  • This is awesome

  • Brian is taking his friend Stewey to get ice cream in his car.

  • ...and Gary Numan...

  • Awaiting the new album, loved this man since 1979 and he still rocks :)

  • I'll buy Die Hard bateries now, JUST because of this commercial.

    Love Gary Numan!!

  • Chuck Norris is Gary Numan's BITCH!!!

  • This guy is that awesome..... they needed him for this commercial or all life on earth would be lost

  • I know that the music is what matters, but numan's face and look are so cool. I wanna look like that in his age, like a badass mofo.

  • I CAN'T GET THIS OUT OF MY HEAD!

  • cool, gary newman, abassador for the CAR industry, is he on commission? he should be, ha, ha, love it

  • Indeed, my friend!

  • Nice to see Gary exposed to a new crowd. I attended my very first (or many) concerts in Santa Monica, California... 1979 (or maybe 78) It's all a bit blurry back then... 8-)

  • life demands gary numan

  • Actually kinda cool.

  • Whooooooot!! Still cool, Gary. :)

  • the 14 people who disliked had their cars towed

  • There's no need to be spiteful towards Gary.... he's not that way at all to anyone..

  • he wouldn't look such a twat if he had his old hair style...

  • @thepinktent He looks more like Gary Glitter these days!

  • @missmarypickford No you didn't! That's a horrible thing to say and he has kids now!

  • This is actually kind of cool.

  • @OBSysteme Probably. But he should have listened to his American record company back in 1980 when they told him not to release his next album which was Telekon so soon because it would kill the success of his album Pleasure Principle (which 'Cars' was on) on the US charts. But Gary did release Telekon too soon, and it screwed things up. This is why in the US he's mostly still the 'Cars' guy. But I still think he's hot and sexy!

  • The beautiful sound of Cars sounds good on anything

  • love it lots great to see numan on the adds

  • I'm a proud numanoid xD

  • Gary can own Chuck Norris any day

  • The cars were powered by the pure awesomeness of Gary Numan.

They could make this video without a battery at all.

  • @OPWolf LMAO best comment ever hahahah

  • @OBSysteme Not really..I saw in n interview how Nissan used 30 seconds of his song cars and it payed him enough to buy his new house....and he wasn't even in it.

so I can imagine how much he made on this commercial....if it's paying the bills, I am sure he's not tired of it.

  • The cars were powered by Gary's absolute coolness. He Is A Cool Motherfucker.

  • Nice, very nice :)

  • how they did it: (broken up into 3 parts)

    bit.

    ly/

    numanhow

  • MysteryGuitarMan gotta jump on this.

  • Does anybody know what version of 'Cars' is used at the end? Its not the original 'Pleasure Principles' version.

  • what's the point? I thought he was going to actually play some tunes with the midi keyboard through the car horns, but nada. What gives? Is this it?

  • Cube of lamps approximately 3 amps

    double stack keyboard 5 amps

on a car starter motor . Expect the current on a warm engine to be in the area of maybe 100 amps, on a cold winter day closer to 150 - 200 amps

we'll say that it was a warm day so it was 2407 amps total output needed minimum

So the diehard batteries maximum output is around 1500

so in the end it is only logical that one car (quiet start) was started and there alternator powered the next and next making a sort of chain

  • gary numans face looks like a bed sheet

  • @butty41 He's still hot enough to pull off the black eye liner. I think he was the first male musician to do the black nail polish thing too. He wore it back in 1979.

  • Freddie mercury was wearing black nail polish in 1974.. ;-)

    lol

  • @Numanoid1963 Crap. LOL It stilllooks better on Gary!

  • @jrmetmoi Errrrr no. I think Lou Reed did it wayyyy before him..

  • that's purty creative!!

  • love it

  • 5 seconds after commercial, all cars take off XD

  • I din't believe it at first! Really, the whole thing runs on 1 battery? No wonder why the band OK GO where using the Syyn Labs for their video "This Thu Shall Pass!"

  • but if you start one car that car will put energy back in the battery. so that battery had the help of all the cars that are running to start the ones that are not. therefor its floored.

