Thanks for posting this and all the effort you put in to it. I love this song. However...you have a small error in your lyrics. It should be "...elephants that sing to *feed*...", emphasis mine. No offense intended and thank you again.
I always thought this song was about the futility of modern society, how "experts" suggest that thinking about a happy memory can solve any problem, and how everyone seems to obsessed with sex or your know-how when it comes to "hanky-panky". And the struggle to understand it all, when there's so many more pressing matters such as faith and morality.
I know, pigshavecurlyflutes did a great job!!! I like it, he just said, he don´t understand the lyric exactly (because nobody does) so I told him what I heard. John Cale said that it´s a song about his drugs experiences.
Well! Im the same as you! I don´t know what it´s about, but he (John Cale) called it like a: "Song about my heroin experiences"...! So, it could be just about weird, really werid things!

Nothing frightens me more than religion at my door. Religion does the hankypanky with our minds. Religion says “Hey baby, can I take you home?”
I never saw her, never really saw her." Our babies should not do the hanky panky time to get real.

Check out the "drone" mix on the cd. John Cale's lovely voice and viola only. Awesome video!

terribly literate character john cale, do wish he'd have made the play gravity's rainbow with pynchon, would have been cool.

This is my favourite song of any song in the world.
Please don't provide images - just listen.
It's so gentle, and the images are so discordant.
It's a beautiful song.
Let others interpret it any way they choose,
