@TheJosephca Yeah, I like it too! Here are some basic note on it which may answer any queries :D
A rocket stove is an efficient cooking stove using small wood fuel which is burned in a chamber containing a vertical chimney which ensures complete combustion prior to the flames reaching the cooking surface. The principles were described by Dr. Larry Winiarski from Aprovecho in 1982 developing into rocket mass heaters for homes. Thousands are produced for third world countries particularly slums.
@diddlidoi Liking the star trek reference! But yeah I know.... its was a horrible mistake!!! and now I have to put up with it and all these comments :P ahh well :L
@number1airsoftsniper I wish! Since my mistake of playing about with music changes after getting over 1000 views I haven't been able to change it back :/ I'm just hoping youtube will change this stupid feature so people can change the music on their videos after so few views, I mean come on youtube, 1000 views is hardly important to you!! Its now got 28000 and you still wont give me a partnership!!!
...I simply muted ...however, your stove is quite impressive...and inspiring...apparently, it has seen quite an enormous amount of use...tough li'l bugger...just th' size I'm after t' make...thanx!
@carcano38 :L err, no... I was playing about with the youtube music and didnt realise once you video goes over 1000 views you cant undo the music.... hence I put a vertion up without music throughout. If you like you could view my channel for far better homemade videos including PYRO, balistic, homemade spudguns, rubber band guns etc, racing a buggy offroad, and flying RC planes to name a few :D check it out :)
@daretohaveorangehair I know, I'm trying to get rid of it but my computer / youtube isnt letting me... and as its my highest viewing video the music is stopping me putting revenue adds on it which is really peeing me off :L grr!! Any help?!
Hi, very interesting design, but like others have said, I cannot really see reignition of smoke. Maybe you could make another vid about it, as I think it is the main feature that makes it an hybrid rocket/gas stove. Thanks!
@xInfected27x It helps if the lid is airtight but is not crucial so long as it is a reasonable seal, but as mine is a paint tin lid it tends to be airtight anyway... Did you ask because you are using unusual components because I may be able to help with any further queries, thanks :)
@rd11210 Woah.. yeah it is... I dont know why I said that, maybe I ment 2 minutes... Its ages since i posted that video, it works really well though, in a completely different league to those alcohol coke can stoves on youtube (i have those aswell) so well worth making as only takes 30 minutes, I now painted mine black with barbecue paint, looks awesome! Anyway, thanks for the feedback :D
Erm, not phrased very well to be fair, I think I get what you mean but not sure how a window screen can be metal as metal is opaque so by definition cant be a window! Anything metal thicker that about 10 sheets of aluminium foil so about 1mm thick should be fine so whether you mean a solid metal plate or a metal gridle i should think it will work, so long as the gaps are small enough and it is rased above the stove hole so gasses escape around the sides otherwise sparks may still be a problem :)
A thought I had was this (not sure if you'll have answer, but what the hell):
If I used large can and made somewhat of a hobo stove, but added a "feed tunnel" like a rocket stove. It would work (in theory) as a nice safe "pit" for small fire. main question is this... do you think a piece of metal window screen secured to top, would keep sparks/ash from flying out, or do you think it'd burn through, etc? thanks
To be honest I didn't see wood gasification and reignition via the upper air ports. This seemed to only be a rocket stove, less the heated chimney affect.
@jntroisi Please feel free to find another stove that has very visable gasification within 2 minutes on a windy day. Please dont spam me with negative comments, as a small channel i really cant aford the negative publicity. Thanks, btw, incase u hadn't understood my first sentence, it does gasify, and very well, i have tested it multifle times, on a non windy day it takes around 1min to start full gasification, upto 5 times longer in wind due to disrupted air flow, OK, just make a wind shield :)
@tommilkybarkid Sorry, I wasn't trying to be so negative, I was simply pointing out that I couldn't see gasification and that with an insulated chimney, as well as air ports, it may work better. I have made several gasification stoves and I am thinking of making a Rocket/Gasifier combo as well, which is how I found your vid. If I go forward with it, I'll email you a link to a vid.
@jntroisi There are air ports, bad film so mayby hard for u to see but if u pause it they are clearly visible, please look at my 2D design befor making silly comments, thanks, also an insulated chimney can only waste heat with a direct cooking camping stove, with this all the heat and hot smoke (if any) goes up, hits your pot, heats it, deflects round the sides and continues to heat it. Once again, do GOOD research b4 making comments, thanks :)
@tommilkybarkid Send me an email and I'l send you some links to some design pages on draft control, design guides for materials used for capturing and retaining heat for the combustion chamber. My idea for a gasification/rocket stove is to use a perlite/concrete combustion chamber & some sort of metal pipes to run air jets to reignite the wood gas. I think the key is to have the perfect height stove with a very hot combustion chamber as well as air jets to reignite any unused wood gas.
@jntroisi sounds interesting, good idea, that will work really well, infact if u put coal in it i bet u could smelt brass from the natural air draw :) personal policy not to give my email out incase of trogen viruses etc, even if there not personally from u :D i may try that idea especially for smelting low temperature metals :) thanks
@slocar1 no, it needs to have good airflow and heat the centre quickly to be able to gasify the wood, insulation would prevent both those and would have minimal heat conservation effects, I hope this helped, feel free to ask more questions :) . . . about litraly anything, I like a chalenge :D
The reason I asked about insulating the vacuum between the cans was because I've come across designs where vermiculite or ash was used for this purpose.
Your stove is possibly a different design based on different principles, and right now I'm a novice, an interested one nonetheless.
how long has this rochet stove concept been around ? first time ive seen it . very cool