  • When they die, they die hard.

  • They also had to either change the horns in the cars to get different pitches, or they re-pitches the notes in post production.

But, still an effective add for one badass battery.

  • @AaronAlso if you look for the making of, it tells you they tuned the actual horn.

  • Die Hard FTW XD

  • and then they all take off and plow down down garry numan

  • the effort that goes into advertising a battery.

  • GOING EPIC FOR THA SAKE OF AWESOME !!!!!!!! FTW

  • That's the most effective I've seen.

  • Isn't it only really starting the first car? Then all the other ones are starting off the power from the car alternators since they are all connected.

  • @ArchNME yeah i was thinking the same thing. still the lights, headlights and horns would still drain a lot of juice

  • @ArchNME watch the making of video its all from one batterie including starting every car.

  • @ArchNME Prolly still decent commercial

  • @ArchNME u just owned DieHard lol

  • @ArchNME watch the making of on make magazine they only hooked up what was needed

  • @ArchNME well, not really, a car alternator could not generate enough energy to start a car.

  • @tbsys31061 Of course it could - a cars alternator is 3 phase a/c - so you have the potential of 24 volts at your disposal - you then have the condenser or coil of the next cars ignition system which increases the amps to energise the solenoid - but you are right in principle that - depending on engine cc etc - an alternator would be unable - by itself to start an engine

  • @ArchNME The cars are all started by starter solenoids. everything is controlled by a laptop, including the starters.

  • @ArchNME I was gonna say that... but still.. nice ad..

  • Comment removed

  • @ArchNME you smartass :)

  • @ArchNME I'd say more like fully starting half of them. The altenators simply cant deal with currents that high on their own.

  • @ArchNME maybe the alternators have been disconnected?

  • @ArchNME You can hear the engine rev. Sounds exactly like when you jump a car.

  • @ArchNME Shhhhhhhhhhh

  • Wow, Bruce Willis has hair now :)

  • ...I need to change my car battery stat.

  • well of course the would still start, its called an alternator which would actually resupply the battery....

  • @GraffTips Doesn't the alternator work while the engine is running? So if the engine is running, why would you start it?

  • @neoscotty the engines in the cars weren't running when he played the piano. there suggesting that there battery is so great that after all that u can still start all the cars. well of course once the alternator starts the car no longer requires the battery.

  • @GraffTips Yes, but it used up a lot of battery energy to power all the cars to play a song with their horns and lights. Then you need the battery to start the car. And, they used the same battery to start ALL the cars. It's pretty impressive.

  • @patpatboy2 all hes doing is power a cars horn and headlights, and that doesnt require a lot of energy. so after he does his brief show they start a cart and it will instantly start to recharge the battery which will make it easier to start up all the other cars

  • @GraffTips So, you're saying the alternator starts the car?

  • @neoscotty no im not saying that, but all hes doing is power a cars horn and headlights, and that doesnt require a lot of energy. so after he does his brief show they start a cart and it will instantly start to recharge the battery which will make it easier to start up all the other cars

  • why is this video showing all fucked up?

  • Awesome--one of the better commercials I've seen in a while (and not just because I'm a fan of Gary)...! Quite a funny & creative spot....

  • epic

  • This is BS, Any battery of the same size can do this! I say call MythBusters and have them do the test. Who you gonna call! MythBusters!

  • ok think of it this way. bulbs and horns don't really require to much energy. just sounds like alot of energy cuz its hooked up to so many cars. but think about honking your horn about..50 times in a row. with the lights on. and thats the same result you'll get. then try to start the car. yeah. it better start other wise you need a new batt

  • @kimchijeegeah2 If you noticed they had all the lights on, the car lights, the dashboards of the cars, the pianos and the horns. Now try and hold your horn on for that about a minute times 50, plus power up big ass lights like that. Not as easy as you thought. Could still be done with just about any car battery though.

  • cars charge there battery while there running -_-

  • epic just epic

  • You could start a car with a nine volt battery all it takes is a spark.

