Proud to be a Gurkhali. I am a teen, I am laid back, funny and easy. But swear to god you make fun of my friends or my family. I will beat the sh*t out of you doesn't matter how much I get hurt .
I went to school in Nepal with guys who eventually went on to join the Gurkha regiments. I can tell you they are smiling all the time, laid back, merry and appear harmless. But when you piss them off, oh boy, they become like some other totally different person and really kick your ass. They are afraid of nobody and thing. I have experienced this first hand. The Gurkha legend is not a legend. It is a reality.
The Man who coined the phrase "If a man says he is not afraid of dying, he is either lying or is a Gurkha." was Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw and he wasn't British..he was and will remain an Indian. No offence..just a clarification.
Gorkhas are part of Indian army. The Indian Field Marshal, Late Sam Manekshaw once said, once said, "If someone says that he is happy to die, he should be either a liar or a Gorkha.”
Sam Bahadur was appointed the first colonel of 8 Gorkha Rifles Regiment at Dehradun on May 24, 1953.
@seminar6 I've only recently discovered the Gurkhas contribution to UK and their treatment afterward, which is pretty sad. Here in the states their are a lot of brave troops that still have to go through the bullshit citizenship process even after serving our military. It's shitty that someone willing to die for a country other than their own can be treated so poorly.
ww11 they laid down their lives for England....when they retired from the reg,the British govt would not even allow them to stay in UK.,,,or give them a place to live...the pension they get is half of what a British soldier receives...thats disgusting.....i am ashamed to be English.....Ghurka`s are great people,as are their kids...unlike most of the uk teenagers!!!!!
