We're playing the logo game and my older sister asked a question about this song and none of my other siblings knew what the hell the song was lol now we can't stop singing the song haha awesome!
I remember this commercial very well from 1977 (I was 8 years old). I much prefered the mounds because I didnt really care for the almonds in the other one. Though I dont care for dark choclate that the mounds one was covered in. I much prefer milk chocolate then and now. If only they covered the mounds bar with milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate, then theyve got something!
The jockey is Kevin Daly who immigrated from County Tyrone, Ireland when he was 5. He grew up in the Tacony section of Philadelphia and was a jockey from the early 60's to the 80's. He rode at Keystone Park in Bensalem amoung other places up and down the east coast and in the mid-west. He has 4 grown kids and is now retired living on the road. Posted by his son Shawn.
@sedaly9 - Shawn - great to hear about some local Philly history involved in this commercial! (Yes, my screen name honors Richie Ashburn)
Hope your dad is doing OK - can he stay away from racetracks in his retirement? For those unfamiliar, Keystone Park is now known as Parx Casino and Racetrack.
The cool part is the jockey stunt. I remembered seeing it back in the late 70's and never forgot it. Great to see again, and i wonder who the jockey was.
I didn't realize that this commercial was quite so old, but of course I remember it, especially the hook line ("sometimes you feel like a nut") and the background singers saying "yeah yeah yeah"...
Peter Paul Almond Joy - it stands for the Holy Spirit. If you've met Jesus face to face, you'll get it. On the physical plane, the sugar will kill your teeth.
This jingle has remained unchanged for a really long time (except I guess it's not "Peter Paul" Mounds and "Peter Paul" Almond Joy" anymore. I don't care for this candy myself, but it's a catchy jingle. When was the last time they used it?
Unless, of course, it's Mexican food. Mexican food from Mexico is delicious. Seriously though -- will there be a way to tell by the packaging the origin of the goods? I think they're required to write "made in Mexico" on imports from there.
I was 9 when this spot came out. Holy cow, if we had a dollar for everytime my freinds & I sang this song. Forget that...I'd take a dollar for every time our parents told us to shut up about it! That and the "I'm a Pepper" song!
@HGbunny i was 7 & yeah I remeber kids saying this in school all the time it was a Good jingle, commercial song. 70's TV these are great to see again.
I remember this well. I was 12 in 1977 and glued to the tube, like everyone else. Funny thing - today, both Almond Joy and Mounds are considered junk food.
Almond Joy and Mounds are now Hershey products, which is a shame because, as someone from that area, I'm boycotting their products because they are shutting down some of their plants in PA to send the jobs to a new plant in Mexico.
On a lighter vein, I used to joke that this was the most bisexual commercial in history. "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't!"
"Almond Joy's got nuts, Mounds don't" - Almond Joy would refer to a man, Mounds would refer to a woman's breasts! ;-) ;-)
my dad and mom keep singing this it is so annoying but it is mostly my dad singing it.

Yes I agree--this is the definitive version. I wish they would air this commercial today.

This is the best rendition of this jingle. The later versions with different singers (and regular people singing it) weren't as good.

I could be wrong, but I think they still use the hook 'sometimes you feel like a nut', but not the jingle so much.
