  • Hi. Can you tell me how often you water them?

Thanks for youe video. It's great.

  • looks fun.

  • @luminosity2083 it sure is, and you can eat them

  • Does it work for harder to sprout seeds like peony seeds or blueberry seeds that generally take several months to germinate?

  • @stevelau1933 I don't think so, they would probably rot or something. This is more for sprout consumption

  • Cool

  • @scumbubbles1 thanks ;)

  • thanks, this helped me, do i keep the sprouter in the dark though, or is the counter fine?

  • @parrisjoey the counter is fine, the plant will get green and I'd say be more natural lol. plus it looks more like a plant when it's green. Gla you enjoyed the video ;)

  • Thank you for the video, but I don't see that it has enough aeration compared to the "other" round green sprouter.

  • @ckpeltomaa Well air gets in fine, in the pot I mean. but I prefer the trays too

  • you know something youtube has taught me more helpful stuff about life than school ever taught me, mind you though school is just another arm of industry and govts preparing us for employment

  • @magnusalexa Well you're right....about the school, they prepare us to hate work by hating school ;)

  • @jihadacadien lol

  • thank you, this is very helpful.. I got one a few days ago but seeing a video makes it easier ^_^

  • @x1MissWorld1x Well just happy to help. Oh and do try these in sandwidches! Or even in hamburgers! ;)

  • great video!!! what a nice personality you have!

  • @brandyiloveu4ever Ah well thanks ;)

  • nice video. congrtz A

  • @tharuc1 Thanks ;)

  • nice video. congrtz

  • @tharuc1 Thanks

  • Oh I LOOOOVE alfalfa sprouts! Sooooo reminds me of that month I spent with my Aunt Carrie back when I was like 12 years old. Need the avacodo and the Velveeta Cheese too, though. ; )

  • @Lavenderrose73 ...............you could add sprouts to the avocado velveeta thing ;)

  • @jihadacadien I almost bought this thing yesterday at the Food Co-op but $30 was too much for me for something I didn't even know how to use. Also, they don't have any alfalfa seeds there (or I would have bought that regardless!) and I'm sprouting wheat. I did a search for someone who is using the same sprouter so I'd be able to watch how it's done. I thought I'd buy that sprouter next time I get paid (not till August 1) but I DID buy a sprouting screen for a jar. So I may go to Elliots for alf.

  • @Lavenderrose73 Well the jar method works fine too.....I guess as long as you,re eating sprouts ;) But the sprouter makes it easier for sure...

  • @jihadacadien Yes, it looks it. Soon as I get more comfortable with sprouting (I just ate some sprouted wheat blended into dough with no yeast or anything, and it tastes like I put sugar in it but I didn't!), and soon as I feel I can spare the money, I know where in my hometown I can find it. : )

  • @Lavenderrose73 Cool, you'll enjoy it.

  • Thanks for posting this. I bought a sprouter but could not work out logically why the water would not drain - until you actually put in the small plastic bits, which is still unusual to see, seeing the water level is higher than the drain.

Thanks again, now I've started using it.

  • @shelza33 Great! Oh and some times it will stop draining, just give the sprouter a little shake. Hope you like the sprout cuz they are super good for you!

  • Thanks a lot! I'm gonna try this today!

  • @camiestrin Nice, hope it works well ;)

  • WOW! all that from a tablespoon each huh? ever take any of these sprouts and try to grow them outside to keep your production going??

  • @bubber25 Well the roots get all tangled up...so they could be damaged when separatingt them. but I did grow broccolis form the seeds planted in the dirt ;)

  • Thank you so much!! Just got my in the mail and was wondering how to use it, it looks like i got myself a very good buy :) Yummy! :)

  • @goneways Awsome!

  • Fav'd and Shared on FaceBook.

  • @liabatud67 Well thanks and stay healthy!

