...this is really too impersonal, a very "audience-driven-orientated" type of playing, though not as bad as that other guy...Yundi needs to develop a personal relationship with the composer, he, after all, did win that competition in 2000...
@ahjenchang Interestingly there is another video "Yundi in Cambridge- Chopin Heroic Polonaise Op. 53" that is slower that this one. It seems slower is better, although the video quality is not good..
@brycew53 I, in a way agree as well, the octaves are played quite accuratley although, it isn't as 'crisp' as it should be.. He still is quite amazing, even though at times it lacks the emotional depth required. But it isn't entirely a disaster. And, I'm far from perfecting my playing. I get quite inspired by such people.
@brycew53 i agree as well to prefer vladimir horowitz's interpretation. i think he honestly tried to summon some emotions but was not capable of creating the feeling of the song. too mechanical but yundi is a great player anyway
@alexandros789 Hahaha... I'm so glad I differ with you! Although Horowitz and Michelangeli have each their unique strengths, I find that overall Yundi Li has left them behind, and he could be in line to fill the (hands) of Rubinstein as yardstick of Chopin playing.

Splended and full of life, for the otherwise soul-less and boring Chopin. First Chopin piano I actually wanted to finish listening. Wonderful.

*sigh* He needs a comeback... I just saw the Spring Festival Gala where he played a two-piano piece with Leehom... sad...

@rinsim I am a big Yundi Li's fan. But I agree with you, for this piece, I like Rafal's version a little bit more.

@Ernesto7608 it's your opinion, and I respect it. but I think NO ONE can be compared with michelangeli. I think he's the best ever,a pure genius.
alexandros789 4 months ago
This is great, obviously he's playing for a large audience which my guess is why you don't understand his "emotional depth" but to each his own.
