imma gonna make myself start with that everyday , and see what happens. Do you switch from left to right at count ten on the single stroke roll ?
Really good variation on this exercize: switch between sets of 10 like he did but start with 10 sets of singles on the right, then 10 sets of alternating (so twice the notes) with both hands, then 10 sets of singles with the left, then again 10 sets of alternating with both hands. Just repeat that overall 2-5 times per practice and u will have some fast fucking hands.
@jordanjcm I should hav never said that. I said that because that guy said you talked uneducated and I though that he was being a racist jerk. I thought your comment was from him. It was a backfired, huge FAILED attempt to show him. I am sorry.
Great Video man. I really appreciate its apparent simplicity and effectiveness. Are you using moeler technique, or just playing each "note" individually? It's hard to tell online.
thanks for this video my way of increasing handspeed being a gospel drummer and all was to play fast songs at least once a day, I would generally play tye tribbetts no way just playing it as fast as i could throughout the whole song without stopping, I was worn out afterwards but it helped. i dont do it anymore but im gonna get back to it. This video really actually helped though, as far as handspeed goes everyone else just says to keep practicing, but they dont tell how. Thanks again.
GOD BLEESED YOU WITH A TRULY AWESOME TALENT!! THAT'S HOW YOU CAN EXPLAIN TO THOSE KIDS. LOL!! OH YEAH IM SURE THE EXERCISE'S HELP!! LOL. THANKS AGAIN!! hey thats's the best tip i ever seen before, and you have a great way to practice and improve speed to your weaker hand, thanks, that will help me a lot!!!
that's cool man you have naturally developed the superior hand positioning just from doing this so much ... I think it's interesting to see how our muscles adjust even if we don't make a conscious effort to make them ...
Unless if the blurriness in the video quality is fooling me, you seem to be using a Moeller 2-stroke without realizing it. It looks like your wrist goes slightly down on the down beat and up on the upbeat ... well mostly but not every time because you're doing it intuitively.
what about to increase control, so ud b able to do dynamics almost wherever u want or to place accents whereever u want. do u have any good excercies for that?
@PineappleJaguar If you're referring to the way he holds the stick, that's called traditional grip and it is optional, not required. If you're talking about the way his right hand accents notes and then comes down on the "and" count, that's most likely just from playing the cymbals with the right hand more than the left. :)
Kenneth, great exercises. Grab a copy of George Lawrence Stone's "Stick Control: For the Snare Drummer" & "Accents & Rebounds: For the Snare Drummer."
Both books R advanced. SC starts intermediate for those level of players. But quickly gets difficult & by the time U'r 1/2 way in your chops are SHREDDED! No exaggeration. Start A&R once you're 1/2 into SC. If U finish both books (most can't) you'll have WICKED speed, control, & dynamic range.
The singles here are sixteenths (4 per click). Alan Dawson had his stick control method where it was 8 taps per click. In other words, here Kenneth is playing at 90 BPM if you look at it that way. Most of Dawsons students were doing 8 taps per click at 120 or 126 (which is 240 or 252 as done here) I saw Dawson himself do 152, which is 304 as done here. Advantage of doing it Dawson's way is that more things were accomplished doing it with Stone's Stick control. Start with left hand also.
thanks men im not a marching snare im a drumset player you know... rock hip hop and all that stuff... imma try this xcrsise to improve my speed thanks for real!
I liked the video, good advice for me even after almost 5 years of drumming... i just wanted to ask you, was the second exercise a single stroke roll or a double stroke roll
I'm a righty and I have so much difficulty with my left hand speed. I don't know how to control my left hand. I've been playing for 3 years and my left hand is stubborn as hell. I want to chop it off. any advice?
@ChicDrummerChic just slow it down and keep practicing at a slow tempo until the muscles build up, it sucks and it takes a long time i know my left hand was stubborn as well at first but just dont give up and practice every day with a metronome. also concentrate on having the same stroke with your left hand as your right hand:same placement, same grip (unless you use a traditional grip like this video) and also the same height above the drum for each hit. just keep practicing you'll get it! :)
thx, great exercise tutorial!

I want to chop it off. any advice?
ChicDrummerChic 1 year ago
@ChicDrummerChic just slow it down and keep practicing at a slow tempo until the muscles build up, it sucks and it takes a long time i know my left hand was stubborn as well at first but just dont give up and practice every day with a metronome. also concentrate on having the same stroke with your left hand as your right hand:same placement, same grip (unless you use a traditional grip like this video) and also the same height above the drum for each hit. just keep practicing you'll get it! :)
