  • Jim Wallis is evil. He believes in collective salvation. He, like most liberals, bastardizes the words of the Bible for his own political gain & to suit his putrid liberal agenda. He and Obama have a TON in common. Including being liberation theologians. Evil.

  • democracy?????

  • @chuckinla i agree and some dumb socialist flagged u as spam i unflagged u though

  • I'm so sick of this Barack Hussein phony and his race-baiting wife. This guy pretends to be a "Christian" just to get votes. A lot of people supporting this joker are doing so just because he's black. That's not racist, that's the truth. Most people are fools. They'll turn the country over to any monkey that wears a suit and talks about hope and change.

  • Democracy has become that. It should be more.

  • democracy is the pursuit of nothingness!

    so lifeless, passionless and sickening.

  • What is wrong with you?

  • I consider it a political and social crime that a poor or middle class family be prohibited by the POLITICIANS from getting decent modern housing by negating property ownership through politicaly engineered hyper-inflation and taxation.

FREE MARKETS MUST BE ABOLISHED! DEMOCRACY IS POVERTY --VOTE FOR NO ONE

  • riiiiiiiight.

  • You're right he should travel across the country to speak at colleges for free.

  • Your right Edwards should be out with a gun hunting for poverty.

  • vote barack obama

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • R O N P A U L 2 0 0 8

  • National ID card, Suspension of Habus corpus, Walls and fences, 2 mill. in jail (highest on planet) 60 mil. on probation, "Preemptive war", military bases in 135 different country's, 1/2 your working life..you work for your government's, both parents must work instead of one, ...... Starting to sound familiar??? Be a good little NAZI and vote

  • When will America have a politician willing to make something for the people?

When, for instance, a politician will talk about getting rid of the Federal Reserve scam?

search in google video for "The money masters".

  • Just another perfect example of Democrats (in the name of faith) expressing the sacrifice that they are willing to IMPOSE on everyone else in the anme of Jesus....of course, the only time they would invoke the name of Jesus would be when they are robbing the producers of our society. Millionaires telling all the rest how we should live!

  • WHO do you think the GOP base is? Millionaires! They've done a much better job of "appearing" to be religious all the while squeezing the middle and lower classes of this country. Wake up! Go Hoosiers!!

  • I watched on it and am posting an article on it at hollywoodjesus dot com and thevirtualpew dot com. I wish the entire program was up to link to. Great and we are making our son watch the program which we taped as this is his first presedential election

  • I was impressed with Hillary and Obama in their responses. However, Edwards was a bit of a turnoff considering his expensive haircuts and the large home that he is building for himself.

Overall, this was a great event! I also wish that the whole event could be posted here as well!

  • Just because someone has worked their butt off to be able to afford the better things in life, doesn't mean they are cut off from their roots or that they aren't sincere in working their entire lives on these issues!

  • I question the sincerity of a man who talks about ending poverty and then goes off to spend $400 on a haircut (something that came out of his own campaign's disclosure forms). Anyone who spends that much on a haircut needs to reassess their priorities.

  • that's because you don't know anything about john edwards or anything he's ever done. the man came up from nothing and dragged himself to where he is today. would you be bothered less if he bought a $60,000 car? a $2 million dollar home? no. the man's wife (an amazing woman) is dying of cancer even as he's running for office because that's what they've decided to do. no one, and i mean no one would put themselves through such a trying ordeal if they didn't believe in their platform.

  • neognostic: "no one would put themselves through such a trying ordeal if they didn't believe in their platform"

Spoken like a true sheep. I'm guessing you would have been one of the countless thousands rallying around the fuhrer yelling "Seig heil!" in the 30's?

    continued..

  • do you know anything about hitler? apparently not. what "ordeal" did he put himself through? spoken like a true asshole.

  • neognostic: Alas, your stupidity knows no bounds. I was quoting you, my dear.

You said, mon ami: "the man came up from nothing and dragged himself to where he is today...i mean no one would put themselves through such a trying ordeal if they didn't believe in their platform."

Maybe you should open a history book before you make yourself look like a bigger fool :)

  • neognostic: ..continued

He argues that the upper and business classes of this country should have their "excess" profits ripped from them and given to the poor.

What a great humanitarian: using other people's money for charity, and his own for $400 haircuts.

  • Liberal: It's not his hard work (suing doctors for malpractice is hard work?) that's in question, it's his hypocrisy: he runs around like Al Gore telling everyone how to live their lives yet hardly follows his own advice.

Wasn't it Al Gore who has a 30,000 dollar utilities bill every year? And isn't it Edwards building a 20,000 square foot home while demanding that the rich pay for everyone else's healthcare?