  • hi l bought this stuff and l put my broccoli sprouts in it after 2 days my broccoli sprout were mould do u have any tips i did everything right:(

    Toronto

  • @ozland2007 Well I think the mold you're seeing is the broccoli's roots. hey really look like mold. Look closely and you'll see that the ''mold'' is on the same spot on every little root. Just let the grow some more and you'll see. If it is on the stems and leaves they it's real mold. If it is....I guess clean every thing up with water and bleech, scrub with a tooth brush too.....and try again. Could be the seeds too that have mold on them. Only happened to me with brown rice.

  • @ozland2007

The jar method I think it better because you're supposed to fully flush the sprouts

twice a day. This is why mold grows.

Use muslin cloth and a rubber band to easily drain the sprouts, this also allows the natural "gas off" of any green vegetable to exit the jar.

I also use spring water. Most municipal water supplies have infinite amounts of dangerous wastes like undissolved medications people piss out, feces, chlorine, MTBA...etc.

Sprouts blow up 20X the size...80% water. :)

  • @LUVallova Well I ever had any problems with mould with my bought sprouter. But I do clean it every time with a tooth brush and a bit of bleach. I agree with the water..I use tap water but I let it over night on the counter

  • The broccoli sprouts looked really yummy! we will definately be trying those. Someone suggested beet sprouts? hmmm. I don't know might have to try it. I just love it though. Before I saw your vid I had never heard of growing your own sprouts. Never really thought about it I guess. I thinks it's about as close as you can get to instant gratifacation plant growing lol.

  • @52MismaLuna52 Well the beet seeds have a huge hard shell....so I'm not sure how those would be aken out. And as far and anti cancer seeds....look up crucifers...they are all good....but I think broccoi is the best. So best of luck to you! ;)

  • So I was so excited to see this video. I have a lil guy, and he is absolutely excited over gardening. I was thinking of getting him one of those silly little kits or something so he doesn't pick all my tomatoes again. After I saw this I thought, how perfect cuz I'm sure he can manage this, and I love Alfalfa sprouts so this is great. Thanks for posting!

  • @52MismaLuna52 Well thanks...they grow in about 4-5 days so he would really like it I think. plus you'll get food to put in salads and sandwiches! But I prefer broccoli sprouts....but alfalfa do taste less.....grassy ;)

  • @52MismaLuna52 Well thanks...they grow in about 4-5 days so he would really like it I think. plus you'll get food to put in salads and sandwiches! But I prefer broccoli sprouts....but alfalfa do taste less.....grassy ;)

  • Thanks! I just got one of those when a friend moved away and wasn't sure how to use it. I got a bunch of seeds (not sure what they are) as well. Thanks for the information it was very helpful.

  • @Brandxandra well I'm glad I could be of help! Hope they are all edible seeds ;)

  • @jihadacadien well, the ones I have started today are chick peas, and then also some lentils.

some of them im not sure what they are... but these ones are pretty obvious.

I will work my way down to the more questionable ones. he he.

Sprouter doesn't seem to be draining as nicely as it should :( oh well. guess I'll just have to keep a good eye on it.

  • @Brandxandra I see...well i guess all plant that produce food are edible as sprouts. And sometimes mine doesn't drain too..just give it a little shake and it goes!

  • @jihadacadien Yep the shaking seems to work very well!

I found a helpful guide on a website that details which seeds are good, and what they will taste like when done I think that might help out.

I intend to go buy some broccoli seeds next (as you demonstrated)... they seem like the most tasty, and healthy!

  • @Brandxandra I love broccoli seeds...and like I said they are very good against cancer....way better than alfalfa.

  • Bon jour!!! I'm a sprouter too. I use the Sprout Garden from Handy Pantry. I used to use mason jars. But trays are SO MUCH EASIER. Melody

  • @eliz7212 Yeah I love my tray sprouter! Glad you watched !

