  • Deen is the real Journey¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • GET RID OF ARNEL AND LET DEEN SING THEM ALL

  • He sings better than arnel pineda . Way better

  • Amazing their own drummer can sing this song so superbly

  • what does he hold up in the beginning ? and does anyone know where to find what cymbals he uses?

  • @acrimsonbaby it's a picture of his son. the videos I've seen the cymbals are Zildjian

  • waaay better than steve

  • Amazing singer!!!! Perry you still in my heart but Castronovo is a good, or even better, than you!!!!!

  • amazing drummer amazing singer

  • deen's version gives me goose bumps, i ♥ me some castronovo!!! :)

  • YUP DEEN IS AWESOME!!!! GREAT DRUMMER TOO!! HE SAVED THEIR BUTT ONCE OR TWICE....

  • this guy is so pro :P

    epic skills!

  • Aaawww.

  • great singer..but he would rather be a great drummer

  • Neal is looking at Dean and thinkng, "Dude, why the hell don't you sing for us" ..

  • This guy is OUTSTANDING!!!!!

  • WOW!

  • Oh my God !!!! fabulous voice Deen

  • @gluchnurse, wonderfully said.

  • I love Deen Castronovo and Arnel Pineda!

  • @dckrattiger

I am fairly sure it was a picture of his baby son (not Steve Perry, sorry Perry lovers), thats why he kisses it and taps his heart with it. And yes Deen was doing the singing

  • Whoever shot that video sucked at the end. Deeno is awesome!

  • damn deen this sing this song perfectly but it will always be one of steve perrys songs & is that a pic of steve perry that he holds up

  • Comment removed

  • Man, I wish that Deen would be the singer instead of AP so that they wont bash AP any longer..the guy never did any harm to anyone to be treated like that.

  • @xenocentricism While I have no desire to ever see anyone but Perry sing these songs, I agree with you that no one should be bashing Arnel for simply making music, working hard to support his family, and being a decent, humble, guy. And Deen is very talented, & doing a creditable job. He just isn't Perry. Bottom line, I don't think anyone should be chastised for loving music & plying their craft. But the magic created by Perry not only in singing, but in the songwriting chemistry just isn't here

  • OMG...HE IS AWESOME!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!

He will be my reason for seeing JOURNEY!!!!!

  • His voice is sooooo amazing! Unfortunately his voice is starting to go down hill already (just watch some of his Revelations live videos or see him live this year). It's sad actually to see him go downhill like Steve Augeri, unlike Augeri his voice decline is being helped move faster by his heavy smoking. STOP THAT SMOKING DEEN!!!!

  • Its just not fair that one person has all that talent! Deen is Journeys MVP.

  • It's incredible that a drummer (which requires a physicality and musicianship on its own) can sing a song from probably the most recognizable voice in rock and roll history (with a range that is one of a kind) is ASTOUNDING.

Deen, from one drummer to another, that's killer!

  • I think Deen Castronovo should be the lead singer for Journey, not some karaoke singing wannabe. I have been listening to Journey since 1978 and I still LOVE THEM. You have an amazingly beautiful voice Deen.

  • What a great performance and love to his family!!!! Dean you are awsome

  • I LOVE HIIIIIIIIIIM!!!!!!

  • Oh he is SO the bomb! How can a real human being sound like that?!?! Que voz ...angel

  • gave me goosebumps.....crazy great

  • You don't have to publish my last comment. I just wanted to state that Deen can sing and play simultaneously. Check out "after the fall" Deen vocals

  • He would be the only reason i would see journey! (As the singer)

  • His tone and range is so much like Steve Perry... crazy good man!! I wish I half of his vocal ability!!!

  • Im glad you dont have to show I.D. before pressing the dislike button. I would hunt down all four of you and pound your faces in.

  • Deen, you rock! Look up Journey Mother Father Manila 2009!

  • He sings like god....!!! wow

  • I like ARNEL as a singer, honestly, but if he perfected that way of singing, he could spare his energy.

  • I hope they'll come to realize that Deen's voice suits Journey's songs better than Arnel's voice, not to discredit Arnel in any way. Arnel has amazing talent and an extraordinary voice too. Deen should be the lead singer IMO.

  • Hmm..all the best singers tend to go sharp. Cool.

  • @warpfaber save cash? if deen sing and drums, thats 2 checks for deen.

  • hot drummer!!!!!

  • I grew up in the same neighbor hood as deen in Keizer, hung with him as a young teen a few times. He used to have a band where he was the lead singer and drummer then too....check out his kid kyle Castonovo

  • Dean should be Journey's lead singer.

  • How could anyone dislike this. Amazing.

  • I had no idea he is a singer. Excellent!

Steve Perry is a really good drummer, as well.

