@enkelille89 Yes, this song is on an album. The album is "One for All." Instead of the hand flute, they had acclaimed harmonica player Toots Thielman do the intro and melody for the first part of the song. During this part, TRG does background vocals/harmonies. Then for the second half of the song (equivalent to 2:52 in the live version above), they sing the melody and harmonies. Album can be found on singers.com Enjoy!
i cant find this on itunes but i did find their group. do you by chance know what cd this song would be under? we r doing this song for choir and i absolutly love the swedish/finnish version. :)
Nice. My school sang this in the 2008-09 choral Project at york university. The translation from the peice we learned was a little different, but it was fun.
@Greenapplehill thats true but it did however really fast spread to the swedish speaking villages in Finland and later to Sweden itself. but both Åland and Finland were from the beginning Swedish.
not the best version i have heard... by far.

I'm afraid that they haven't recorded this song.
Live versions are the only documents.

They are awesome, but the hand playing is out of tune and sounds horrible =)
Really impressive vocal skills though.

dont u think it sounds better like that?.....i makes feel like an man playin with a natural instrument from the 650 DC.....?
nilsong 2 years ago
It's not out of tune at all - it's just a different scale. He's imitating the style/scale of of Swedish folk-music cattle calls/songs (kulning).
platypusfrenzy 2 years ago
It´s not a Swedish folk-music song,
it´s a Ålandic folk-music song.

So it's a dilemma how to define this beautiful folc-song we have.

Who can sail without the wind?
Who can row without oars?
Who can part from their friend,
Without shedding tears?
I can sail without the wind,
I can row without oars,
But I can't part from my friend
Without shedding tears.
Here is the English translation.
