Hi, I came across a new Waltzing Classics CD last week and decided to purchase! I just wanted to share with you as its a great listen with the opportunity to explore further dance steps! You can check it out on the classic fm website...enjoy!
Without meaning to sound arrogant, everyone should attend a proper Viennese Ball in the imperial palace, it's breath-taking. If you're into ballroom dance, there's no better place in the world- plus it's gorgeous. I miss Wien
@foamulator Actually, there's two ways to dance every dance it: the international style and the American Smooth style. International is the one we all think of = spin, spin, spin and spin a little more with little to no time to breath! (Trust me: I take lessons and VW still leaves me more breathless than any other dance) American Smooth style, though, is like the slow waltz with breaks and positions and crosses and separations and such, only faster, but still not as fast as the International one
I don't get how u do the back side together, and foward side together without keep going to the left, I mean how does the guy do to turn and keep going without colliding against the girl??
It is very basic, but done to a Viennese song. And covercalls, bronze is a level of dance, the American style is called smooth. Also, I met the guy in San diego after the ucsd dance comp
Yes, it is a Viennese Waltz. He is teaching her slowly, as good teachers do. The cross stepping action is a compensation for the speed and rotation in Viennese Waltz so that you don't hit the floor with your face. If you only do the "basic", then you must have the cross step and rotation to get around the floor. If you do variations and actual dancing, then sometimes you don't need to.
@Sniffler09 It isn't a technically perfect Viennese for the reason you state, but she's a complete beginner.
Most good dance instructors will teach these steps so that a beginner can get used to the rhythm of the dance, most will only try forward (or back)-side-close.
Can't expect her to learn full rotations in a 3 and a half min segment. =P
@Mooseboy2358 hi:) I don't want to be a smartass or something, but please watch and compare these two videos: /watch?v=YcaYFLeKwJA and watch?v=Ve82-LCzXFI
the first is VV, the second is SW. the speed, steps and technique are not equal at all. the idea of movement is the same, BUT the viennese music is twice as fast! consequently you have less rise&fall and less figures, but it seems as there was more rotation. which is an optical illusion, its just faster;)
@Karachka this music is not a viennese waltz this is music composed by P.I tchykofskie and it is one of the movments from geoge balanchines "Seranade"
Sorry, but it is not a Viennese Waltz. Not even close. To begin with there was no rotation or no cross over step. Box step is a standard for the 'American style', commonly called Bronze. It is difficult to teach in two minutes what take many months to learn. Just a show thing for TV.

American "style" Viennese Waltz? Rubbish!
Labeling a classic with the word "style", american or otherwise, is sheer vanity.

This is certainly not a viennese waltz... in viennese waltz you turn 180 degreees per step they run 45-90...

@Mooseboy2358 You are completely missing the point...
The only difference between regular waltz and wiennese waltz is that u turn twice more in wiennese therefor this is just a regular waltz..
Sniffler09 1 year ago
@Sniffler09 Oh that's right.
The speed, steps and technique are exactly the same as each other!
I remember doing whisks and chassis in the Viennese all the time, forgot that the only difference between the two dances was the amount of rotation!
I now revert to my first comment.
Fail.

This is a very basic Viennese Waltz. He just simplified it enough for a beginner to do it without having to know anything about the dance.

it is actually vienesse waltz .. just she does the steps not right :D but the thing is that every dance school teaches it a little bit different

He MIGHT be gay cause you never know these days...I can't tell...
THIS lady has done this dance before. WHERE IS THE MUSIC????
Somehow I don't think that Johann Strauss Jr. meant it quite this way...
THIS IS A CHARLES GOUNOD WaltzFROM "FAUST" and it is not exactly what I would consider Viennese music. Charles Gounod was FRENCH but it was OK.