  • he's better than arnel, he should sing half of the songs at least

  • Comment removed

  • Git da fuck outta here!!! That is awesome. Jeez, Deen....anything you AREN'T amazing at???

  • Comment removed

  • who are the 3 people who hit dislike? i will punch yall in the face!

  • Rock and Roll with heart and soul!

  • This guy has a phenominal voice... and what a drummer... ace

  • I absolutely LOVE this!!! Deen should sing more often!!

  • mrphoenix30 incredible!!!

  • really? this is better!!! Duh. better better better

  • I was a fan of Dean back in the McAlpine\Cacophony years....but now---I understand why Dean is far beyond anything I potentially understood about his talent.

He is the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot combined.

  • What a monstrous talent!!

  • what a talented man....

  • Simply amazing Deen. To sing as well as you do is something few can do. To play drums as well as you do is again somethign few can do. To do both at the level that you do is something that is reserved for very elite company. You are truly blessed with amazing talent. Arnel could take a few pointers from you on how to sing trademark Journey songs.

  • so emotional and inspiring, my favorite drummer sure can kick ass:)

  • Looks like 3 asses missed the LIKE button!!!!

  • @RWC5150 it's his son:)

  • i know alot of people judge Journey and compare steve perry to the others but in my opinion alot of their signature sound comes from neil schoens great guitar playing also

  • one of the best drummers ever

  • was he singing lead all night long?

  • whats on the picture he holds up?

  • @RWC5150 I'm sure his kid. "The road ain't no place to start a family" get it.

  • he's one HEAVY HITTER and ONE HELL OF A SINGER!

  • try this one with arnel deen ...great..

  • Unbelievably talented........

  • wow sh** he's amazing!!!

  • deen will forever be the best drummer who plays from his heart and soul. love that guy

  • This guy is solid. Pure emotion. Not a cardboard cutout of some guy playing drums but rather an emotion rich energy wave. I love Journey and it was hard to picture Journey without Steve Perry but I must say, as I get older and realize that bands and musicians will not always be the same, this version of Journey really works for me!!

  • i think we found steve perry's replacement, deen is incredible so much like steve perry

  • Arnel is great, but, The best interpretation of this song is when Deen is on vocals! It has way more power and energy,..and soul, when the D man sings it!!

I love Arnel, But on this one, DEEN ROCKS!

  • Deen is great on the Emotional Ballads! This, Mother Father, and Still They Ride. Arnel is great on the fun songs. Journey is so lucky to have both of these amazing voices.

  • Amazing. What incredible talent.

  • I can play the intro to this on my piano and im 11. my music teacher brags about me :)

  • Journey needs to have DPA, Neuman or Crown make a special headset mic for Deen regardless of the cost so that he can get more of the thickness and richness of a large diaprham studio condensor mic and have exceptional resistance to bleed through from the drums and cymbals, and Deen would sound simply amazing. Add this one to the list of songs that Deen outshines Arnel on.

  • i went to see Journey back a few years ago at the Shoreline Ampitheatre in Cupertino, and that is when Jeff Scott Soto replaced Augeri on the tour.

Deen sung a few songs including this one and I was amazed. I think they should contact Steve Smith and bring him back onboard and let Deen take over the singing duties. But I don't think Deen would give up his drums for that. Too bad.

  • Fantastic performer!

  • When Deen sings Perry's vocals on this song and others sucn as Still they Ride, Mother Father, and Patiently, he is having fun, he is relaxed and he is singing from his soul. Deen is blessed with a level of talent that few have. He is not only filling in for the incredibly talented Steve Smith whos drum playing is a part of the trademark journey sound, and he also fills in for Steve Perry tackling some of Perrys most difficult work and doing an outstanding job of both.

  • That's amazing how Dean can sing and playing drum. But everybody have to watch him on Mother Father.

  • truly amazing

  • I suspect that picture is his son. I'm a drummer who's 5 days into a three week tour, and I miss my son terribly. Thank god for skype. He's 2 1/2 years old, and imitates everything I do on screen.

  • ... I was already impressed with this guy singing/playing "Mother Father", but this bastard seams to sing anything gorgeously! Damn it!

  • What does he hold up? Who's picture?

  • Like Superman!!!! More power to you Deen...I am an avid fan of yours...

  • yeah Deen is closer to steve perry's voice than arnel is. i mean arnel is a great singer but when deen sings and drums and sounds like steve perry it's kinda hard to not miss that

  • @TheGraduationOf316 I agree! He sounds so much like Steve Perry, its amazing.

  • What an AWESOME Drummer, and singer.

  • love him!!!!

  • @filthyboy2 I love him too!

  • They didn't need Arnel cuz Deen does an amazing job!

