Jeff is all Monster.... Saw him LIVE in Montreal back in 93' when I was 19.... it was HUGE... 15 minute solo that blew my mind and changed the way played drums forever.
@larkydozer Neil Peart is a great drummer and class act, but jazz is really fucking incredible music. Forget rock drummers for just a god damned minute, please. Agreed!
After a few listens, I have to agree there is an added beat. It is a very tricky little thing because they are all floating over that 5 so much there isn't anything to latch on to, but the whole band seems to do a little accent there which leads me to believe it was definately planned. Good debate though, tricky tricky.

Ok, I just listened! You're totally right, you've got big ears, I don't want you in the audience at my gigs please! Send me your address, I'll send you a bottle of Jack. BTW, Thanks for all the good vids on here.
nah it's right. They add a beat on the 9th bar of a chorus, going into Dm. Right at that little tea for two quote that Peter does. The cool thing is how seamless everything works. The soloist is always right. Yo hihat! We can make a bet if you want...I'll risk a bottle of jd
Hahaha!, Now I don't feel so confident! I think I'll contest victory at this point, as I have to go to work, but I'll be back to listen again, but you know what you're talking about, and definitely put in the time, and I haven't, so for now, you win. I gotta go, I'll listen again, but next time, when I'm more sure I won't LOSE, I'll take the bet on the jd. Later.
OOOK everybody chime in! It's right around 4.00! All you jazz professors & there are LOTS of us around I know! Let's hear a verdict. I may win me a bottle of jd here...;-)

Every time I hear Peter play I feel so inspired by what he doesn't play...elegant taste from this under sung master

Love the "Tea For Two" references Peter works into his solo! (at 2:05 & 4:00) A lyrical, swinging guitarist!

screamjyser 1 year ago
@screamjyser Zildjian's the brand. He's got some new K stuff but vintage K stuff for the most part

@screamjyser I know he uses Bill Stewarts 'Complex' ride. It's the cymbal to his far right in this awesome vid.

That guy should have taken Neil Peart's place at the Burning for Buddy event.

Can't tell you how many useless arguments I've had with Neil Peart fan boys,
where I criticize Neil's performance on the 1991 concert dvd.
The kids, they think attitude is a surrogate for competence.

Listen again!, it's the way he phrased his lick that makes it appear that he lost the time, but they all knew where the time was, 5/4 all the way.

Right on! Between 3:44 and 4:34 where they hit 1 together, they magically gain one beat.
That's what you get for doing this complicated Dave Brubeck stuff ! ;-)
