The reason he got sick was that the food that has been provided to him was getting rotted, but he just accept what ever people given to him.

I don't recall he's being vegetarian (I'm a Buddhist and ex-Thai monk)

Not only that, almost all of our scientific undesrtanding comes from people who are now dead. Now, following someone who claims to be immortal, that would be stupid!

As far as forgiveness goes, ignorance doesn't need to be forgiven, we are all ignorant of many things, goodness knows I sure am! The only "sin" (if you believe in such a concept) is to accept one's own ignorance, rather than trying to learn, as you seem to be.