  • @cohen11731

the only reason i can think of that they got Arnel was because Dean prolly didn't want to sing on a nightly basis. he is really better than Arnel though. and in my honest opinion, Steve don't have alot on him in the way of vocal talent. Dean can belt these songs as good as Steve, all while playing the drums. AMAZING TALENT!!!

  • Impressive...........

  • Have to say first that Steve Perry will always be my favorite vocalist that Journey's ever had or ever will have, but I'm SO impressed with Deen! And that he can sing while drumming---incredible!

  • It just seems weird to have journey as a 4 man group

  • if you ask me, he sounds more like augieri. he's really good, and certainly sounds like perry sometimes, but i think he sounds more like augieri. arnel is still my favorite replacement. i do like how at concerts they have deen sing some songs. its a good combination. just my opinion though. LONG LIVE JOURNEY!!!

  • wow he sounds almost exactly like perry. amazing just amazing

  • Deen sings this song just as good as Perry. AMAZING!!!!!!

  • he had to have turned down the offer to be lead singer full time, he is better than any of the replacements so far.

  • Wonder if the problem is that visually it is difficult to both drum and have the same impact on the audience from behind the kit as a frontman does. Phil Collins ended up in front of the mike as he got more popular, Karen Carpenter did the same. May be difficult to connect with the audience when there is no one 'up front' when doing an entire concert that way...

  • shit what a voice... and he's a drummer...

  • This is one of my Favorite songs from Journey and Steve perry sings it so wonderful, but Deen just made this his own.. What A Wonderful Voice. Love both of these singers.. Kudos.. why did he not stay with Journey?

  • he is still with the band

  • Man, thank you for uploading this one. Really awesome!

  • Saw them in Rockford, IL about a month ago and wished Deen had been singing a few songs on lead. Saw him do this years ago in Milwaukee and it was incredible. I believe he holds up a picture of his family in the song. Mother, Father and Faithfully should be Deen's songs!

  • Amen. Deen is amazing and regardless of the Arnel hype, should keep his signature songs.

  • what was that he held up during the song?

  • Most likely, a picture of one of his loved ones at home -- he holds it up when he says, "They say that the road ain't no place to start a Family".

  • I always liked Deen's drumming, but his voice is absolutely amazing! I didn't know he could sing like this. I know, I may be late to the game, but he went up untold notches in my book. What a talent!

  • drummin and singin at the same time. That the kind of musicmanship I like.

  • I just saw these guys live, and I was blown away...... this vid doesn't do him justice. He sang Mother Father and was perfect, not to mention he is drumming the whole time...he was to far down in the mix here. And by the way... Arnel was amazing.... he hit Steve's notes and then took them higher and higher all night long!

  • Whys his left bass drum smaller then his right?

  • he doesnt use the left bass drum...just for show. he uses a double pedal instead, why...i dont know

  • skyrider316.... this wasn't in Salt Lake was it?

  • Honestly, I'm not sure. Sorry.

  • this is in the city of ames, Iowa, i believe

  • I saw them a few weeks ago in Shreveport, LA. I was stunned when the drummer started singing. He was great. Arnel was just incredible also. It was quite an experience.

  • We just saw Journey in Atlantic City and felt the same way you did! HE should be lead vocals!!!!

  • i'm forever yours elizabeth!

  • AMEN!!!!! Why dont the other fans face the facts

  • what ever year the greatest hits live is, 82 i tihnk, he gargles so bad. find that song and listen to it close. im just sawing it wasnt flawless, dont get me wrong i dont hate sp, im just saying hes not in anyway perfect. hes prob one of the best improvisors in the music business

  • live verson from grt hits live

  • michael sweet from stryper held a note at the end of the song in god we trust which was higher then any note sp ever sang. i am a sing/vocalist and went to college for 4 years for vocal singing

  • michael sweet is one of my favorite singers too but now he hit those high notes anymore, he could hardly hit the notes in Honestly, that was then and some people voice change as they age. Even steve perry cant sing like he used to back in the days.

  • Yah. Deen is extremely talented. Arnel and Steve are different. simple as that. I am an Opera Singer....I know that all three can hold their own. All three sing very well and THUS is why they still have voice. Journey is Journey. with or without Steve. He was a bit too much of a diva anyway...thats NOT what a band is about.

  • Dude i rather hear him sing then piniada

  • Did I say there was a better singer? Robert Plant was a very High singer, he hit double Cs. Perry hit a B flat in Homemade Love, I think that's his highest recorded. Brad Delp sang very high, SteveWalsh, Geddy Lee, all tenors. And the guy who set the record for highest male note got to A off the piano. And to be an adult, that is, have seen Journey twice in the eighties, I can't believe you sit on there and trashtalk people making more money than you, unless they don't, which is worse.

