  • Works for me. Epic.

  • ?????trash song!!

  • Starfox's final boss

  • This song feels so aggressive, I love it.

  • 0:56 - 1:06 First chill from ramp up, to bass explosion, second chill from the ramp down!

  • I'm sorry captain, I'm givin' her all we've got, she can't take much more of this.

  • ドゥルン ドゥン ゴゴ ドゥオン こちょこちょ

    五十音には限界がある

  • awesome king of breakcore

  • The triumph of noise. The fucking kings!

  • fullfills so many urges

  • Oh my god. This is one of the most crazy-awesome things i've ever seen-heard.

I love the drop at 0:58. My brain undeniably shit itself.

  • people seriously this song has a very obvious beat for the first two minutes or so and the last 30 seconds. it's very easy to listen to and make sense of

  • Seriously, and I'm, not trolling. This tune (or the majority of it, well, the first bit) is in good old 4/4.

Listen out for the "dah!" noise. That's beat "1".

You can actually dance to this shizzle. And a one, two three, four -

"dah!" BAMDABOOMBOOMBARGHBOURGH "dah!" DAMBADDABOOMDABBADADAAARGH "dah!" etc

    Happy bedroom raving!

  • @notseymour

    Ahahahahahahaha

  • I dunno about you but I get it. got it.

  • Great stuff. The idea of syncing video to the kind of hyper shredded glitchy sounds of this style of music is certainly interesting. Anyone know of any other attempts at this sort of thing?

  • @774434 - you = shit

  • still one of my all time favorites!

  • Where can I get a high A/V resolution of this video

  • TEARIN'

  • wow this = shit

  • my favourite bit is from 0:58 onwards especially the big shockwave bit

  • I've been waiting a long time for someone to do something like this.

    Bravo! =)

  • @syntheticperson how great would it be to be able to have one made for some favourite song of yours eh

  • 底辺からの構築、再生、新世界への焦燥感、未知なる物への畏怖と期待、すべてが音と映像から感じ取れる。

  • The effect is known as "synesthesia". Each sample has a specific shape and is synced to the music so that in a sense this is what the music "looks" like. I heard that Autechre made this themselves as they werent exactly thrilled with what Chris Cunningham had done with "Second Bad Vilbel" previously. They apparently came up with the idea after an LSD trip. Their new album "Oversteps" is fantastic. Autechre define IDM for me.

  • sounds like razors

  • Amazing

  • so good

  • おぉ。かっこいい。

    一部Aphex Twinっぽい音がある。

  • もちろん。おそらくそれらはすべて、同じラベルのある時点で発表した。

  • ketamine

  • Now that's creativity.

  • valla puta mierda de ruido hijos de puta! os vais a quedar todos sordos con esta mierda

  • Go listen to Celine Dion and stop hating.

  • tú eres el hijo de una puta mierda puta mierda vete a la mierda. ir a escuchar hijo de puta mierda conservatorio. y aprender a utilizar la palabra mierda. fuck you

  • It's a shame... i've played this type of music for friends or whoever and I always get this look of what the hell are you listening to.They hear noise but I hear noise that has been structured and randomized. These people can't see the forest for the trees.

  • que asco

  • its like making a visual in the sound structure of the song... i love listening to this song extremely loud, but when my girl walks in and asks "i don't understand this, sounds like random noise!" ill just keep to myself and enjoy Autechre Gantz Graf.

    sweettt!!!

  • yeah not everyone really understands this type of music. some people dont hear it for what it is.

  • sad but true, maybe thats why this is considered to be underground... well at least that i think it may be. simply because i dont know people who like this.

  • welcome to the next mind dimension

  • blimey some one swallowed a dictionary lol but i love this sounds cool

  • what can i say....L.S.D!!!!

  • Why I love this audio-visual experience so much is that as you hardly "get" the music (understand its patterns which is almost impossible since as soon as you get a grip of one, the pattern changes; as if the music actively resisted patternization and as if it is constructed to maintain its cryptic status) - well, as "getting" the music is an impossible struggle, the Object "gets" it for you! The "synthesis of understanding" doesn't happen in your head (memory patterns), but in the Object itself

  • *licks your head* I like you.

