I seen Petra in Mount union Pa. for the first time years back and I heard bad things about Christian Rock.. I got to see Mylon and Broken Heart in concert, but after watching both groups I realized the bad rap Christian rock was getting was all wrong. Josh" McDowell was clean up crew for Petra, I believe they traveled together if my memory serves me correctly. And I seen the band Broken Heart stay up until three in the morning witnessing until the last one was witnessed to, very moving.
And thank you so much for remembering me in this one. :) Petra and his solo stuff got me through adolescence and still gets me through in my adulthood. Couldn't live without those CD's...... and cassettes. ;)
Fantastic interview! Further evidence that John is a professional's professional and, to quote kenaiah2000 below, an absolute legend. I would have liked to heard a bit more about Head East (just got the Hip-O Select "Gettin' Lucky/Head East" CD in the mail today in fact), but I know that he isn't really crazy about talking about that so I can live with it. Agree that the "copy what's hot" thing that Xian music has become is the wrong way to go and agree that there is no Petra equivalent today.
I wonder why he didn't say what exactly was in his I-Pod. I am not ashamed to say that 90 percent of mine is secular music b/c I don't like much of the Christian music out there. There is no commandment that say's thou shalt listen to Christian music. Like John, love political talk radio--and Christian teaching as well as Bible on cd
I'm a Born-Again Christian & have found that so much of the Christian Rock that's out there is, like John said about Petra, competing with secular rock--which is how it sounds to me, instead of sounding like the music flows from the heart in the spirit of worship. I haven't listened to Petra in years but just couldn't get into it when I even owned the CD back in the early 90's. Audio Adrenaline is cool tho.
