enjoyed listenening- good job. One thing I noticed is that in the chorus verse ("I got stripes..etc) the playing is different - especially the piece brought out by the electric guitar. It sounds like they're picking strings rather than playing chords in the chorus versus.
as far as i am concerned there is no "correct" chord version unless your are johnny and singing this song, even johnny did not use the same chords all the time,as he got older he had to change key or add a capo to suit his voice,i try to use the original chords at first when learning a song,if those chords dont fit my range then i play in a different or add a capo myself,so my advice would be to use whatever chords suit your range
not to belittle your comment but anyone could use any chords in any tuning they wanted to if the key fits their range...neil young is a master at tuning up or down
hey r&r...thanks for taking the time to check this out...i would suggest you try to find a cd called the the sun years ( there are a couple of different versions of this record)...these can be found on amazon...these records are the real cash with the tennesee two (luther perkins and marshall grant)before they had a drummer...those are the best records to cash songs from
firstly...dont use these chords as gospel...im using chords that are for my range...also you may notice i used a capo...anyhow the chords i used here are G and D7 for the first two verses and chorus...there is then a key change to the key of A after the second chorus...the chords used for that are A and E
Thats how you get good bro, I used to play so bad and sing like a cat people used to face palm when i got my guitar out, now they say "your talented."

Hey, did you tune down to Eb? That's the way this song was written.
WEIRDALROXMYSOX 4 years ago
nope...standard tuning
leafer6 4 years ago
Oh ok, this tune was written by John D. Loudermilk, I believe, and it was in Eb tuning and used WAY different chords.

don't worry about belittling my comment, i agree, just it sounds better with Eb.

cool; like the key changes.
you said you have all of Cash's releases; what Cash CD would you recommend?
