  • This clearly inspired the scene from War of the Worlds! (The new one) The roar even sounds like the tripods.

  • I liked that they kinda recreated the shot in GMK GIANT MONSTERS ALL OUT ATTACK XD

  • Turns out the Godzilla roar sound was a rusty iron gate outside the production office that made the film. They held a microphone to it as they opened and closed it. If you listen closely you can tell it's just some rusty springs. :)

  • @TisJacob I apologize for responding to an old comment, but this is one of those things that would bug me.

Actually, Godzillas roar was made by the composer dipping a rubber glove into rosin (a material that improves the sound of string instruments) and rubbing it on the lowest string of a contrabass, which had previously been loosened and let out of tune. Then they messed around with it to make it sound like an animal noise. Those springs are actually a noises from a string instrument

  • godzilla 1954 cool movie

  • I saw the Raymond Burr version when I was about 5, this is one of the scenes that gave me the willies.

  • Stop screaming! For God's sake! Have you seen his legs?!! HE'S NOT HOPPIN OVER THE HILL!!!

  • I don't care who you are, anyone would crap their pants if they saw that!

  • Raaan! It's Gojiraaa!!!

  • I'm still having trouble finding any backers to help build a lifesize

    Godzilla sculpture.

  • 0:07 is my favorite part!

  • That roar at 0:07 will stay in my brain for all time.

  • @daftrok i agree its my favorite part

  • everyone who thinks this is scary is chicken

    (mmmmmm...chicken...)

  • those 16 seconds changed me... forever.

  • Scary, man!

  • in gmk godzilla also pokes out his head over the hill but then kicks and crumbles but that was a great tribute to this

  • Godzilla 1954 was the scariest looking Godzilla and had the scariest roars.

  • I like how the original Godzilla was a force of death and destruction. Later on he became a superhero.

  • @FunkyFrank10 true but since 1985 he was a force of death again and he still saved people

  • Originally in this scene, Godzilla was supposed to be holding a dead cow in his mouth.

However, it didn't turn out very well (and it was thought to be too graphic) so they re-shot it. (At least , that's what I heard on the DVD commentary.)

  • think about how terrifying it would be to see Godzilla poke his head out of a hill

  • @FEARfilmz I don't know why, but your comment made me laugh.

  • @FEARfilmz yeah! imagine it's a 1954 movie! amazing raw film

  • I always thought of the original Godzilla as a "lazy" monster. I mean, c'mon, they had to drop a nuclear bomb just to get him outta bed!

    xD

  • @SuperbGodzilla - Did you never get why Godzilla threw a shit fit? He was nuked which as Dr. Yamane pointed out was why he left, somewhere in the Bikini Atoll area his old home was glowing green. I mean if I threw a gas bomb into your house you would come back and return the favor. Wouldn't you? Anyway the lazy one is King Caesar, a 7 minute song to wake him up.

  • @Wunderwaffen1946 lol yeah and Godzilla still ended up beating Mecha Godzilla alone.

  • i wish someone would upload the whole movie in youtube

  • Ive read that the "roar" was made by dragging various bows and things over the strings of a cello and miking them in odd ways.

  • lol, wtf kind of roar is that?

  • Only the most famous cry of any creature ever to be dreamt of.

  • When I watched the original on tape 14 years ago, that was the most killer scene ever.

  • where can i find this movie? i'm dying to watch the original

  • try ebay

  • actually try F.Y.E they have the japaniese tape "Gojira"

  • Also, its a 2 disc set. One has the American Godzilla With Raymond Burr and the othert has the original Japanese Version without im (with subtitles of course).

  • Which scene has the guy committing suicide. Isnt it when the islanders run down the beach?

  • That was the scene that put my man over the top. That metallic roar preceded Led Zeppelin by a decade and a half!

  • bahahha.

i wanna get this godzilla's beastly moan as a ringtone.

  • LOL.

  • oh noooo godzilla is gonna kill me!

  • And Thus A Legend Was Born