  • @VaelVictus Aww thanksss

  • i get what your saying about the vid but it doesnt apply to everyone. some people are more auditarially based and understand what they are hearing 1st before understanding the vid. most people are visually based though so... yeah

  • @LichtungNym That is one of the best comments on Youtube I've ever read. I was thinking exactly the same thing as well. The song has no rhythm, no real structure and doesn't follow the normal paths of a song. Instead the song is more of an experiment. That isn't to say it's not brilliant it fucking well is but the experience is about how offbeat, trippy and pure insane the track is and the video sums that up. The video does the work for us. Good comment mate.

  • @LichtungNym

    deep bro.

But seriously, look up synthesia. I suffer from it mildly, and this song sends me into a vomit-y mess of audiable colours. Its really difficult to describe.

  • @LichtungNym

and the visualization is in line with how your mind interprets the sound, not just on a level of patterns, but also frequencies and amplitude. Even if the song is truly random, good visual interpolation will meld it together so sound prediction is possible. What's really happening here is we are actually "seeing" sound as our brain interprets it. When the patterns defy what is normally necessary to make music "sound good," our minds are thrown for a trip when we can actually see it

  • @LichtungNym Bla, bla, bla... I just like the shapes.

  • I would love to live in a city where that happens.

  • GENIUS !!!! incredible sounds and incredible video, perfect 11/10 !

  • 2:40 to 3:10 made me feel so calm...dont know why. :/

  • organized madness

  • hahahahahahaha, yes.

  • Exactly what I was thinking. Great way to explain it.

  • I love the work of Chris Cunningham but must say this is the best image-to-music example there is! And yes it might be that only drugs could help one achieve that ! Or madness...

  • This is by a guy called Alex Rutterford who works for RSA.

Its interesting becuase he said this directly inspired by an expeirance with/on acid.

  • This song is actually mostly unstructured, for people who think they don't "get it". The beats are constructed but they're in blocks. The actual structure of those blocks is repetitive but mostly random.

Most Autechre songs are mostly really smart beats with a more freeform organization. Nothing wrong with it, but that's really what it is.

  • i loveeee that part near the end

makes me kind of frightened and restless, for some reason

  • I was expecting a really in depth way of how he came up with the video, but no, just drugs.

  • Madness

  • This is really neat. It reminds me of these psychological sound bytes that can evoke the effects of drugs. I, of course, mean that in the best way possible. This track along with its visuals make me think.

  • AUTECHREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    +++

  • You sound like their typical "OMG I'm so in tune with their vibes" pseudo-fan.

  • You sound like every other pseudo-elitist dickhead on the web. How dare anyone think about the sounds they hear!?!

  • Nothing wrong with thinking about it, I just don't get why people think Autechre are a magical puzzle box. After 5 years they don't sound any different to me and I didn't suddenly have a religious experience over it. I just got used to it and acquired a taste, like with anything.

Far from elitist IMO, I just take it as what it is and enjoy it for that. It isn't meant to be quantum physics.

  • Why do people always try to express music verbaly? Music is an emotion and the most difficult thing to express is emotion so why bother to do so...!?

Just open yourself to the music and experience what you feel and not analyze it.

    (Probaly sounding like a... and i quote:'Pseudo-elitist dickhead') ;)

  • It isn't an emotion, it provokes emotions. Other than that I agree with you on just feeling it.

  • Is anyone else having a seizure?

  • I have now posted a 720p version of this on my channel, check it out !

  • "No one would have believed..." that machines can talk! sublime ;-D

  • music has nothing to do with I.Q.

  • not true actually.

  • everything has to do with everything else.

  • If there is anything on this planet is worth his blessings, this is one of them.

  • best part i 2:33

  • I interviewed Alex Rutterford up in a London cafe about this video, he's a great bloke. He said that virtually nothing in this video was animated, just frame by frame animation - awesome!

