I like this movie, but I think it's a little over-dramatic. Jamie's parents seem really loving and understanding, and it's surprising that she finds it so hard to talk to them. I know they can be a bit overbearing, but they never seemed so completely overbearing that she couldn't talk to them about it. They were obviously happy about her her art show and just made a mistake about the dates in the heat of the moment. They're good parents.
