I have searched everywhere on YouTube for a tut on how to make 1" Bottle Cap Images on Gimp. There are plenty for Photoshop, but not for Gimp. Could you please do a tutorial on how to make a 1" circle image using Gimp? I guess if I were really desperate, I'd read the documentation that goes along with the program, but nah! You need to make a new tutorial anyway, right?
If you don't want to do the tutorial, or if you think it will be awhile, could you give me the pointers by replying?
sepero, is there any way to create a circle picture as for a logo use? i have searched through net and working on PS but nothing!!! plz, if u know sth leave a comment....i don't want to have a square sized pic with a circle inside....i want a circled picture...thnx in advance
@TheSeperoShow thnx a lot for replying to me...so, i created my circle in the pic that i wanted but i don't see any feather option to ''Select'' tab...moreover, inverse is grey, meaning i cannot select it...all i want to do is to crop a piece of a photo to a circle, but when i save it it has a white left area around the circle...so it's actually a square in white colour except of the circled pic inside which is what i left from cropping...so i don't want this white area around the circle...
@Alexboooom ok...i found out how to do this...i had to transform it into png--and not saved as copy...i made lots of different saves...hopefully it worked like this...save as png and not a copy file...thnx for any help provided sepero!!!
could you post more videos about gimp? these are all very good. and also, i think the music is very good. if everyone complains, just turn it down a tad. dont listen to them. people on the internet can be so rude. they expect everything at once. you are very talented at gimp, and i would like to see more videos from you. by the way, i subscribed, too.
Just wondered if you could help. I made a graphic using your method, but the lines on the circle are not clean when printed out. Is there a way to crisp up the circle?
hehe the music is a LOT LESS WORSE than some learning videos I've listened to, but, U have a wonderful voice don't let the music over power it hehe. TY TY for this learning tool! Yahoo I need this
psydocgw -- Microsoft used to make a package called PhotoDraw. It had a lot of problems, and was never very popular, but it was at least pretty intuitive to use. GIMP is powerful, but the designers seem to have gone out of their way to make it counterintuitive. Something that should be simple (like drawing a circle or line, or pasting two images side by side) requires ridiculous amounts of effort. I use a mix of GIMP, PhotoDraw, and good old MS Paint. Each has its strengths.
Thanks for the tutorial, I agree there may need to be a shape tool of some sort. As it is open source, perhaps this can be coded. As you become familiar, you may see less of a need for a dedicated tool... but perhaps to assist newer uses it should be there.
Gimp is great for some things but takes a lot of work to learn. Is there something out there that is good for drawing? Maybe like the MS Paintbrush, but a little more power and flexibility?
Well, it doesn't suck, but the thing about the circle - I totally agree. They should make a polygon tool or something, than with max. 2 clicks turns in square, circle, triangle or whatever of the simple shapes you want.
Is it just me, or am I the only one sick and tired of clicking on instructional videos with techno music? Anyways. I do appreciate the instructions though.
I found another way to make a circle. Let's assume there's a white background and we want a black circle. Select the brush tool, select colour black, make a dot, select a smaller brush size based on how thick you want the border, select colour white, put another dot inside the black one. Makes a nice circle.
It would be cool to see it get some draw tools like MS Paint.
I love Gimp and use it all the time. I love Ubuntu. It is my dream to see Microsoft get a kick in the butt.
They sent my tech support job to India. It's not that these guys knew what they were doing. I asked one guy how much he made and he said $200 (US dollars) once per month.
That's what they call being better educated and more qualified.
Help me someone please.
How do you select an individual image and enlarge or shrink it without the whole page being altered?
Like you can do on MS paint, someone help me please, thanks.
Nice vid btw.

Word of caution: there are no circular images. There are images where corners are transparent, so that only a circle shows.
This is if you WANT to have JUST the border showing of the circle. Ie if you want to have a ball bounce in a game or something like that.

@Alexboooom
I can help you out with making a circle around a picture. The general idea is
1. create your circle
2. Select->Feather (make a faded edge, if you want)
3. Select->Invert (selects everything opposite the circle)
4. Edit->Cut

@uk2la99
Yes, you have to increase the resolution of the image before you create the circle. You can do that by using Image>Scale
I would recommend trying 200% of the original size.

this is what the GIMP makers were thinking:
"lets make really fucking complicated to draw a simple damn circle so nobody will know how to use it!" "great idea!"
nivlacoak 2 years ago
Its actually meant for editing not drawing....but I agree they shoulda added something less complicated like making a freaking circle ~.~
