@Hawelo92 It's just your imagination. That was an edit done by ATLUS' North American office for localization purposes. Dumbest thing I've ever seen somebody do, besides trying to convince us that it was set in America.
You know, if they completely re-did the game and made the gameplay similar to P4 and P3, this remake would've been amazing... You can already tell the music is amazing, why not make everything amazing? :3
@MrIvalice The Persona/SMT distinction is valid, but doesn't contradict what I was saying. With Persona 3 and 4, Atlus focused less on complex gameplay mechanics and instead emphasized story, dialogue and conventional JRPG characters - and this was clearly made in order to appeal to a wider audience. As you rightly point out, however, the developer has simultaneously continued to release games like Strange Journey (unofficially called "SMT 4") which retain all the classic Megaten mechanics.
@Demiath@dagger1087 it's because it was intentional...in fact, in the original japanese releases of Persona 3 & Persona 4...they don't have the Shin Megami Tensei Preface.
@Demiath@dagger1087 it's because it was intentional...in fact, in the original japanese releases of Persona 3 & Persona 4...they don't have the Shin Magami Tensei Preface.
@Demiath@dagger1087 because it was intentional. &...imo...4 took what 3 did & took it to an entirely different level. Persona 3 was as dark in atmosphere as it's predecessors & the fact that 4 was at times so superficially poppy, bright & colorful on the surface even though the plotline involved some dark & not usually touched on stuff...It was almost like a beautiful metaphor...but I digress....
@Demiath Oh, okay. So, once you recruit them, they act like personas did in 3 and 4. That's interesting. I'm sure I'll end up playing this someday... maybe if they release the PSP version of P2 in English, I'll get them so that I have the set. It seems quite different from 3 and 4, so I've been apprehensive. Thanks for the explanations.
Sure the dungeon grinding and battles get very (and let me just emphatize) VERY repetitive, but the story is awesome. Never ever doubt a SMT game, specially the Persona series. If you do, you have no right to call yourself a fan. This is JRPG Dungeoning at it's very best. You either like it or dont. And if you dont, then you're missing out on a lot.
I tried this game on the PSOne, and I HATED it. The characters were douchebags, and the interface was a MESS. This remake doesn't look that much better, except for the kick-ass music.
But I guess I can't be TOO hard on the game, since it did lay the groundwork for its awesome sequels.
@PSNXxBarretxX Neither Persona 3 or 4 are very challenging, but Persona 3 can become tricky because of the lack of manual control of party members (i.e. the AI can screw you over for no fault of your own). Also, the P3 final boss is potentially one of the most frustrating experiences you can have in a modern RPG...
@PSNXxBarretxX It depends (there are multiple paths through the game, one of them including a super-hardcore secret dungeon), but I'd say Persona 1 is probably harder than Persona 4 in general. P4 was pretty easy, even compared to Persona 3...
@tallpinoyman Well, it's never quite that simple. For example, the main difference in difficulty between Persona 3 and Persona 4 is a result of the latter game's manual party control feature...which in and of itself is quite simply better game design in general and improved "frustration management" in particular.
I like the look of this game, even though I started off on the Persona 3/4 set of games. The only thing that bothers me though was the battle theme. I've listened to the original version and the PSX version sounded so much better. I could quite easily get used to the dungeon crawling interface (It reminds me of a simplistic version of P4's and sorta those old dungeon crawling games)
And the battle system, since I've played Persona 2 recently I could quite easily get used to it.
Well, the one doesn't necessarily exclude the other. Particularly if enough people buy the Persona 1 remake, Persona 2 for the PSP will become that much more likely...
The gameplay doesn't differ too much from persona 2 actually. Either way we don't need a persona 2 port to the PSP because PSP can already emulate PS1 games and the original release(and fan translation) of Persona 2 are both fine as is
It's true that Persona 2 hardly needs fixing in the same way as Persona 1 did. Still, I would totally pay for a PSP version of the second game with, say, higher resolution 3D graphics, a better interface and faster battles. Also, as good as the PSOne support on PSP can often get it's still not quite as stable and reliable as something designed from the ground up for the handheld system.
There are trapped chests which deal damage (no big deal) and a few dungeons also have trap doors through which you fall down to a lower level (once they've been triggered once they are marked on the map). More often than not, you're supposed to use the trap doors to get to the end of the dungeon but on rare occasions they take you all the way back to the entrance.
actually this is a piece of crap same as you , how can you like such a piece of shit ? ...they only have same animation over and over , lol ...and ability to talk with the monsters , this is so stupid
@haohmaru12 Then what RU doin here? afterall everyone has the right to play anything he/she want... and make a video share of it... dont you think? (yea i can see already your answer: "STFU" but i dont expect more from you...) you know there was a time when tha games not was all about violence, just for fun... you should know...
I'm still waiting for this to arrive in the post. Can you kill that J-Pop in the battles?
Supposedly this is the version to go over the original english PS1 release, as this one hasn't been butchered. Although when people talk about Mark being white, is that because he was originally white or was he changed in the original PS1 english port?
I appreciate it's a taste thing, but I have to re-iterate; that battle music is painful.
I haven't checked but I don't think there's a way to turn off the J-Pop, so hopefully you'll learn to live with it. But yes, this is the definite version of the game; apart from a new localization you also get an improved interface, tweaked difficulty and the previously omitted Snow Queen subquest.
As for Mark, he was white in the original Japanese version but the English "localization" of 1996 changed him to a black guy. So in this version he's back to his original Japanese self again...
Apparently that can be really confusing for some. I had a commentator on a previous Persona video who asked why Mark wasn't in the game any longer... ;)
The way the random encounters work is just so hilarious. The music is a complete joke, and the character voices are dumber than the ones on the dubbed pokemon cartoons. All that aside this game looks pretty nice. When does the satanic/divine aspect of the series show up?
oh god is this as bad strange journey with the crawling >.<?
