I first bought this LP when it came out in 1958. I was happy to see it has been re-mastered and released as a CD. Bob Dorough is great on the three Langston Hughes poems as well as "Dog." There is some great talent on this recording.
@ChristineALSP My favorite cut on this disk is "The Dreamkeeper" by Langston Hughes. Your dad was great on the bass intro. His bass and Billy Bean's guitar really make this group great. I googled Jazz Canto, Vol. I and found the disk for sale on Amazon. EMI ended up with all the recordings from World Pacific label and they released the CD. If your dad is still alive, please tell him how much I appreciate his playing. I was 18 in 1958 when this came out and I still have the LP record.

This is cool, I wrote a piece in theory class in '69 using lyrics of a Ferlinghetti poem,
but it wasn't this hip; mine was kind of a Gregorian chant-ish. Love hearing Billy Bean!
in the 60's in Hermosa Beach just across from jazz club The Lightouse, was a
bookstore called The Insomniac, well known on the beat scene; I have fond memories as a kid hanging about both places, saw /heard many greats. tks
