  • Karelin beat gardner in 1997

  • its like when Lennox lost to Rahman, Rahman was just lucky once!!! The main point in this video, Rulon was lucky by one point, but Rulon has no class and no name, nothing! And Karelin like MUhamed Alli, like Rocky Marciano, always will be remembered!!!

  • Karelin is a legend!!! 3 Olympic games in a row he won gold! Look at his record, his body! And check out this Rulon Gardner, just a fat, agly, lucky by one point?! Ask anyone in sport do you know Russian wrestler Karelin? Sure he was a legend! Ask, do you know who is Rulon Gardner? 99% will ask who is this?! and when you will tell, they will say: oh, that fat american lucky guy

  • I respect Rulon, but during the fight. I DID cheer for Karelin. But Rulon was the better wrestler in that battle.

  • I have a level of respect for both Karelin and Rulon.

Karelin built a name for himself, Rulon knocked him down a peg.

  • i cant believe this fat piece of shit beat karelin lucky 1 point

  • @itinkgirlzhot12 thats what I am talking about gardner was just lucky like Rahman against Lennox Lewis

  • Before us stands a true AMERICAN athlete in all his glory.

  • All you people complaining about his weight, you do know he was on the biggest loser, right?

  • Rulon ты LUSER

  • i think he ate the hall of fame

  • damn, talk about letting yourself go, i could never let myself go like that.

  • I think he could have had some success in MMA after he beat the Olympic Gold Medalist in Judo . He looks incredibly obese now like the boxer Butterbean .

  • LOL

Look at him he a 1127 times MCD humburger !

Look at Karelin at his 42 and you will understand

who is this usa PIG and who is Russian Karelin

  • Rulon Gardner is one of the most badass human-beings to ever live. Read about his life... amazing.

  • thats what happens when you grow up on the dairy farm and not the vegetable farm. god damn dairy makes us all fat and provides marginal calcium benefits, let alone the human body allegedly being unable to properly digest it. *carefully drinks milkshake*

  • someone i would much rather befriend than joke around or mess with...lol

  • He won an Olympic Gold and Bronze Medal and a World Championship, what does he need to prove to anyone ? Anyone on here who is disrespecting this guy ever accomplish 1/10th of that ? He has also been through some pretty intense personal issues. including a plane crash into a lake, being stranded on a snowmobile trip and having hypothermia / frostbite, the loss of a young child in a car crash and more.

  • Rulon Gardner looks exactly like all Americans looks after 25th B-day LOL

  • Sad to see that great athlet in this shape now. I´ll hope he´ll lose that fat soon and get back to a healthy lifestyle. He was an outstanding wrestler and he definately deserves respect.

  • After retiring from Greco Roman wrestling, Rulon Gardner took up Sumo :)

  • what happened to him,,soo fat...by the way KARELIN is a legend..

  • How is it even possible to be a fat wrestler?

  • @Thomasgipsy hes not a wrestler, hes retired many years now.Anyway several heavyweights carry quite a bit of fat in all combat sports.

  • @str8sushi what about his gold medals in the olympics and world championships and his bronze in the olympics? and the fact that he wasnt just mentioned with karelin he BEAT him. Yes karelin is amazing, one of my favourites but can everyone stop hating on Rulon for wanting to win? cause thats kinda the point of competing in the olympics haha

  • @TylerHarry2009 I don't hate him, just saying if both were in their primes and wrestled then...

  • Everyone is acting as if Karelin's lost has tarnished his legacy. We all lose sometime, whether it is recorded on camera or not, or whether it is official or not. What makes a legacy is not having an undefeated record, it is the work you put on the mat to make yourself the best person you can be. Kudos should be given to both wrestlers for the accomplishments they have, and we should tarnish their legacies because our egos are more feeble than theirs.

  • rulon got down to under 300 pounds before he left the biggest loser in april 2011.

  • i dont know why you guys hate on him. he just trained and wrestled who he had to wrestle. those of you who sit and watch and have accomplished nothing sit back and spew the hatred. lets see any of you do what he did in wrestling. nothing but a bunch of losers

  • @ChalkyIpod I agree 100%. People can call him fat, lazy, etc. but the facts are the facts - he is an OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST, and he beat the greatest Greco Roman wrestler the world has ever seen. He is a CHAMPION! Like everyone in life, he has his struggles - he lost his toe, gained a lot of weight, etc. He's just a regular guy who accomplished some amazing things in his life, and also had to face some difficult challenges as well. So why do people hate on him?

  • @mrkitanai1 I certainly don't hate him , just think how pathetic to let himself become this over weight when this can be a serious health risk .

  • @double42 Well, we all have our struggles in life - vices, addictions, etc. Some of the most successful people in the world struggle with alcohol and drug addiction. Others may be great business people - multimillionaires, but they don't take care of their family. Other people cheat on their spouses, etc. Rulon happens to struggle with his weight. I would not call it "pathetic".

  • @double42 you are officially an idiot, who knows what pressure the man was under to make him overeat and neglect to exercise.Anyone who ever won an olympic medal have strived harder and have more self discipline than 99 % of the population

  • @mrkitanai1 they hate him because of their latent insecurities and failures, or peer pressure because others are making fun of him (Rulon).

  • The only real accomplishment and epitaph of Rulons career is having his name pronounced in the same sentence as Karelin lol

  • Karelin was and is still is the # 1 worldwide champion in heavy wrestling.

Gardner is just a big clump of fat.......

Despite what this woman says in the ausiosystem.

So American, rewrite the fact´s so they suit them :(

  • Good luck on The Biggest Loser!

  • Alexandr Karelin would eat Rulon 4 breakfast!