  • merci. Don't you change the water everyday or water em twice a day? Thanks Montreal ; )

  • @positivesoldier well I pour water on it about every 12 hours. but some seeds could need more water....but not the ones I've tried so far

  • Thanks mate! Just picked one up from a second hand store without instructions. Now I know.Snow Pea sprouts are my favourites. All the best from Down Under

  • @esky4one Awsome! and thanks! Just make sure you clean it with a drop of bleach and a little brush to get in the cracks.....just to be sure ;)

  • Thank you just what I needed to know

  • @betdan7777777 Nice! I hope it got you inspired to try tem out! they are really good for you!

  • I am also a sprouter. I keep all my organic seeds in my freezer until I'm ready to use some. I just take what I need and put the rest back in the freezer. I have absolutely no problem doing this and my sprouts are nice and plump.

I adore your french accent by the way.

  • @eliz7212 Well most broccoli, radish, alfalfa...won't die from freezing. but you might find some seed that grow in warmer climates. and thanks ;)

  • I find that presoaking the seeds helps them to sprout better. I'm getting sprouter envy. lol. I miss my trays. I had it rigged with a hose on the bottom tray. It was on shelf behind my sink and the hose drained directly into the sink. No need for the bottom catch tray. I actually had 3 of the smaller sets, so that was 9 small trays. Tower of sprouts. lol. I also kept the alfalfa on the bottom. They seem to make the water darker and cause other sprouts to go bad faster.

  • @VivianRinSC i don't really find a difference.....I just start a tray every 2 day and I have more then enuf. I love my sprouter!! I've had some in it for over a week and they are still good! I do clean it with a little Javex when I'm done with a tray.

  • im just speaking from my gardening experiences......i need to think more about adding sprouts to my families diet.....it seems that any cold weather plant would benefit from the freezing...cabbage family...turnip family ...but you are right..we are only talking about hours......i wonder if i could germinate seeds this way for my garden?

  • @centervilletn I still might try it out to see! I suppose you could try to germinate like that. But they grow ok in dirt. Plus you don't have the risk of the plant not diying once you put it in the dirt. And most time the roots are not going down, they are sideways.

  • @jihadacadien i was thinking about starting seeds for my spring planting...it might work out and advance my bedding plants..

  • @centervilletn Yeah I know ;) But I prefer to start then in a little pot.because the sprouts might be hard to transplant. but some people do this a variety of way ya know.....like in paper towels and such.

  • here is a tip...i dont grow sprouts but this may increase the speed at which they germinate....an old farmer told me to freeze my seeds overnight before planting as it caused them to sprout faster...it increases the speed of germination significantly....you might want to try it with your sprouter...

  • @centervilletn Hum....well it would only work on seeds that can be frozen..like carrots, beets...and such. Plants that don't live in cold places will die in the freeze. but 4 days, I don't think you can get any quicker than that ;)

  • awesome...totally awesome

  • @TheUrbanOutdoors Thanks! It's a great way to get vitamins!

  • Yum! Those look beautiful. I do mine in a jar, but I like that sprouter much better. It offers more for a family. Have you tried lintel and mung bean sprouts in it?

  • @GabbyT2 yeah it better for a larger or contstan amount. And I did not try the bigger sprouts.....but they say on the box that it could work.

  • Wow helps with Cancer! Lol imagine the million we could save if by rather than spending money on research we checked into the traditional medicines first! I love sprouts were did you find your grower? I will have to try in the jar for now.

  • @Revolutionisnow1 Oh totally and by eating better and taking better care of our bodies ;) I bought my grower from vesseys. They also sell seeds. The bigger bag are like 18$ and you will have enough fo a really long time!

  • Now I really want one of these. So I'm assuming you recommend them? I'm too lazy when it comes to the jar method so if I'd want to sprout them in intervals, I'd get too annoyed at having to use a few jars to do it. I'm glad you clarified the fuzzy roots not being mold or anything. I would have probably thought they were.