Any questions that I might know about this vid from Alex's words I'll try to answer.

  • wait, I didn't get it..

nothing in the video was animated, just frame by frame animation? can you explain more?

  • np. Alex used Lightwave for the 3D work and barely using a little animation for some parts (I thing the part where the sonic wave booms out and maybe the camera rotation but otherwise this was achieved through a lot of patience), then he put his 3D models into After Effects along with the song and used the 'convert audio waveform to Keyframes key' to get the points where to change the frames and have the graphics react to the music. In AE he used alpha channels to cut up the models into strips.

  • how is it very simple?

its not simple to make & its not simple to listen to..

  • this is the baby shit

  • Sweet!

  • Awesome. It's like scientist was trying to create the ultimate source of energy, but failed.

  • my very favourite bit is between about 0:55 and 1:05 where it stretches out then boom and that ring zooms out from it and then that spinny stuff is happening, so cool X)

  • YOU CAN SEE MUSIC.. amazing!!!

  • Give us a god damned official YouTube channel with shit like this, Warp!

  • YES!!

  • ahem, they've got one...

  • Well, do you see this video on it? No you don't! Neither any of Autechre's videos or any THING about Autechre, to say the least...

  • Fair point, fair point.

  • awesome timing!!

  • looks like a deep space communication transponder, which can change its shape and direction exactly with the actual task. it has a lot of work to do i think...

  • holy shit, that was great

  • Beatiful.

  • Amazing.

  • This is the greatest video clip ever made.

No seriously - there is nothing more context appropriate. It complements the sound totally.

Say what you will subjectively about the sound....this clip is an incredibly accurate visual representation of the sound. This is amazing.

  • @jumboclipexponent

    yea yea...what else

  • i guess u need to take a walk at the river or get yourself a woman.

  • 2 jumboclipexponent below

  • fuck u sickmind

  • Yes, you can get some of those sounds by sample clashing, but to arrange them in such a rhythmically precise manner is a whole different beast. Even if you don't find it enjoyable, at least they're creating something abstract and challenging, rather than your typical electronic dance stuff.

  • Yeah. Im actually a big fan of Autechre I prefer the earlier stuff like Eutow & Bike. Thanks Iwillmaceyou. My comment wasnt negative but sickminddd is a turd who likes to spread hate.

  • Mind....Hurt.

  • MONSTER TUNE AND VID ...NICE

  • This videoclip is pure graphical terrorism!!! I dig it!

  • dammit my comments were supposed to be replies to other peoples comments but they all just went to the top

    vvvv

  • yeah, it's annoying when that happens...

  • perfect visual representation of sound. great song. awesome video.

  • it sound almost exactly like the auditory distortions that i experience while on ketamine. the visuals don't look the same, on ket it's even more abstract. i will try to watch this next time on ket, i really want to hear how the ketamine will distort this sound. maybe i'm going to hear the "normal" version of this song? lol that would be insane :))

  • Make sure you get it on DVD. Youtube can't do justice to this video. Watching it on a large plasma screen with a kicking sound system while on your choice of drug is the way to go.

  • i would like to see this in a big cinema with great sound and fine details

    that would be awesome!

  • This is way too abstract... But very good, indeed!

  • definitely not too abstract

  • Abstract when compared to dead and recycled 'modern' shit.

  • This is some of the best music ever written Anarchia. And the art direction and ideas behind the video are astounding. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's shit.

    Stink

  • your little mind just can't comprehend it

  • This has always been my favorite thing to look at.

I wish there was more done to this amount of detail

  • You have to have good taste in music to actually flow with this beat.

  • What's this, the dark middle age? So the director was on acid, what a surprise.. probably the AE guys do it enough too :)

LSD is LSD. This is close enough how it feels 'tho. Sometimes. Maybe.

  • Impressive

  • Is it possible to make a better video for a better group? The fact that the creator was on LSD makes an interesting point, the purest, most abstract ideas come when you give over control of your mind.

