@Katiereimer66 That is very nice to hear. tell people to set out the trap, but I haven't heard of anyone who had success with it recently. Certainly better than having to cut and patch holes in the walls. Good work!
@JenniferDarkness Stay calm. If you know where the hole is you have a good chance of getting the hamster back. Just set up a hamster trap right outside the hole. More than likely, within a day or two the hamster will come back out of the hole for the food. To make the trap: put some fresh carrots or fruit or lettuce in a small bucket. Make a staircase of books and then tip the bucket on its side. Hamster goes up books, down into bucket but can get back out. Good luck.
@hihojeff did you hear her inside the wall consistently before you made the hole? I heard my hamster inside the wall last night but before I could figure out where to make a hole, I stopped hearing her (and the downstairs neighbor turned on some music, maybe scared her off). It's now been about 12 hours and no sound anymore... not much but possible little noises all night after that. I'm not sure if she's moved on to some other area. What do you think - might she still be there?
@achanta63 There is a hole in our wall in the basement, behind the washing machine. It was put there to work on the pipes. I think she got in through that hole. But she made it through all the walls in the house and even into the attic at one point.
@funwithsun1 -- First, don't panic! If you can see it and put food by the hole, it will come out. You might have to wait a while, they can go for several days without food. If you can, put the water bottle spout into the hole, so it can get some water, that is most important. In fact, that is what got our hamster out. We gave her water and then when I pulled it back, she came out to get more.
My hamster is stuck in the ceiling in my kitchen I can hear her scratching in the walls. There are no holes to get her our (lights, vents, cabinets). What should I do? Shes been missing for 5 days now and I don't think theres food or water inbtwn my walls... I really don't want her to die and have to smell her rotting in my kitchen walls:(
I'm sorry I just got this note now. You should go to just underneath where you heard her and cut a hole in the ceiling. Most ceilings can be repaired, just like a wall. (save the piece you cut out). Good luck.
My hamster is now stuck inside the kitchen wall. I can clealy hear his bitting sound but I dont know how to get it out? I live in an apartment and I rent this unit.
I dont know if theres any way to not damage the wall?
or this is the only way I can do now?
Please help me..i really dont know what to do...Thank you in advance..
Sorry, just got back online and saw your post. Unfortunately, you don't have a lot of options:
1) Find the hole where it got in and put some food outside the hole to lure it out.
2) Cut a hole very near to the sound to get it out.
3) Let it die.
You can repair the hole; no one will ever know. My living room wall looks perfect. You cut it out with a keyhole saw and/or razor blade. SAVE THE PIECES. Then you can use some patch tape and spackle to put the piece back. Then paint. It works great.
hi, you are so brilliant. i didn't even think of that and i think my hamster is dead by now, and i don't know what to do! no actually i'm sure my hamster is dead because we've had a crazy amount of flies lately, and i'm sure that's because the body is decomposing inside the wall. and i feel horrible that i didn't take action sooner, but now i'ts too late! please give me some advice on what to do now.. my whole family's going hysterical. help!!!!!!
I am sorry to hear about that. We had a mouse die in our wall and the room stunk for 2 weeks! Eventually though it desiccates an with no more moisture, the smell (and the flies) go away. So at this point, you just have to ride it out.
My hamster is in the wall so far back that i cant see her...my parents are afraid of my hamster and obviously cannot help me...this keeps happening and i had to tape the cage everywhere, and she still finds a way out.
Hamsters love to escape. I actually built a wooden pen around the cage area that was about 14 inches high and sat on the floor. That way when she made it out of the cage, she was stuck in the pen.
The easiest way to get her is to put out the pail trap. Make stairs with some books to bucket tipped diagonally with food in it. They go up the books, slide into the bucket and can't get back out of the bucket. Good luck.
Thanks! I found my hamster! (acutally a while ago, I just havent been on lately...) She wasnt in the wall where she usually is (surprising) she was in the back of my sisters closet...She has piles of food & was trying to did a hole in the wall! Good thing I found her in time...
Amazing little critters, ain't they? She was all ready to make a little home for herself in the closet. Let's see how long you can keep her inside the cage now...
Amazing! You got it out I guess. I wonder how it got in, those systems are usually sealed up, with grills on all openings. Did it squeeze through the grill?
The noises she made were amazing. I had never heard a hamster make such sounds. It really sounded like crying! I was very happy I didn't hurt her and we got her out safely.
Thanks so much for this video. I live in Manhattan and my hamster was trapped in the ceiling of my apartment. Thinking of your video, when I heard her I cut a hole in the drywall and she came out. Now she's resting and getting back to normal. Thanks again!
actually i'm glad to know there are still people like you that would really take time to look for the lost pet... im sure your hammie is very happy to finally be in your arms again... :)
She broke out of her cage and was in our basement. We think she crawled behind the washing machine and got into the wall through the hole for the pipes. From there she climbed inside our walls. She was in there for 5 days going up 2 stories to the bedroom ceiling, and across the whole house from garage to living room, until she fell into the LR wall and got caught between 2 studs. That's where I got her out.
Great Video. My hamnster has 2 days stuck in the wall, and I cannot hear her anymore, I think she is Death I hope she is not. Thanks to the video, I will try to do the same if she is alive yet.
I am sorry to hear about your hamster. I actually made 3 holes to try and get to her. The first was in the garage and I managed to feed her a carrot, but it was concrete and I couldn't get the hole wide enough. Second hole was in our closet, but she didn't come back there. Then I made this one and got her.
Do not feel sorry about it. Actually I made 2 holes. one in the closet, but she was not there, very strange because that was the place I hear her scratching the wall.
after 2 days, I made another hole in a storage room in the basement, she was there! She was not scared, but it was very ancious to get out. when I took her in my hand she was shaking.
Great Video. My hamnster has 2 days stuck in the wall, and I cannot hear her anymore, I think she is Death I hope she is not. Thanks to the video, I will try to do the same if she is alive yet.
When we got her out she was literally half the size she was when she escaped. I am happy to report that she has plumped up and is still healthy to this day. (She has even tried escaping a few more times - but we caught her before she got in the walls.)

How she was moving up and down and through the walls so effectively, I'll never know. Rodents!
My hamster was stuck in the walls once then I set a trap out and he was in the trap this morning and I put him back in his cage

Tell your mum that if it dies in the walls it can stink for up to 2 weeks! That should convince her to let you cut a hole!
