  • Ok, after some internet research and some luck, I came across a youtube documentary about Chuck Guillory, Harry Choates, and Iry Lejeune. In that video, my questions were answered as to why DL, Doc, Marc, and Ann were playing Jolie Blond like this. It turns out that this was the original version of Harry Choates the way he played it on his fiddle when he cut the Jolie Blond record. When Jolie Blond was cut by Mr. Choates, the Texas swing style had infiltrated Cajun music almost completely.

  • What the heck??!!! Jolie Blon played in the key of F on a C accordion. Beautiful and unheard of. So greatful one of Marc Savoy's closely guarded secrets was captured. I wonder why it was done that way. To accomodate DL's singing, or to accomodate the fiddle player, or just to be tricky and different, did he learn it that way? What? What? What?!!!!!!!

For you accordion players out there.....I got here first. Haha. I will be the one to copy this style. You need to find something else.

  • There's a little more in the library. There are earlier posts of other performances in different locations from this 1979 Folk Festival.

  • This is really awesome. When was this? Do you have more of this?