  • @XraklingX your right it onl does take a spark but do you think a 9 volt battery could turn the car over fast enough to start it? no there is no way it would even turn it over. i highly dought u could even use the 9 volt for even the ignition system seing as though the power being sent to each plug is enough to jump a 1 inch gap.

  • @XraklingX

...and the fuel pump and the starter motor to turn the crank thus opening the valves for the intake stroke...

    you are dumb

  • @XraklingX

put up a video doing it or GTFO

  • I JUST GOT IT! White cars are white keys, Black cars are Black keys! lol

  • C'mon man, 24 cars with SINGLE 1 BATTERY?Who would believe in this lol

  • @PavleVuletic r u joking or just stupid?

  • @PavleVuletic cars dont need that much battery

  • @PavleVuletic the batery has 30 amp hrs and all the equipment is just taking 28,7 amp hrs.

so it is going in the reality

by the way... LOL i hate fakts xD

  • IMO would be cooler with the popcorn butter song for it. I mean first popular song on keyboard, first popular song in car horns sort of thing.

  • This thread is full of angry make magazine subscirbers

  • wow that seems like a big waste of time

  • Poor visible strobe light in the beginning. It only wishes it were really lightning.

  • that is an awesome ad, is that for real all those cars off one battery

  • @jakmeoff1 Yes but theres a cheat all the cars start one by one, and the cars alternators assist the battery power the next cars start. 24 cars starting at once I think would be too much for a battery. But a nice advertisement anyway.

  • @adolthitler aaahhhh very true did not think of that, it would never start them all at once no way.

  • I'd like to see the MythBusters test this one. See if a single Diehard battery could do this.

  • @mikeycomputer a diehard batery holds about 30 amp hrs and ALL the equipment is taking 28.7 amp hrs including the cars

and by the way... i hate explaning things to people that they alredy shuld know. :(

  • @bbuubbi You didn't have to explain anything... I just wanted to see this being replicated on Mythbusters.

  • Kids wont know who he is or what this music is, they should look him up, he has some great tunes.

  • @AnalogX64 his name is garry

  • brian had sex

    with a really dumb girl

now hes taking his friend stewie

    to get some ice cream

    in his caaar

  • i like it.

  • lol you are crazy

  • when the fist car start , the batery is charging @ 13volt , the next car gonna start with the power of the batery + the power of the last car , the next car gonna start with the power of the batery and the power of the 2 last car ...

nothing special here , if the battery can start one car , you can start 100 other car if you want . (because the car are all plugged to the batery and they are charging it)

    nothing psecial here ...

  • @hitachi088 your right but to the avg joe it amazzing but to me and you we no better then that I think it cool but a little over the top

  • I'll buy that and power my house :) or maybe with two of them can power my town...maybe lol

  • @jorgevg123 hahaha i dont see why not :P

  • after the first car starts the battery gets charged ;)

  • @Strothy2 anyway, is not only that, the amps counts too, etc...

  • @davidp1311 yep it would mor impressive if they start all the cars at the same time :)

  • @Strothy2 well assuming that as well as connecting power to the engines, they also connected the electromagnetic coil that's around the axle back to the battery. it also takes time for the running engine to charge the battery back up.

  • @samrusoff but the running engines can take the power peak and keep the battery alive ;)

  • Thumbs up if make magazine sent u here :D

  • what? the cars didn't blow at the end??

  • i really dont see whats impressive about this. i mean yeah its cool but its not really any different than just starting you car 24 times after playing with the horn.

  • @FailedSquare The impressive part is that all the cars were sucking from the battery at the same time. starting your car after playing the horn is still one cars worth of energy

  • @FailedSquare Except when you start your car you get a recharge from the alternator. Each of the 24 times. And you're not powering the lights. )

  • @haledjian still this is not anything remarkable, and the alternator wont charge the battery when you only run the car for 2 seconds then shut it back off to restart 24 times in a row.

If they wanted to impress me they should have started 3 or 4 cars simultaneously.

  • they should make them all go toward him at end

  • That's sick.

  • Fucking gray bar, sucks!
