Prop wash is annoying and choppy usually-wingtip vortices can really roll you hard and impart severe structural forces on the airframe- i had the modified Cassutt N-38z in the 70's. Racer wing and full blown bubble canopy, stretch fuselage. Outrageous looks like a carbon coby.
Yes, on the course many times, both at PRS 2007 & 2008 and during race week 2007 & 2008 in F1 race 98 & 99. I think you are hitting wake turbulance which has a much stronger rolling moment, and lasts longer, than "prop wash".
Actually the engines are closer to stock than you might think, as this is a requirement of the class. Only modifications allowed are balancing and forged pistons, both to improve the reliability of the engine. Extra horsepower comes from turning at a much higher rpm (in excess of 4000 for typical gold competitors) and more efficient intake/exhaust that a stock application.
RV8 wake is about the same as a faster F1 at speed, due to high wing loading of the F1, I've flown in and behind both. Better to avoid in the turns if possible, but full stick deflections are not uncommon when you do. RV8 is a great asset to F1 as it allows course orientation to new pilots, I can't think of an aircraft that would be better for this purpose.
Still way less power than a stock 360. It's odd that they would have to be rebuilt so soon when the GO-300s run in the same RPM range on certified aircraft and share many of the same components.
RV's are nice planes but are heavy on the controls and have such a slow roll rate compared to F1 planes. It's like comparing apples to oranges

You ruined the whole video with that dumbass music.

Propwash is minor compared to wake turbulence when in the turns. And yes I have been on the course....

Thanks for the info. IF1 has always interested me but all I do is fly and fix boring ol' GA stuff.

Cool that a plane with a Cessna 150 engine can keep pace and even pull ahead of a plane with twice the power. Cassutts rock!
