I have this kit - The IV Special - along with my Tama Granstar acoustic.
The classic wood kit programmes, especially the Oak & the Beech Custom sound amazing ! I use my Dtx for recording all the time now & when they're mixed well in a sound check & put through decent PA speakers they sound like a really well miked acoustic kit.
I haven't used my Tama for a while now because of the DTX IV Spec. Best money I ever spent on a kit !!
Can it be plugged to a computer via midi and mapped to use better samples (eg. toontrack stuff)? Looks really functional but i really don't like the sounds specially the snare :/
hi, sorry for my english. in these days I will coming to buy this kit. I want to know if i can add some cymbals. the 3 cymbals in the kit are 3zone. if i add others (like you), I lost the 3 zone? How many cymbals I can add?? thanks!!! Fabio
Hey awesome video - definitely sounds sweet. Now, I know this has been thrown around a bit - sorry to be a pain, but since some of you have some experience with this, would you advise going for the Yamaha DTXpress 4 Special or the Roland TD-4V if they were the same price? Thanks for any advice!
i have this kit it's awesome. it comes with three cymbals but there's only room in mod to plug in 2.
the people below me bang on their ceiling when i use the kick. kind of pissed me off considering i bought e drums to avoid pissing people off. now i basically play the kick drum very softly. it's limiting but whatever.
this kit is awesome though, the metronome has great features. i only really use one sound on here though.
@MrMcmikemike Have you tried putting a thick mat beneath the drums? is it the sound of the beaters hitting the pad or shock traveling through floorboards making the sound? I'm asking because double bass is a huge part of my playing and i'm moving into a student flat next year.
@Chairmaneoin i had a thin mat at one time that breaks down into sort of giant puzzle pieces.. they didn't do much at all so i abandoned them.
I think it's a combination of shock and sound of beater but mainly the sound of the beater.
i've had ideas about building a wooden box raised half a foot of the floor with insulation underneath, but something like that is so inconvenient and spendy.
also, i've thought about customizing my beaters using timpani mallets.
@MrMcmikemike Felt beaters would help if you're not already using them, adjusting the spring tension so it's not as tight would mean you're not hitting so hard but it would make it feel a bit different. Is it very loud or are the people below just really fussy?
@Chairmaneoin they could be fussy. right now it's a gibralter pedal. im using the felt side of the beater. it's one of those front felt/back plastic beaters.
@Chairmaneoin so far, i've just been using single pedal very softly, and having my double pedals set up so that the edge of the couch away from the e kit.
it works for exercises, but it's annoying and it separates my feet from my actual drumming. after all, it's all about continuum so that's why it sucks.
@MrMcmikemike Theres a way to decouple your set from the floor. "float" it with a bunch of neoprene or something. best thing to do is build a lil 'durmstage' and have it resting on something to absorb the vibes. good use for those old innertubes you been holding on to?
Have you considered the tennis ball riser. Google it. I'm prob going to be in the same predicament as you if I get an eKit. And I will make that riser if I do.
@TreYohn I knew there was a catch. I have the standard Dtxpress IV and I wanna order every part of the special edition kit because I wanna record with these. What program would you reccommend me to use for my e-kit?
@MrMcmikemike Yeah, what gives? I have the Yamaha Dtxpress IV standard pack and I wanna upgrade my snare pad to to the Dtxpress IV Special. I also want a third cymbal pad as well. Would I be able to still do that?
I think theres room on the market for both electronic and acoustic. It all depends on the sound you want. The BEST part of having an electronic kit is you can play whenever you want, never have to change heads and tune them, or deal with complaints from neighbors about noise. I think the music business is too much work for too little money, all for the sake of "expressing your art." Ive been doing it for 13 yrs and ready to switch to electronic full time, because of the crap Ive dealt with.
i just actually demo'd it today at GC, they had the speaker set that is advertised as the one compatible with this kit manufactured by Yamaha, set up. it wasn't anything special, headphones and a soundboard would be better, to control volume levels.
@harkanblaa... I was going to get a TD-9, but with the Yamaha DTXpress IV, you get one more cymbal, (Roland only comes with 2, besides hi-hat), and all the Yamaha cymbals have 3 strike zones, (bell, bow, and edge, just like a real cymbal), as opposed to the Rolands that are only dual zoned. Plus, the Yamaha is $100 less, and honestly, the sound quality on a Roland isn't that much better.
Just an opinion. Have fun drumming, no matter what you use.
Only two of the three cymbals are 3 zone cymbals, one of the cymbals is a single zone. Yamaha DTXPIV modules use sound samples whereas the roland drums use synthesized sounds that are dynamic, producing a more "unique" sound.. this is most noticeable on their snare. the choke on the cymbals is more realistic than compared to a yamaha, which is more of an abrupt choke. The DTXpress IV kit is an awesome kit, and i recently bought one, but the Roland kits aren't as bad as you make them out to be.
what a great video sound, plus the talking it's almost useless..

@cubedrummer19 i think you might just need to adjust the sensetivity of the pad. on the trigger settings
