Went to the AT&T American Cup last year where they reunited the mag 7 and I recognized all of them before the meet when they were escorted in by security
They look totally different now. Amazing! And they still have what it takes. I will never forget my 1996 Atlanta road trip. Took forever to drive down there when I was living in MD at the time and at first I was thinking that this whole trip wasn't worth it...but after seeing all the events it made me realize that I wasn't there to see the Olympics...I was there to part of history and that made the trip all worthwhile.
It is hilarious how the Americans are self-convincing themselves that they deserved to win...at home :)...and never been able to repeat that "performance" again. I think it's in their genes to have a self delusional view of the world.
I love the fact that not only were these girls fantastic athletes and ambassadors to the US but they were like a United Nations group to make ALL Americans proud. Almost every race of Americans (Asian, African-American, Hispanic etc) were represented on that team and truly showed the spirit and racial tolerance and excellance of America! I don't think we have seen that cultural mix in gymnastics in recent times.
@duhhxxxiloveyou I think Samuelflower was just noting the obvious regardless of the "why" its still a true statement, they were the most racially diverse group of women than any other team, most of the teams nowadays are all white, nothing wrong with that just nice to see diversity when it comes as that is what the poster was commenting on.
I met Dominique Dawes and that woman is an inspiration. She's very articulate, very outgoing, and loves reaching out to people. Her motivational speech made me what I am now :)
@peaceluvcheer97 cool, she's matured into such a beautiful young woman, and a great mommy too :). Two little munchkins now, she sure has her hands full.

Dominique Dawes is STILL FINE AS HELL!!! But you can seriously tell that she's bowlegged when she's walkin in those heels on the football field in the Georgia Dome.

They don't care about the time it took to get that position until after results are won. Only those who trained under him and Marta can truly say what went on. I mean, Mary Lou doesn't seem to bash Bela, but then again she had a pretty successful career. Then there's Moceanu, who didn't get over her injuries in time for a second olympics.
@douceminey She's been very outspoken for the control they haver on USA Gymnastics selection comitee which has been very questionable since it has been discussed how tough they were with some former gymnasts like Emilia Eberle and Moceanu by not allowing them to eat properly, ignoring injuries, etc.
@douceminey I don't know when but Dom has accused both coaches of those things on several occasions. I'm guessing it happened around 95-96. Dom never runs out of things to say.
UPDATE: Jaycie is divorced now, Little Moceanu is getting bigger by the day and hates Bela and Marta, Kerri still sounds like a 7-year-old, Dom. D. has a great career helping people get motivated, Amanda and Shannon did a Cream of Wheat commercial, and Amy is a doctor at Stanford, I think it is.
Let's not forget that Jaycie is still in credit card debt from her gymnastics training, Dawes is now an intern for NBC in New York, Moceanu is now a mother of two and leading the crusade to kick the Karolyis out of the country, and Shannon is trying to kick start an acting career...maybe she'll do a Triscuit commercial next!
Just to be clear, it was well-known that Bela had animal nicknames for all of his gymnasts, and Dominique's was piggy. You can hear him call her that during the team finals in the 1996 Olympics. Dominique has said in several interviews that she feels she was given this name because the Karolyis thought she was eating too much at home. When her parents started restricting what she ate her team mates would sneak her food in plush animals and pillows during trips.
