Great video Terry superbly shot, many thanks for uploading and helping to show those unfamiliar the true magic of the great outdoors. Yuri, you're a star.
Hi there, where exactly is this. You say northern england, but I live just on the border of scotland. Was it around there, because that looked a bit like cheviot? Great vid! :)
@BarrettFX In England & Wales it's illegal. But tolerated by and large on the uplands - unless you get the landowners permission. Worth giving farmers a call to get permission, too. Otherwise, pitch late, pack early, no fires and leave the area as you found it :)
@mountainmadness100 Yep, great place. Dunnerdale, too. You won't see many folk round there either. Or the very far eastern Lakes by the M6? Woods and that there, too - and hardly a soul about. Much more suitable than a Catbells etc if you know what I mean. Otherwise, on the highest summits like Scafell - a tent or bivvy is the best option
ok no prob. so what do you think irton pike and catbells are because i dont think they are high enough to be mountains.when you talk to people from the lakes they say hills or fells
@mountainmadness100 no worries. Those two are just big hills and popular ones, too. For low level camping ya better off in Ennerdale, for example. Plenty of trees there ;) You could rough it as you suggest in the Priest Hole Cave nr Dove Crag....loads more options about but in more discreet places (by and large anyway)
i didnt say uk hills but here is one off the top of my head IRTON PIKE trees everywhere. am a wilderness man and i have a list of great spots to WILD CAMP
@mountainmadness100 I was just making an observation, that's all. Irton Pike and Catbells are not hills most backpackers etc would consider suitable for a camp considering the current legalities of our hobby anyway ;) So, don't take no offence - none was intended. Was just bringing balance to your points raised :) Like I said, I agree with you...but it's not for us to judge what folk should or shouldn't do, eh?
i didnt say uk hills but there is one of the top of my head irton pike full of trees and also another catbells never been up that one but seen photos. there is so many hills with trees around them plus i am actually from the uk so i do have a greater knowledge of country
@0122358 Hi It's all aimed at protecting the landscape and not leaving any damaging mark. 2 nights and move on is a general rule here in the UK - plus in England it's illegal to camp out on the hills etc. Scotland it's legal. So, there are those considerations to be made, too.
I dont see wild camping as having a tent. if i was to do a wild camp then i would use natures resourses like build a shelter for the night outa branches and stuff like that. why hurl loads of equipment up to the hills when every thing you need is out there??????????????????????
@mountainmadness100 Each to their own ;) However, your comments are flawed concerning the ordinary person on the street. They lack the skills necessary you allure to - furthermore where are the trees to which you mention out on most UK hills? Besides, personally though I agree with you, I tend to flit between, bivvying, tarps and tents. My choice....perhaps not others?
As normal camping is becoming more expensive, just recently i visited A site and he wanted £17.50 for the night for a single man tent, Wild camping is freedom, peace from other rowdy drunk campers and its free, build your gear up over time, after all you have the rest of your life. Love this vid it sums it up well.
another great vid, it makes a change to see a wild camping vid where the subject explains why they do it and how to get started....rather than 10 minutes of some bozzo showing us his paramo pants, his atko tent, his jetboil stove, his carbon fibre walking poles, his camelback etc etc....despite the fact that it is obvious they haven't got a f*cking clue how to use it...or why they are there.
Enjoyed the video Terry bet it was better having a subject to focus on than keep setting the camera up and having to go back and forth for it did you use the same camcorder??
Cracking vid Terry. It's made me want to get back out in the hills.