  • give over? you haven't taken that stuff. it gives you _full control_ over your brain.

  • Fair point, I worded that badly, what I meant was that on drugs your mind works in ways it wouldn't normally, so you come up with ideas you wouldn't have otherwise. Why did 'give over?' have a question mark?

  • Cool. I just feel that you don't give your brain over to anything. When you're on some kind of mood-altering substance, you are still completely YOU. It does help with expanding your mind's possibilities/capabilities.

  • No - you haven't taken a high enough dose. Take enough LSD (300-450 microgrammes) and 'you' dissapear. You wouldn't be able to operate a computer. You wouldn't even know where the computer ended and 'you' started.

  • lol no point of that unless u wanna ask someone wat u did for a couple hours. as powersrobin said.. it basically brings out the deeps sider of your emotions/ideas and how you perceive things... u have control, jus depending how much u take lol.

as in "capabilities..only so much mentally...

possiblities are never ending whith the mind and imgination.

jus do as Autechre did, and make something out of them

    cheers

  • lol "full control", completely disregarding the fact that we use and/or control approximately 10% or less

  • What?

  • This is going to sound insanely wierd. But I was tweaking out high on pot, then I go watch this video, and it calmed me down. haha!

  • it is not "just another one brain breaking video" it is fkng museum object

  • Worth seeing on DVD. Far superior visually. musically and viscerally. Sublime.

  • this is one of the best music visualizations music ever created. along with rubber johnny from chris cunnigham this packs so much into couple of minutes that the whole video behaves like book, every time you watch it it is different.

  • I'm having an eyegasm and an eargasm at the same time right now.

    fantastic.

  • wow, an excellent visual representation of the effects on the sound waveforms.

  • The vid doesn't work. Use the hd hack : &fmt=18 to the end of the URL.

  • It works! That's really cool.

  • it does´nt work on youtube, the sound is horrible, the video material is swampy.

watch the DvD, its the only way to honor that wonderful piece of electronic art...

    sorry...

  • no kidding.. this sucks.

got a link to anything with better quality?

  • This is so perfect, on so many ways.

    Gets WAY cool at 00:55

    <3

  • omg gonna watch this on shrooms this friday.

  • The most perfect visual conceptualisation of sound ever. Like a nanomachine pinball machine in a thermonuclear blast. God on the visual decks trying to explain architecture while we dance. Hooray for us!

  • <3 (:

  • paste &fmt=18 on the end of the url to get better quality

  • &fmt=6 is even better =)

  • Oops. &fmt=6 is just the same as the regular one. It's usually the best =\

  • Fucking excellent tip! Thanks. :D

  • ***KING ACE TUNE

  • I have no idea what this is, but its the coolest thing I've seen in years. (Warning, may cause epilepsy, lol.)

  • Really ? "Oh foutre" as French guys say !

  • We say "oh merde" in french, lol

  • But "oh foutre" is really elegant in my opinion.

    "foutredieu" is cool too.

    ("rires")

  • It's a shame the French are a bunch of twats. ;)

  • we can see the music and hear the visuals :D

  • I remember when I say this vid for the first time quite a few years back I was trippin' balls because of it... and now I still do... It's like one giant acid-flashback!

  • Dios santo, qué video! qué lineas! qué sonido! qué vibrante!Me encanta, sobretodo la segunda parte. No puedo dejar de verlo.

  • I'd recommend getting this on dvd, youtube doesn't really do it justice. Quaristice?

  • I bet this was made by demosceners

  • absolutely the most amazing artisitic expression of synaesthesia and geometry i've ever seen!

  • ahh thank you for posting one of good quality!! It's a whole lot cooler when you can make out the details and everything isn't blurry or boxey.

  • perfect

  • Amazing -Really worth getting this one on DVD. Love the bit towards the end when it starts to die then just ends with a pop!

  • O.o...really good!

  • how am I only discovering this now. 6 years too late. Fucking Awesome.

  • Better late then never...

  • The most intense audio visual experience you can have without drugs!