    Those are the fact´s....

  • @voderick Are you basing that on when they faced off and Rulon beat him? Because that's what i would base my argument on.

  • @mikeygilz: Sorry man, but back then...... the referee beat Karelin, not Gardner! Rulon Gardner is a truly great wrestler. But he did not beat Karelin.

  • rulon needs a big hug and a wish for peace. i see sadness, and wish the best for you, my friend.

  • rulons my cuzin qwerdy565 so get outta hereeee

  • talk about the big guy

  • waut a second i think this guys on biggest losers.

  • That woman introducing him is pretty sexy.

  • The difference between Rulon and Fedor is that Fedor had not competed with the best fighters in the world since Pride was the biggest fighting circuit. Rulon beat the best grecco roman wrestler of all time. Fedor is overrated. Rulon wrestled smart and was the better wrestler.

  • @qwerdy565 Rulon who ?

    Muhammad Ali !

    Ernesto Hoost !

    Alexander Karelin !

    Fedor Emelianenko !

    Rulon who ?

  • @Kokainuser How are you attacking this qwerdy565 guy with that response? There is a consensus that Fedor hasn't faced the highest level of competition for years, which is why when he finally faced people who were at a higher level, he lost- and then he lost again. Not to put down Fedor, but Karelin is in a different class. Not only did he compete against the best throughout his streak, he also won. Every time. Rulon Gardner ended that streak. That deserves respect.

  • @qwerdy565 lol i see that you are realy stupid and 10 year old kid who know nothing, great ;)

  • I saw him during the calofornia state championship, My friend said hes his hero and he stood in a super long line to get his autograph, i just walked away.....man i regret it....

  • man hes huge!! when did he get so damn big!!??

  • Man hes put on alot of weight since retiring. Saw one of his mma fights in Pride Japan.

  • The three olympic gold medals was refering to Alexander Karelin of Russia. Rulon Gardner was able to defeat him, which was an accomplishment that nobody was able to do for thirteen years.

  • @Jspeed67 and only because of a mistake by Karelin, not so much a testament to Gardner's skill as a wrestler.

  • @rrhynes karelin hadnt lost in 13 years Rulon beat him fair and square and the only way you loose is by making a mistake

  • @rrhynes At that Level its not going to ever be one sided ass kicking ever. Anybody at that level had the skills to win a medal. The match comedown to who has the SKILL to not make that one mistake.

  • @scapolaris90 Perhaps,but he's a one hit wonder in comparison.

  • @rrhynes I know that not everyone really knows the intricacies of high level international competition in the greco roman arena, but just being able to "joust" and maintain good position versus someone like Karelin is testament to Gardner's skill. The point Gardner received was merely the natural product of an entire match where he maintained his own against Karelin.

  • @roywoodjr1 this is true. Regardless, his accomplishments are inconsequential in comparison. One gold medal does not a career make.

  • @rrhynes I guess will have to agreed to disagree. From a technical standpoint, what garnder did was amazing in that match.

  • @roywoodjr1 That's the thing about the Olympics. You only have to be good for a short period of time to be a hero.

  • @rrhynes that's what makes a hero, that short time...and that short time is harder to achieve than any other accomplishment...

  • @roywoodjr1 wasnt karelin like 40 at the time?

  • @WoWbob396 That's a good question. Make no mistake, I'm a big Karelin fan too. I admire how he really defined the par terre position in many ways. He just "owned" that part of the sport like no other has or probably will.

  • @WoWbob396 Actually this is something to remember in regards to really understanding exactly the heights that Karelin scaled in international competition. It's EXTREMELY rare for athletes getting on in the age category to continue to be competitive in wrestling due to the nature of the sport.

  • @roywoodjr1 I agree he had to have skill to get to the position of even wrestling Karelin but in no way did he win that gold medal. it was given to him on a technicality. Any wrestler that has followed the horrible rule changes over the past ten years knows why the clasp/clinch was put into effect and then removed. Not once did I see him get into an advantageous position.

  • @MrF4tty I don't think you have ever wrestled much Greco or a the highest levels. A good greco guy will chew up a technically flawed opponent and a superbly trained and technically sound wrestler like Gardner wins merely by denying Karelin access to the par terre position. You'd be suprised at the amount of training and technical expertise required just to keep a behemoth like Karelin from steamrolling you.

  • @roywoodjr1 I agree with alot of what you said and he is or should I say was a skilled athlete and his cardio was great but I do not feel like he was the winner because he out wrestled Karelin. He won on a technicality that is nolonger used because it was a flawed system. We have had our history of wrestlers on the U of M use this style and it is incredibly boring and I have a hard time discussing this with people outside of the sport. Slow matches = decline in interest = financial support

  • @MrF4tty I will put it this way: Karelin did nothing in his own right that would permit him to lay claim to victory in that match. In so many instances his attempts to force errors and improve his position were frustrated. Karelin is not like a Gabar who throws people around(on feet) to demonstrate mastery. Karelin forces mistakes that result in him achieving the par terre position. I guess I see the boring element but being a purist and someone who loves greco it doesn't bother me :)

  • @roywoodjr1 that was one of the best rebuttles I have ever read...Rulon Gardner won...simple.

  • @Jspeed67 yeah he made history that day, basicly what happened to fedor on saturday, a mistake fedor made, which fedor at the time was undefeated for 10 years, and werdum won by submission in the first round the biggest upset in mma history.

  • I love the look on Leroy Smith's face when she says, "three Olympic gold medals" You can tell he's like, "Ok, he won a Gold and a bronze....the third?"

  • Congratulations Big Guy! A hulk of a man and true champion.
