i thought this was a very pleasing tribute, but if i can just voice my opinion for a quick second. I think usher is a very solid performer and the closest to MJ that we have right now, but i do think that he didn't take this tribute seriously. If you seriously watch his movements and things, he's on the floor crawling, dancing, moving all around stage, unnecessary things. His vocals were the worst on stage, and he didn't seem to be in it for the right reasons. love Jennifer's part though

This was not a random addition.

Michael had specifically stated before his death that he has "a great admiration for Carrie Underwood".

So, when they asked Carrie to perform a tribute, of course she said yes. Quite honestly, I'm proud that they respected Michael's admiration for her and asked her to sing. I'm sure it would have made him proud as she really brought some variety and added flavor by lifting the performance with her vocal talents on her lines.
