The cops acted totaly in a fair way. The man resited arrest, he grew increasingly hostile. He lunged at the officer, regardless of being held down (he could break away, then you have an injured officer) so he was tased.

Subject threw up his hands and escalated the use of force, going from a passive resister to an active resister, at which time taser deployment is authorized. Subject should not have resisting. The guy that jumped the fence should have gotten a ride also.

*ahem* Maybe you better do a little more research on that claim dude. I just found a story of a 17-year-old kid that was killed when a taser discharged into his chest area caused his heart to beat so irregularly that it stopped the blood from pumping correctly. This was proven by an autopsy.

I've seen that story. The cause of death was listed as a myocardial infarction (a fancy name for a heart attack.) I doubt the taser was the real cause of death though, usually a person can take 5,000 volts, even directly to the heart, and still be ok, because tasers use practically no amperage (that's what actually kills you - not voltage.) The kid probably had underlying heart problems or something.
UPDATE - I've done the research, and most tasers use 3 milliamps of current (the stuff that will kill you), which is actually only half what's needed to kill. (It takes 6 milliamps to kill a healthy Human being.)

Those cases are extremely rare, though. And in this particular case, you have to agree that the use of a taser as a method of self-defense is far more preferable than either of the three other available options:
1) Try to fight the guy and probably get really hurt, since he's bigger.
2) Use your gun on the guy... I don't think I need to elaborate.
3) Let him keep breaking the law, which is not really an option.
Also, a taser is less likely to kill you than a fist fight.

I'm more educated than you are about it. I'm not a coroner but I have a lot of experience with the Taser. I've read QUITE a few reports about the Taser related deaths. Most of them are on drugs or have some other health problem that contributes to their death. The Taser only attacks the muscles, not the nervous system. They've tested it on people on EKGs and it doesn't change their heart rate.

Most heart attacks happen after strenuous activity. I believe a fight then being Tasered would qualify. I've been a police officer for 12 years so I do have experience in this. Let's just say that every one of the 197 "Taser deaths" were a direct result of the Taser. Considering there are almost 20000 uses, that's less than a 1% fatality rate. I would hardly say that that's conclusive evidence of the Taser killing people.

I never said that wrongful convictions are ok. This is not a perfect world and it's certainly not a perfect judicial system. 95% of the wrongful convictions are not the fault of the police. The cops acted totaly in a fair way. The man resited arrest, he grew increasingly hostile. He lunged at the officer, regardless of being held down (he could break away, then you have an injured officer) so he was tased.

I've seen that story. The cause of death was listed as a myocardial infarction (a fancy name for a heart attack.) I doubt the taser was the real cause of death though, usually a person can take 5,000 volts, even directly to the heart, and still be ok, because tasers use practically no amperage (that's what actually kills you - not voltage.) The kid probably had underlying heart problems or something.

UPDATE - I've done the research, and most tasers use 3 milliamps of current (the stuff that will kill you), which is actually only half what's needed to kill. (It takes 6 milliamps to kill a healthy Human being.)

Those cases are extremely rare, though. And in this particular case, you have to agree that the use of a taser as a method of self-defense is far more preferable than either of the three other available options:
1) Try to fight the guy and probably get really hurt, since he's bigger.
2) Use your gun on the guy... I don't think I need to elaborate.
3) Let him keep breaking the law, which is not really an option.
Also, a taser is less likely to kill you than a fist fight.

Wrong. There is not one case where a coroner has said that the Taser killed anyone. The Taser attacks the muscular system. You're reading too much ACLU propaganda. Go to the campaign against the Taser website. Every case they listed as a Taser related death ended by saying "the cause of death is unknown" or had something to do with the person's. health.

I'm more educated than you are about it. I'm not a coroner but I have a lot of experience with the Taser. I've read QUITE a few reports about the Taser related deaths. Most of them are on drugs or have some other health problem that contributes to their death. The Taser only attacks the muscles, not the nervous system. They've tested it on people on EKGs and it doesn't change their heart rate.

Most heart attacks happen after strenuous activity. I believe a fight then being Tasered would qualify. I've been a police officer for 12 years so I do have experience in this. Let's just say that every one of the 197 "Taser deaths" were a direct result of the Taser. Considering there are almost 20000 uses, that's less than a 1% fatality rate. I would hardly say that that's conclusive evidence of the Taser killing people.

I never said that wrongful convictions are ok. This is not a perfect world and it's certainly not a perfect judicial system. 95% of the wrongful convictions are not the fault of the police. They're b/c of the victims or witnesses. You still haven't shown me one case where the cause of death was from the Taser. There have also been quite a few cases where the families have ordered private autopsies and their doctor could not rule the Taser as the cause of death.

County Coroners are in "the click' with the City & County Police, Sheriff etc etc. Most coroners will hide the truth from the public to cover police screw ups. The coroners that won't become a TARGET for bad publicity by the corrupt. Last year Gallipolis, Ohio drunk trooper crash & killed 3 people, Coroner ruled drunk, State Police worked hard to OVERRULE (cover up) the coroners findings.

The state said that they were going to investigate why he was driving the cruiser and why the other dead trooper had marijuana in his system. The department released that.
