Wow, we totally have the same hair type. My hair is a bit shorter, though. May I ask what, if any, heat protectant you use before blowing out? I would like to do more blowouts, but am afraid of doing damage.

What to do-embrace it. I've been natural for 2 years and I still have shrinkage! LoL! I was complaining about not to long ago...my hair stretches to armpit length but my last twists were to my ears by the end of the week! Enjoy each length and all that it can do...you'll look back and have fond memories.

I'm so happy to find someone with my same hair texture. I just went natural and made the big chop in Jan 09. I've been braiding it down and wearing quick weaves glued to a spandex cap. My hair has grown so much and is soooo thick and dry. I went to a "natural hair care salon" today to have my ends clipped. I asked the stylist "what type of texture do you think I have". She had no idea about classifying hair as 4abcd. She said you're probably thinking about weave colors or something.
damn thats some hardcore shrinkage!!! i love my natural hair but it suckx how our hair have to be twice as long just to show half as much growth... i wish there was a way to stretch my hair without heat or chemicals.
I stretch my hair by braiding it in 8-12 braids while wet and continue to braid or twist nightly while dry it elongates more and more daily. After 24-48 hours my real length shows.
Have you ever tried twist outs or banding it? I do twistouts all the time and i LOVE it!! The banding is ok, but i only did it once. Braids help too :)

Shrinkage is the third dimension of natural hair styling. Between shrunken, stretched, and straight you can get SO many different looks. I love my shrinkage (95% of the time).

I took advantage of shrinkage when my twa grew out. I knew I could make it look twa with aloe gel...knowing it was far from twa.
But yes you are right it is the third dimension of natural hair styling...how do you take advantage of it?
