2. he is using a cutlass and you use a rapier... rapier wins against cutlass but lost against longsword (those 3 are just like rock paper scissors)

How can I get faster when I'm in Swashbuckler? I can't not compete with anyone in this level because they all move so fast. In Rogue level I was still ok but when I decided to move to Swashbuckler, they all kick my ass. someone please help?

umm i need some help... i am in a mission to find the hideout.. so the map says that it should be south of campache.. but its no where near that... and on the other coast line u find the specific reef named in the map.. but all the other land marks are no where there... help ?

When a frigate type warship is spawned, there's a chance of getting either a frigate, large frigate or a ship of the line. Sometimes the warship will be escorted by another warship. The biggest combination will probably be a ship of the line escorted by a large frigate. I have never seen 2 ships of the line together but I have seen two as one was going into harbor and the other one was going out. The game didn't allow me to fight them both at the same time. These ships exist on all difficulties.

like at what timeline are they in? or their in anytime line?...because im playing on 1660 and im just at the beggining and the biggest ship i've seen is war galleon and a frigate

I can confirm them from 1640 and onwards. It might be possible to spawn them in 1600 and 1620 if you make either the English, French or Dutch strong enough to have wealthy capitals. Only wealthy capitals can send a ship of the line. Consider it a 1-5% chance to get a ship of the line when a wealthy capital spawns a frigate type warship.

If you have the full map, you will have a town and/or a named reef to look for. When you go ashore, use the compass and the landmarks to navigate. The specific locations vary from game to game but sometimes they will tend to be in the same area (lost cities, relatives). If you don't have any landmarks, your precision with the compass will be crucial.

Great video. I've been reading thorugh your messages and you're a goldmine of information, have you ever thought about perhaps putting a guide up on gamefaqs, it would rule.

Also, how do you stop from having to divide the plunder - Is it just a cheat or is there a legitimate way to do it?

ps Have you across a bug in the game where the treasure isn't located where its suposed to be sccording to the treasure map? Happened to me late in the game and it was rather annoying.

It's not a cheat. You can avoid mutiny by having 1000g per crew member (that's 500g per man when swashbucklers divide plunder) before the initial effect of happy men disappears. I don't recruit more than 125 to begin with - but I make sure not to lose any of them. This way, I don't have to recruit. About treasure, yes, I had alot of troublesome lost city maps. Mostly, they are located due south east of Campeche (almost all the way to the other coast line).

This has probably been the best game invented.btw good job.When ever i make a new pirate on here Henry Morgan is usally the first pirate on run into.Hes never usally too hard to beat.But i never have duled him on Swashbuckler mode.Hes also my favorite of all time!

Perhaps a little late question, but those streaks coming off the swords. Is that a mod perhaps? Doesn't seem to be included in my game.

By streaks, do you mean you those white cartoonish movement exaggerations behind the sword? That's probably because I upgraded my sword (faster attack speed). Sparks happen when a thrust is succesfully parried (otherwise you would either jump or duck).

Check everything else (DirectX, video card drivers, motherboard drivers, compability 32/64bit). Do similar games work? My NVidia card used to freeze my system (except the mouse) in games and any media player or Internet Explorer. You could also try format disk and reinstall windows and all drivers. But that's not recommended unless you know how. There can be quite a bit of updating Windows and drivers, even on newer systems.

I have beaten the game. I found a way to play it without ever dividing the plunder. The only time I will divide the plunder is when I retire. Even then, I will get 50% of the gold. But I don't need it (I already got enough acres of land at that point). The only reason I collect so much gold is simply to amass huge armies and control the Caribbean.

Your character will become increasingly slower as you age (especially on the harder difficulties). You can choose the medicine skill or buy the medicine items in the game to delay it for a few years. But I recommend that you do any important duels before the age of 35. After the age of 40-45, you won't even be able to beat the annoying captains in the town inns.

No, that's a money sink - especially early in the game. Basically, your current amount of gold determines how many men you can have, which is 1 man per 1000 gold. Every man counts when you struggle to fill up your first flagship. Buy a ring at 1500 and a necklace at 4500 though. Get your first 12 dueling and navigation items by dancing. Do perfect dances with rather plain daughters and acceptable dances with attractive daughters (visits the Jesuits first to spawn Raymondo).

It's a setting in your video options. It requires more power, of course. Therefore, it's not a standard setting but you can change it whenever you want if your video card and processor will allow it.

Yes, you take over control of the character after exchanging gun fire with the enemy captain.

how did you learn those moves?

When you play this on Swashbuckler, you will quickly find out that most of the opponents are faster than yourself and they easily read your moves. Some opponents fight aggressively and some fight defensively. Aggressive opponents can be countered by doing combo moves of dodge + immediate counterattack. Defensive opponents can be tricked by combo moves of feint + immediate opposite attack (high/low). Don't spam the same attack all the time or they will quickly read it.

They spawn like any other warship from English, French and Dutch towns. They are slightly more rare than frigates though but not nearly as rare as SOLs.

This one is 26 years old and in good health. I got Set of Perfectly Balanced Swords, Silk Fencing Shirt, Metal Cuiraiss, Brace of Pistols and Medicinal Herbs (but not Incan Salve yet). I also got skill at Fencing with this one but I recommend Navigation. Fencing becomes hard after 30 and nearly impossible after 40 anyway. Navigation will always make you go faster (stacks up with Cotton Sails and a specialist Navigator).

How old is your Pirate?

It's on the highest difficulty (swashbuckler). I'm not really sure about the Geforce family lineage. You need a Geforce 3 to run the game. Since your sackings take about an hour, maybe you got a slow processor? It requires a 1ghz processor and 256mb memory. It runs excellently on my Intel 3ghz duo core and also previously on AMD 3700 and AMD 2200. Land battles are much smoother/faster with a fast computer.

nice sailing and what difficulty u have this on? I also have this game but i only have 1gig of ram and a Geforce mx 4000 so no matter what difficulty i use everything is in slow motion, and sacking towns? not even an option, takes about an hour. =(
