A cell can create a duplicate cell. This means one cell creates the molecules necessary for two cells. Where do the atoms necessary come from to create the molecules necessary to create a duplicate cell from nothing?
When the two daughter cells are left at the end. Do they have half the DNA and half the Chromosomes as when they first started out as the Mother Cell?
@Otisforme Only in a Gamete (sex cells, sperm & egg) will the cell have half the chromosomes as the mother cell through a process of meiosis. In mitosis the DNA replicates before the division leaving the two daughter cells with exactly the same amount of DNA.
And Chromosomes are the actual DNA. Before mitosis the long strands of DNA in the nucleus coil around a protein known as "histone" and form the chromosomes.
Normally, cytokinesis and nuclei separation (called karyokinesis) happen together. it is a fluid process so there arent absolutes. And of course, there are exceptions :)
Do chromosomes exist in the form of chromatin threads or what? Because in mitosis, (during telophase) if the chromosomes formed uncoil to form chromatin threads, then how can chromosomes be there???
How can it therefore be said that chromosomes, (in prophase) duplicate to form sister chromatids, if only chromatin exists in the first place? Or is it that the chromatin thickens up? Can any one explain?
This video is okay, if you want to leave out a lot of details. I only saw interpolar, and kinetochore microtubules in this. Where are the astral microtubules?
remember PMAT if you have trouble remembering the phases PMAT = Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase =) also interphase is a no brainer because inter is spelled like enter which is what it starts with... I~PMAT.
this helped alot...now if I can only remember each phase consecutively and the minute, detailed activities that occur in each corresponding phase and i'll be good to go!!
mitosis is homo

Hello,
Does Cytokenesis take place right AFTER the nuclei separate or WHILE both Nuclei are separating??