  • Can you?????? He used falsetto sometimes, not all the time. And there were higher singers than Perry. He was just more famous. Don't get me wrong, Perry is my idol, but seriously dude, what good are you really doing by posting comments like these? Give it a rest and grow up.

  • Wow this is another Don Henley or Phil Collins.... Is he still with Journey and the new singer?

  • From Bad English to Hardline to Journey I never had ANY idea that this guy could sing this well.

  • im a drummer, playing and singing can be hard, i can do back up vocals but not sing, he's really awesome

  • Deen is a great guy and Drum Master I respect him, can sing well no daubt it.. great job...!

  • Two great STEVE's! Must be the name, huh? LOL!

  • So Deen must be the voice behind Pineda (on harmonies/backing vocals) on those 11 re-recordings of classic Journey songs (originally sung by Steve Perry -- should have been left alone)? I knew I heard someone with a better voice and higher vocal range than Pineda, but I thought they cheated and mixed in Perry's voice for lift and sustain on the higher notes. If Don Henley could drum and sing at the same time, so could Deen!

  • he is the facking best, he sings en drums !

  • STEVE SMITH MORON !

  • Steve Who ????

  • This astounds me. How aren't people going nuts for Never Walk Away? I can't tell you how ecstatic I felt when I heard that song; it was how I learned of the Revelation album at all, and I couldn't wait for June to come so that I could purchase it.

  • After All These Years is there best song on the new album. I think it is one of their best other than Faithfully.

  • The Best...

  • journey's best drummer!!

  • journeys best drummer!! and what a singer

  • Dean is the man!

  • Castronovo is a great talent!

  • i think everyone needs to chill out... and just knoe that journey rocks... period.

  • what picture was Deen holding??

  • omg! I LOVED this! I have been a fan of Deen Castronovo as a drummer since I first heard him on Tony MacAlpine's "Maximum Security" record in the 80s. And he sounds absolutely AMAZING on vocals here!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

  • wow, and he does that for hours

  • I agree Quint- Deen has a very good voice

good range and much better tone than the new singer-Though people have given me negative marks i did say that Deen is much better than Arnel whats the problem there- he interprets Journey songs better than any other singer theyve had-i guess some people cant take honesty and live in denial what i like about Deen is that he sounds enough like Perry to make the songs work without copying Perry-the new singer sounds nothing like Perry and has bad tone-

  • America would have more respect for a graceful rendition by Castronovo rather than a bad version of Steve. This isn't really a Steve sound-a-like attempt. It's just great art from a drummer doing vocals. I would consider hearing this in concert.

  • Well, in my opinion, you can tell that Deen's music training is what is at play over here. He is not only talented, he has the training. He is an artist. Though it doesn't sound like Perry, he doesn't sound like he's copying, but rather creating a whole new thing while being respectful of the art in a way. It's a skillful interpretation, he is great with the notes. He knows how to use his voice gracefully. That's it, he's graceful. That's why I like it.

  • Journey`s on the road again! Be sure to look for tickets in your area soon. I`m looking froward to seeing them in Seattle again this year.....

  • wow singing and drumming at the same time

  • OMG.....brings me to tears, always has, always will....

  • Deen needs to be fronting journey.....ENOUGH SAID..as much as i LOVE Steve..Deen is the ONLY one good enough to be up front now..

  • can you believe this guy,,, it's flawless and he is the FUCKING drummer!!!

  • Dang, this is probably the best of the post-Perry Journey singers. I like it.

  • By the way....I don't have the same opinion about Deen as I do Arnel. I think Deen has a beautiful voice and he nails this song! If anyone has come close to singing a Journey song the way it should be done, it's Deen!

  • Does anyone know what he shows in hand at the beginning of the video?

Sorry my english* I am Brazilian!

  • well at least we agree on one thing, i could listen to deen sing all day too...peace

  • I also think the sound quality makes a difference...because I've observed in some videos where Arnel was singing and I said to myself WTF...the sound was just crappy, and it others he just blew me away. But as you say, each to his own...and yep I also listen to Steve Perry and have nothing against him..but his time with Journey has passed...the group has chosen to evolve in a slight different direction...still wanting the Perry sound yet not wanting it from what I can see..

  • To be completely honest, I like them both, Arnel and Deen... I think a fair compromise would be to let Arnel do all the hard rocking songs as that's where his talent seems to lie, and let Deen do the ballads...and hopfully that will begin to please everyone. They'll still get a touch of the old Steve Perry sound a-like nostalgia in Deen and the new evolved hard rocking sound in Arnel... which I tend to gravitate to not just with Journey...peace folks...

  • I'd love to hear Deen release a solo album where he drums and sings; maybe with S