  • all politicians are wealthy! hello?!

  • gnostic: "all politicians are wealthy! hello?!"

tsk tsk, calm down, no need to get antsy.

It's sad that you're an apologist for a man who champions the lower classes and poverty stricken, yet he builds himself a 30,000 square foot house (oh I'm sorry, "only" 28,000) and demands the rest of us pay to uplift the downtrodden.

The sign of a truly generous man is one who uses other people's money for charity.

    How nice.

  • Most are 'rich' as compared to let's say the homeless. Perhaps you are willing to sell all your posessions and give them to the poor?

  • feminine: "compared to the homeless"

When you're building a custom 28,000 square foot home you're rich relative to anyone.

"Perhaps..give your possessions to the poor?"

Not me, John Edwards. He talks continually about how evil corporations and the rich ought to foot the bill for healthcare, child support, etc. for the poor and down trodden, yet he's hardly out handing blank checks to charity, is he? It's a contradiction on his part, not those of us who believe you should keep what you earn.

  • I don't really care what politicians posess none of them are a savior and poor as Mother Teresa was. I do care that they slap corporations. The rich are getting richer and the poor poorer, that is sure. Globalization hurts everyone except these 'elites'.

  • feminine: Listen to the inanity of your comments: "they slap corporations. The rich are getting richer" Rich like, let's say, John Edwards? Your lord and savior?

It's been shown time and again that the distribution of wealth has barely changed over the last 400 years. No rich are getting richer, no poor poorer. In fact, in a free market (uh oh, evil corporations!) there is drive for competition, innovation and entrepreneurism and enterprise. All of which benefit the poor.

  • You REALLY need to look at statistics!

  • feminine: Why is it that you "care" that they "slap corporations"? Does it offend you that companies like Walmart are able to provide incredibly cheap goods (to those who need them) while making a profit at the same time?

"Globalization hurts everyone" yadda yadda, more wind and sound bites: the simply fact of the matter is that when businesses compete, innovate and produce low priced goods (that you need) we all win.

  • You must inform yourself better.

  • feminine: "You must inform yourself better." Then by all means: enlighten me.

  • I highly recommend to read Part II: External Trade: Capital Destroying Capital, The enforcers of Unequal Trades. in..Economic Democracy: THe political struggle for 21st centuy (4th edition, 2005) by Dr. J.W.Smith. They will not let me post the website here. but you can google "The Institute for Economic Democracy (IED)to find their website.

Really, the entire site consists of meticulous research, scholarly journals. Have a happy 4th!

  • feminine: That's not an argument, in fact it isn't even debate. Bring up a point, make propositions, defend them, and find a conclusion. Don't pass the buck.

But, seeing where you're coming from, just the name "Institute for Economic Democracy" oozes with contradiction. What democracy are we talking about? Which freedoms, pray tell? The freedom to have the government (the ultimate corporation) take control of all the markets, production, etc. of the country?

    tsk tsk.

  • I'm sorry, I totally lack the time for a debate with you. Currently working on my master's degree in International Relations. Sorry-Linda

  • feminine: "I totally lack the time for a debate with you"

    Nice cop out.

"Currently working on my master's degree in International Relations"

Hmm..a BS degree. How quaint. Study charts and contrived nonesense and think you know the whole world.

I'd have more respect for you if you gave an actual argument instead of shying away from every issue.

  • Number one, it's a Master's Degree, and number two, I don't care if you have respect for me. Number three, like I said, I don't have time to educate you---don't feel the need to prove my arguments to another person other than my superiors, atm. Besides, believe what you want?

  • feminine: "I don't have time to educate you"

Then why, pray tell, start a debate to begin with?

BS meaning "bull shit" not Bachelor of Science.

  • I wish I had the whole program to link to, please post the entire event for us bloggers out there who want to bring the issues out.

  • I'd like to know what Gore would say, since it looks hopeful he may be joining the race.

  • I share some of the goals of Sojourners, although I am not a member of the organization. I do get their e-mails. I attended this forum. Both Sojourners and John Edwards are leading on the issue of poverty. I think they're forcing the other candidates to deal with the issue, which they haven't paid a lot of attention to in the past. Partly because of my concern on the issue of poverty, I am an Edwards supporter. John is the only one who has a broad range of specific proposals on the issue.

  • I watched the forum last night in its entirety and the interviews with the remaining democratic candidates on Paula Zahn's program. I enjoyed the revealing dialogue and hope that these types of conversations continue across the country. Issues of social importance that meet at the intersection of Faith and public policy need regular attention with honest examination. Congrats to Jim and the Sojo/Call to Renewal team for all of your hard work in organizing last night's program.