  • @ShadowVampira I agree the jar is trouble some. I love my sprouter and it's always sprouting on the kitchen counter. And you know you couldn't fail at it ;) You can even sprout them in the dark! I'm pretty sure you could find one in NY. You can even buy the seeds in bulk some places.

  • @jihadacadien So if you sprout with that sprouter, do you sprout in the dark and then let them see sunlight? I'm slightly confused about that bit. I was watching a lot of videos on sprouting. Some people say it's bad to let them see sunlight, others say it's perfectly fine and should definitely be done.

  • @ShadowVampira I saw both like you did. But I know that if sprouted in the sun they will have chlorophyl and I think more vitamins, plus I can't see why people think that it's better to do things not like mother nature intended. I wouldn't put the sprouter in direct sun because it might get too hot. But just on a desk or counter close to a window works fine.Anyway you grow them they'll be better than store bought greens that have been cut for a few days. (my opinion ;)

  • Yummy! :)

  • @nefaeria Oh they are! especially in sandwiches....burgers...soups...GOD I want to taste food again!!!

  • Awesome! I love fresh spouts! Tks for the video!

  • @TheSavvySwed hey thanks for watching!

  • You might have a multi tasking tool there. I could see using that to check the viability of your seeds for your garden.

I've never grown sprouts..but, I think I'm gonna try this. I just found out i'm diabetic, so I'm trying to get all the greens in my diet I possibly can.

  • @MakeupAddict4eva Oh you're right! Especially when I start keeping them from my own vegetables.....even if I intend to sell some one day ;) Oh and you should really get into sprouts! They are filled with good stuff for you. You can check my other video if you want to try the jar method. (it's in the info bar f this video)

  • @MakeupAddict4eva If you need any tips, I was diagnosed diabetic nearly 2.5 years ago. I'm 30 now, so I've got a pretty good diet and exercise regiment going. If you have a garden you should try growing Stevia, it's a natural sweetener that will not raise your blood sugar levels. Eating a lot of greens is a huge bonus. Try to stay away from corn... for me, for whatever reason it shoots my sugars through the roof. JihadAcadian and I keep up on each others videos...

  • @MakeupAddict4eva Maybe we will make a video for Diabetic growing. Hmm... give me more video ideas... add it to the list! ;)

  • @GettingThereGreen That would be a great idea! Lots of people are getting that diagnostic these days

  • I'd really appreciate any tips you have! I'm still very new to trying to keep my blood sugar regulated ( right now it seems like an impossible task).

I have been looking for Stevia...but I haven't had much luck yet.

    Thanks for responding! :O)

  • @MakeupAddict4eva We got our Stevia seeds at Vessey's Seeds. There are natural food stores that carry another natural sweetener called Agavae. This sweetener is in a squeeze bottle, it is not something you sprinkle... kind of looks like maple syrop... btw... stay clear of that... if you need some only 1 TBSP that's it. PM me and we can exchange contact info... I can help you with things quite a bit. Only took me 1 month to adjust. ;)

  • Excellent video! Thanks!

  • @SSanf Thanks I'm having fun myself seeing them grow so I figure people would like to see the process too ;)

  • It looks like it did turn out well....cool!

  • @TheVittleVlog Yeah I'm eating some right now in a sandwich ;)

  • They look real good, but I don't know if I would keep up with that stuff. Matbe I'd try the glass jar method instead of spending the cash for the "sprouter". Thanks for the vid bro!

  • @berean73 Thanks for watching ;) And they are pretty great in any sandwich instead of lettuce....even hamburgers (man I'm love to be able to taste one of those right now!) anyway I'm putting them in my food routine but you can always try them out from time to time like in salads for the summer time ;)

  • Thats pretty cool, hope it works well!

  • Nice job! That works great for growing sprouts. I remember my mom making sprouts when I was a kid. They are good for you. Enjoy.

  • @bj616 Thanks they are really good! Plus since we get a harsh winter I can still have acces to fresh vitamins.
