Its amazing that this road has only had 3 vehicle accidents (had fatalities) on it during its history, one the guy was drunk, the other two they did not use low gear on the way down and the breaks failed
@aresorum Its now Subaru WRX STI, the Impreza refers to the base model(s) only, the performance version of the car is just WRX STI. Word is that the next generation of Impreza/WRX STI will actually be two completely different cars (i.e. different chassis).
Incidentally its STI now, not STi, Subaru swapped from lower to upper case for the "i" in 2007.
@uglyguitarman They do have clutches... but they use what is called a "dogbox" or "crashbox" style transmission. These transmissions have large straight cut gears with big teeth and no synchros. So yes, he is just crashing through the gears without use of the clutch.
@bacwerdsman ... i dont think you have your facts right :o crashbox is a transmition but not used in rally (or other sports) cars - crashbox was used in old cars, now is used in some heavy duty machines.
They are using sequential manual transmissions for selecting the gears in order with no direct access - its fast, it eliminates human errors and it uses a clutch, but the clutch is automaticaly engaged in the process: dogbox is not a transmition and its not even the right name - its dogclutch...
@chan625 Subaru can't come back to the WRC, none of the cars they make fit the new WRC regulations. Even if they did produce a 1.6 ltr engine, the rules say it has to be transverse mounted. All of Subaru's cars are longitudinal mount engines and transmissions.
Congrats higgins! Btw was that blue masking tape holding it up on the passanger side mirror?! I know we subie owners tend to us alot of zip-ties but geez masking tape?! Lol
I think he still has room to improve and can do that course in a faster time, so keep up the good work.

biggest achievement of a european pilot: driving up this mountain for example in a record time
biggest achievement of an american pilot: doing a burnout
americans make me sick lol, they suck at everything. who the hell makes a road with corners in the us anyway?

American drivers "gee it was a bit misty up the top of the mountain, could hardly see, really needed a co-driver"
David Higgins "What a gorgeous, clear day up the top!"

Is the vehicle model name Subaru WRX STi, as written above, or Subaru Impreza WRX STi? If it's the former, what's the differences between the two?

@bacwerdsman So the clutch is only used to go from standstill to motion, right?

@MegamanEXEv2 Yeah..I'd read about issues over regulation. But hey! Its a shame on FIA' part! :)

didn't travis pastrana beat the record last year?
tim3058 6 months ago
@tim3058 Not officially, and he had a co-driver. It was a glorified practice run.
MegamanEXEv2 6 months ago
@tim3058 read the description... Higgins also beat the unofficial record of 6:20.47 set by Travis Pastrana last year.
